  1. Only $5k for art and another $5k for manufacturing?

Hrmm... Not sure I entirely buy it.  I'm guessing that the cards are of bad stock.  I'd be wary.

I see your a game manufacturing expert!

Did you consider that this game is actually just under three decks of cards and some rules? There is no plastic pieces or game board that I can see. Which would significantly raise the cost. The fact is, you can create good quality custom cards for a pretty low cost. Since there is not much else to the game, it makes it really affordable. The MSRP is set at $25 which is about what most "all card" games go for (munchkin, etc) and the kickstarter price is a good deal forgoing retail mark up to raise the base capital. This is exactly how it should be done.

  2. Build them all approach? Yep. That sounds about right.

Pretty sure that I own 50  (Need to double check my sprues) and have 27 built (been trying 7x4 with hero). So I'll probably add a few to try the bus, se how it goes.

I think what makes me sad is that for 9 points a model (I think that's right, no book with me) you have a unit that can't really hold it's own with out magical support.

  3. Martial Prowess is nice, but it is trash on 5 wide spearmen. Not saying your wrong though. The problem I see with them as a "steadfast" unit is that they die like they are going out of style (and they probably are!). Even at 5 wide they can easily lose a couple ranks per turn unless they are facing something closer to their power... who will probably be trying to do the same thing... and probably for cheaper. I definitely need to try them out in a deep unit though... especially since it involves only building a few more of these crappy models vs HeroZero's "Build them all!!!!" approach.

  4. Silver Helms: They are the best choice, but also need some numbers to be really effective. Rubber lance syndrome is real.

Spearmen are awesome... If you bring 50 in a horde formation. One Wyssans wildform and you have a unit that's deadly. I recommend the Razor Standard if you are feeling frisky.

Lothern sea guard. 50 in a horde, with FC and a flame banner is ugly. It's a unit no one tangles with willingly. Yes its the entire core requirement in a single unit...

I love LSG... I love LSG in hordes. Just bring a support mage. My god a metal mage is good with LSG.

So what you are saying is... a 500 (or 600+ for LSG) point unit, backed by a 100+ point mage works. I can see the buffs doing them wonders. In my last game I had a mage with them, and the Ward granted by successful High Magic spells really helped them out... many lives were saved. Next if only I could have gotten some damage in.

I am not sure why you find Seaguard much better... I get that stand and shoot can get some important pre-fight kills, but it is a very significant cost increase to get them. Perhaps you could elaborate?

Unfortunately, I currently only own 8 Silver helms, which doesn't quite do it... Need to invest in some more but I just haven't gotten around to it. (plus I need to build the ones I do have (they sucked so terribly before I never brought myself to do it)).

  5. If you look at the detail of the slayer it is amazing, but I agree the leaping thing is not quite working, but being plastic it should be easy to fix.

That pose might look better at another angle, but in general leaping is not for me... the model, looks good but I am not sure it is any better than any previous slayers.

  6. So, I have not had much luck with these guys. They seem decent on paper, but they tend to mostly just lose combats and die. I find that the Sea guard option gets  too expensive too quickly, but maybe the duel role is the way to go?

It seems a Horde would be a really nifty unit, but when figuring that you need 5 ranks to get all your attacks you end up with 480 points for 50 with command... but then maybe it is worth it? I do suppose you have to fill core somehow.... though so far I have been too lazy to build that many more of these terrible models to find out.

Anyway, anyone find then useful? if so how do you field/use them?

Or should I just replace them with silverhems? (also which I have been too lazy to build)

  7. Beta rules seem solid enough and don't require too much updates.

The biggest problem with the beta rules is that they are changing by the week. It is really hard to keep up with changes and be sure you have the latest cards. On that now however they are near the final stages so there should not be too many issues. I would advise that if Beta models are allowed that we have a general "Sketchy rule" clause that states if anything seems really outrageous we play nice with each other. I doubt there would be an issue, but you know how these things are.

Also, anyone using the beta models really needs to download new cards that week.

  8. Doesn't have to op. Think of beerlifaux favors.

I caution to limit this to particular model types. Healing potions can be found, +1 ring, look back to d&d random items tables for inspiration.

Mysterious objective rules from 40k. Just keep all the random finds to end game maintence so games aren't slowed. You can also make scenarios so winners flip on one chart and losers flip on another. Or give + to winner on charts. They can flip at beginning of each following scenario.

I have been working up a mini campaign to try to get Malifaux moving around here again... I was considering using a Free "Stone" Upgrade as a item to be found in game. By "Stone" I mean the existing upgrade for each faction that is kinda worthless as an upgrade, but would be a cool Freebie.

Having some other things that were one use, or otherwise disposable would be pretty cool too. We could even make upgrade cards for them.

  9. I'd like to stay single master. Mostly due to the familiarity issues (you may not know master 2 as well, and a 3rd master might be even less well known). This could cause much slower games as players experiment and learn with stuff. Also, in my opinion single master fits the story line idea a bit better. Assuming that Walpurgis 4 continues with the story focus, it just makes more sense that a players story focus's on a main character.

Pool-wise, I would like to keep the pool just a model or two higher than the biggest game. If you can have too many optional models it detracts from planning a good crew in my opinion.

For upgrades, I'd kinda like some form of restriction (like a limited number in certain games). I think it could really add to diversity of play by not flat out allowing each build every time. Not sure if they should be in or out of the pool though.
