Guest
Finally got the codex and got a game in with the knight on my side. I have been very reluctant to acknowledge their place in 40k, but I admit, I was wrong and they have a place. Presently, I'm using a Gundam model for my imperial knight. Not sure I'm sticking to that model, but either way, my model needs work before being WYSIWYG as a knight. I ran a paladin with stock weapons (2-shot Battle Cannon and D Chainsword). I liked it, and will probably stick with that version. I'm running DA, so the Knight fills, or can fill, a lot of the gaps in my army (like our lack of AA, or our only having the Whirlwind for barrage options). So, questions regarding knights: First, how does vector strike work with the knight Ion field? Second, carapace weapons, are these worth it? Third, any other commonly failed to comprehend Q&A regarding new knight players...? Forth, how well do those power fist options work? InfestedKerrigan
1) Never experienced. 2) If you don't have AA from a different source. 3) I think FLG has some guest articles that cover the Knights pretty dang well. I'm trying to find them, but internet is being dumb. 4) I don't use them. Can't comment.
WestRider
IIRC, Vector Strike, Barrage, etc. use the Attacker's position to determine whether or not the Ion Shield matters. The use of Side AV is standing in for the general lack of a Top AV value, not actually meaning the Attack is coming from the side. The Carapace Weapons aren't great bargains, but they're not terrible, either. If you need more of the firepower they bring, they're reasonably priced. FYI, the Draft FAQ gives them a 90 degree Firing Arc. The Thunderstrike Gauntlet is generally terrible. It forces the Knight to Attack at I1, which is usually really bad against the kinds of things you need a Knight to take on in CC. It is very fun when it works, tho. Only really viable on the Gallant, where you can choose between the two CCWs depending on the situation.
AbusePuppy
First, how does vector strike work with the knight Ion field? Second, carapace weapons, are these worth it? Third, any other commonly failed to comprehend Q&A regarding new knight players...? Forth, how well do those power fist options work? 1. In ITC, an Ion Shield can never protect against Vector Strike because the Strike always hits nonspecific "side armor" whereas an Ion Shield protects either the left side or the right side specifically. The GW draft FAQ changes this (to use the final position of the model to determine which side you hit, I believe), but that is not currently being used by most tournaments. 2. Sometimes, it depends on your needs. The AP3 missiles are typically regarded as the best, followed by the skyfire gun,, with the barrage one being very rarely used. But, as noted, it depends a lot on what you need in your army. 4. It's awful. If it was a free swap then maybe you would sometimes want it, but paying points to lower your initiative is just pointless. You may consider trying out the Warden (minigun) over the Paladin. The Battle Cannon has its place, but that torrent of AP3 shots really does some brutal work most games.
InfestedKerrigan
Have you gotten to play with your Gundam?
Guest
Have you gotten to play with your Gundam? Only been playing like once per month. My buddy can't play this Oct, so I'm thinking I'll join the GG league for Oct. Or maybe I'll just start showing up at WoW. Either way, no, haven't put much thought into this guy. He works very well as is, without any real modification, so he's kinda boring to think about. I do need to finish the model.
Guest
I need to get back to this Project. Been in the GG league, but have yet to field the knight. Taking me a bit to get back in the swing of things. Faced Eldar 3times this month. Harlequins, craft world and Dark. Picked up the SM codex and added a very Small allied detachment of Sons of Orar (ultramarines). I took chronus in a proxied Hunter, which proved viable against DE skimmers.... Guest
Too many projects at once, but I finally decided on an image for the paladin's weapon. Was originally going for oversized bolter, then a double barreled shotgun, but I don't really want that long weapon look for the super heavy walker. I'm thinking I want a single handed pistol paired with a single handed chainsword on the super heavy. Won't really be a pistol in rules, but that's the look I want for the model. I also dislike the GW gun, since it has two shots and only one barrel. Basically, I want him to look like a giant, very mechanized, assault marine (without jump pack, though I might build an oversized power pack). I'm thinking I want it to look like this http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=177664 It's a German double barreled flare gun from WW2.
