  1. As a Necron player, I am excited for all the points drops we got.

Also as a Necron player, I am concerned that Tau and Admech, the two factions I struggle most against, also got substantial points drops.

On the other hand, expect an Anrakyr and like 30 Praetorians list at the next OFCC.

The way it reads to me, you can simply select them to fight a second time in each Fight Phase, whenever you would normally have the option to select a Unit to fight. Which is less awesome than Khorne Berzerkers, but better than the second time always being at the end of the Phase. Also, being able to fight twice is much better than just getting more Attacks, because you also get to Pile In and Consolidate twice, which opens up all kinds of shenanigans.

That's what I was getting too on the fighting twice, but they're still going to need to FAQ that to make it clear. And good point about getting to pile in and consolidate twice when it fights twice. As well as being better than simple additional attacks gameplay-wise, it also fits better with the cinematic aspect of the Engine tearing into enemy units like an unstoppable whirlwind.

  3. Well, Vessel of the Emperor's Will looks interesting. We'll have to see what the other Acts of Faith are. I agree that the 6+ FNP is underwhelming, though, and that the Penitent Engine needs clarification on exactly when it fights again. Does it fight like a normal unit and then you can select it to fight again after your opponent has selected a unit? How does that work with charges? Will the Engine fight twice before the unit it charged gets to fight, and can you interrupt it between those two fights? It's a terribly confusing ability.

Does it feel. to anyone else, that GW wants to phase out the non-ultramarine chapters for SM and the non-black legion chapters for CSM? Just seems kinda wierd to keep bolstering the already bolstered chapters/legions.

For the Ultramarines? Not particularly. For as long as I've played, Ultramarines have been front and center of the entire franchise, never mind the Space Marines as a faction. And while they are by far the most prevalent in the official content (campaign books, artwork, and that sort of thing), they are far less so in the Black Library, and even in the Codexes, it's still "Codex: Space Marines," and not "Codex: Ultramarines." Are they the most developed Chapter? Absolutely. I don't think that means GW is looking to phase out the other Chapters, however.

    Again, mini-marines aren't going anywhere.

An army doesn't have to be going anywhere to be going nowhere. This non-answer leaves open the possibility that while Normal Marines kits will continue to be produced, all the new stuff will go to the Primaris until one day they just don't get rules in the newest codex.

But not to end on a glum note,

You pay CP for specialist detachments - rather than in 7e, where formations were free.

Interesting. What's your take on this? Like rather than your Battalion giving you 5 CP, your Totally-Not-A-Decurion would give you -3 CP?

  6. I love the black marble effect on the face grille there. I can kinda see why they went with this kind of Titan rather than attempting to make the Imperator. Plus I approve the introduction of more weapon options for the Reaver.

Had they just made Tactical Marines, Devastator Marines, and Assault Marines into the new taller models, but otherwise left the army's organization alone, I think they'd be better liked.

Well put. That is exactly my problem with them. I love the models (Well, the infantry and the Dadnought. Aggressors are eh, Inceptors look like a dude in a baby carrier, and the Repulsor has just as much in common with an Ork Dakkawagon as it does with other Imperial vehicles), but there's no flexibility. Every unit has its assigned role and its one or two wargear options. There's no option to put a Hellblaster in an Intercessor squad. Not without Deathwatch, anyway. There's no lascannons, no heavy bolters, no special weapons, no transports or support vehicles. And no dedicated melee unit. No room to customize your character models, which is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. Until the Primaris line at least supports special weapons like a tactical squad or devestators and has a useful transport, I can't see myself bothering to pick up any Space Marines stuff.

GW has a very annoying practice of writing their rulesbooks in a “conversational” tone, which causes a great deal of ambiguity compared to a more “legalistic” tone.

Often important things are implied instead of explicitly stated, terminology for key game concepts changes from page to page instead of using defined key words, and so on and so forth.

I'm having trouble picturing what you're describing. Got any examples?

  9. "Working tirelessly around the clock, the Leak Department ensures that fans on the World Wide Web have a steady supply of grainy, out-of-focus shots of models, often models that haven't even been built yet!" Holds up the very same leaked sprue

Along with the Renegade Knights video and "Reset the Clock," this is probably one of my favorite PR videos they've released so far.
