  1. Welcome to the "region".  There are people scattered about northern Oregon that play. There are quite a few that play in groups outside of games stores though too. For Portland stores, I have run tournaments at Guardian Games if that is your thing; there are players at Bridgetown Hobbies and Unplugged Games is trying to get a group. There are also a couple stores in Salem that do FoW. It seems like it is mostly mid-war and late-war but some have early war companies wanting to see some action.

There is a tournament at NHMGS Enfilade convention each year.

We also have a friendly team/store challenge type tournament between guys in Olympia and Portland with a trophy where best general gives up this CiC and it becomes part of the trophy.  If you don't have a "store/team" you can be drafted into an existing one. This happens in Sept/Oct each year.  Info on this will be posted on this forum in the coming months. It alternates location and this year is back in Olympia.

  2. As another data point.... Having painted hundreds of the OpenFire plastic figs for clients and thousands of metal figs from other blisters/box sets, I prefer the metal ones most of the time. The plastic handheld weapons seem to be more brittle and break easier when cutting from the sprue or during the cleaning stage; same for the mg42 and 34 that go with the half-tracks.  If there are mold lines I find they are a bit harder to get off with the knife then the metal with knife and file.

The detail on the plastic infantry is great though as Zeke says.  On the plastic vehicles, sometimes I find the larger flat spaces are a bit too smooth for my taste but nothing that rough primer can't fix.

  3. I wondered when one of the bigger model making companies would jump into the 1/56 scale arena.  There are all kinds of possibilites here.  Hopefully some modern stuff will be in the works also....

Giuliano Malservisi and Gian Piero Parmeggiani, the founders of Italeri, say, "Italeri is very proud to announce an agreement with Warlord Games, a wargames company that produces an amazing range of historical miniatures, and the right partner to develop a new line of plastic in 1:56 scale."

  5. Q. Why the huge discount?  Is Vietnam not popular?
Vietnam sold well beyond our best expectations. We were so excited the community took to it, and allowed us to take it from a small Wargames Illustrated supplement to a line of its own! We will continue to support Vietnam into the future with more supplements, models, and exciting ways to play. We wanted to offer an inexpensive way for people who may still be on the fence to jump into the fray, or for those already in the suck to bulk out their forces.
