  1. Damn, and they almost had the funding for the new Kickstarter. I'm not surprised though, they were very scatter brained developers that couldn't seem to focus on any one game. Even with great models, their rulesets were nothing spectacular, and their leadership seems pretty lacking.

Also, apparently its up to the buyer to get their money back from the credit cards companies (yeah right) if an order is unfulfilled.... talk about a kick in the ass as the door slams shut.

  2. Hey there,

Thanks for your interest! Our next game will be on the 12th at 6-10pm, and we meet every two weeks. We play at the round table in the Dungeon Foyer, so plenty of privacy and its pretty quiet.

Come on by and sit in on the game, I'd be happy to introduce you to the world, the mechanics, and of course the other players :)

  3. That sounds really fun! So far I have pretty "Normal armies" I guess (Empire and Beastmen), mostly made up of Warhammer Fantasy figs and such. I do have enough figs for an Orc Warband though I have to get them cleaned up and painted. Down the line I thought it would be cool to put together an Arab Fantasy list complete with an Ifrit Jinn (I have a LotR Balrog model), Ghulams, and Arab warriors, etc.

We should get a few games in, Im sure the Beastmen would love to fight some Grecian Infantry!

  4. No problem! Can't wait to see the Skaven next time we play!

I've been building s Saracen army for Lion Rampant and SAGA, but I think im going add some fantasy elements to transport them into Dragon Rampant, so you may see a Sinbad-esque warband soon!

  5. Yeah man, had a great time too!

My friend Jessie is holding a weekly "Clash of Swords" at Red Castle Games, and tomorrow is the first night (6pm-10pm). Its going to be a steady thing for Lion and Dragon Rampant, as well as SAGA players, and you are certainly welcome!

If not, i'm sure we can set up another game at GG sometime during the weekend!

  6. Hey All,

With the release of Dragon Rampant, im looking to get some players together for a few night games, or Saturday/Sunday afternoon games.

I'd like to build a small community of players if possible, and get regular games going. Post here if your interested, maybe we can get a meet and greet going.

If you haven't heard about DR, its a fantasy skirmish game put out by Osprey publishing that is the fantastical brother of Lion Rampant, their Historical Skirmish game. Use whatever miniatures you have to build your own warband. The game is quick, the rules concise, and its lots of fun!

  7. The Zvezda T72 it quite good (I own 3) but they are lacking in the top Dushka AA HMG mount on the top, though that should be easy to replace or rig up. Also, I think its the "B" 1990 version, basically its got upgraded reactive armor on it, so not sure what options will be available to the soviet players in the future, but its not the same model as in the starter.

  8. Sure, i'd like to dive in too! I'll certainly pick up the book which is a great buy! *Edit* I will be picking up the Soviet Starter boxed set. I played FoW extensively back east (russians and german armor) so it will be nice getting back into it. Do you mind if i possibly use some models from Old Glory, Skytrex, or plastic soldier company for support/infantry carriers and the like? Some people do, just figured i'd ask.

  9. Its always been a pricey game, and the models were almost always quite nice. The issue now is that you need so much more to actually play the game.

In the mid-90's, two tactical squads, 5 terminators, 5 scouts, 5 Assault marines, a razorback/rhino and a Captain used to be a nice sizeable force for an enjoyable game, now that's a mere pittance for what you need to play. When you go to a game shop and there are 8-12 vehicles on the board, or 200+ models on a 6x4" table, I think GW has done an excellent job of selling models to a player base that expects to drop a mortgage payment to play their game.

If you don't like the model prices, or the rules, or the player base (Or a combination thereof), don't play. I made that decision 5 years ago, couldn't be happier.

  10. Ohhhh boy, Chaos Daemons, the most hated list in all of 7th Edition, lol. My poor beastmen and empire are going to get smacked! I can't do the 29th as i will be attending GenCon that weekend, but I could do the 5th.

How many points would you like to play? I'd prefer to start smaller and work our way up.

Man, I miss this edition as well. I am not sure I still have the rulebook either.

I actually just picked up a used mini rulebook at Guardian for 10$.

  11. As i'm not satisfied with Age of Sigmar, and i didn't like where 8th edition took the rules and the universe, are their any players in the Portland area that would be interested in playing some 6th or 7th edition games and kicking it oldschool?

The more i see where GW is going (or has gone) the more i hanker for some of the older editions and that tactical gameplay. Best case scenario would be getting a group together for some friendly games, or maybe even a campaign. Im a professional fantasy cartographer by trade, so making a large oldschool campaign map to use would be alot of fun!

I have Empire and Beastmen armies, and i am usually in at Guardian Games (or Red Castle Games) Saturdays or Wednesdays.

  12. I am a little surprised as well. Figured Fantasy Flight or some such would be given it considering their success with the Star Wars License.

If this Halo Game is handled as just different ships using the firestorm rules, and with only a few factions, it makes some sense to license a relatively small project out to Spartan since the rules are established and need no development, and they have the infrastructure to manufacture, etc.

  13. The new starter box would be a great place to start! The Directorate work well, but they have a some complex tactics that they need to employ to be successful (Bio Hazard weapons, Cyberwarfare) that are a bit more advanced for beginning players. However that being said, they aren't too hard to play once you get settled into them.
