  1. I talked to my group this weekend, and there wasn't much of an interest in attending.  The group in Spokane is a bit belligerent and less than dependable when it comes to TacSol.  If there's not much interest, I probably won't put anything together.

If there is any interest, I will probably just organize an exhibition game, most likely in the form of a team battle.

  2. I call for Falise gap under historic conditions. Allied lists at 1700 points and gifted priority air. Axis with reluctant vets at 750 points and no air. Good luck.

I'm kind of partial to Bulge battles, myself...

  3. Your question is too ambiguous.

If you are playing Americans, your geographical direction is Northeast, to Berlin!

Touché.  I do play Americans.  The Damned Engineers, to be specific.

I suppose what I am asking is is there a specific theatre/book we are limited to and roughly how many points?

  4. I have two questions:

    1) My bread & butter list is the 291st Engineers from DC.  I love Bulge events.  Are there any plans to have a one-day mega battle or something along that line for those of us folks out of area to join in?  Or, possibly, do you have an online forum or such that folks from Eastern WA/N Idaho & the Lacey area can compete along with you during the campaign?

    2) Besides Tac Sol, is there any planning/brainstorming/buzz on trying to be more inclusive/competitive with the PNW?  I still need to make contact with the MT group, but would there be interest in an interstate convention/state-team competition?

  5. I made this one. Turn-out not great, but we made it work.

Fought a huge Market Garden/Battle of Overloon scenario.

    Over 6000 pts total.

    Great terrain.

Canadian and American decimated the Germans and the Allies kept the bridge over the Meuse.

Thanks to Corky, William and Chuck Hamack (NHMGS East contact) for making this happen.

I had a great time at Tac Sol.  I have more time now to prepare for next year.  I liked the scenario battle we played.  It was actually quite a bit of fun.  That in mind, I think for next year, I may prep two scenarios: a tournament event & a mega battle.  Turnout will determine which we do.  I think, mostly, it will depend on quickly the Tac Sol peeps decide that it's in their best interest to offer a one day pass...

  6. So it looks like I won't be able to make it to this next week.  I've had a couple of things come up for work and I'll be out in the Midwest next weekend.  Is there any way I can get a refund for my pre-registration?

I have no idea.  You'd have to contact the guys running Tactical Solutions and talk to them.  Their contact info should be on their site...

  7. Hey everyone~

I just talked to Mark, and he has made us a fantastic offer.  From Mark: "If you bring a friend that has never attended TS, you both get $10 off your membership making it $20 for a preregistration.  If you bring a friend, you both get in for $20."

This is a great deal, folks. So, go to http://startroop.wixsite.com/tacticalsolutions and make sure to preregister in pairs, to get in to the event for cheap.

That's all for now, folks.  Be sure to register with a friend, and shoot me a copy of  your army list.

  8. On another note, a couple of us have worked out a gaming system -- an uberwar, if you will -- for high points games (upwards of 4k or better).  It's a mutli-day event, but it can be done, and it's quite fun to play.  If anyone is interested in an exhibition -- East vs West, perhaps -- let me know, and I'll share what we've worked out...

  9. I can field 2k in Soviets or Canadians. By next fall I will have 2k in Germans.

However, a survey would be good.

Perhaps some cash-strapped gamers can only field less than 2000 pts of what they have or want to bring.

The other option is doubles with 2k on the team.  Maybe an option to "loan points" within the team, or some other wrinkle that has been successful in double tournaments.

If we go with 2000, several players, including myself, need to practice to get mission finished in 2-2.5 hours with that much stuff on the table.

I've played 2k points as doubles, and it seems to work well, so long as the team mates don't have the same type company.  It get's interesting.  The only time I've ever played the "loan points" system, is when we have multi-player teams, 3 to 5 players per side.  That gets really interesting.

As for solo play 2k, Moscow Front has run several tourneys at that level with 2:15 rounds and they seem to work really well.  You are right, though, it requires practice: knowing your list, understanding your list, and executing your list.

  10. My problem with 2000 pts is that there really isn't a constraint on your lists. You can bring everything and more. That being said I would still participate in a 2000 pts late war tournament.

There is, but there isn't.  It's a matter of combined arms and finding a list that works well together.  Relatively speaking, my engineers have a short TO, but it still took me four or five attempts to find a list that works.  I find it more difficult to play higher points games than lower points...  platoons must compliment each other.  If they don't, the fail list will fail.

I also won't play noobs at 2000k points.  They're too fresh, with too little of an understanding of game mechanics and war theory.  It's no fun playing such a game.  Who you're playing also depends on the point total.  I won't play a high points game against the Brits, and the Soviets....it depends on what they're bringing.

As for everything and more, you are right to an extent.  Playing a LW rifle company? Party on.  Playing a LW tank company?  Party on.  Playing a fortified company?  Well, that just sucks at any point level.  But, bring a special company (Ranger Bn, TD company, Eng Co) now it gets interesting, and 2k points aren't all that scary.

That kind of rambled, but eh...
