  1. Hey guys, the warhamsters are going to start a campaign for This is not a Test. I have been plugging away trying to get some models ready and decided i was going to play mutants. By playing mutants I was able to scour my bots box and cobble together most of my warband. Because this game is a skirmish game where players need less than 10 models I wanted to try a new basing technique and decided on the new GW texture paints. I used Agrellan earth. I like it so far but I wish the crackle effect was more prominent. I saw that you can buy crackle effect paint from craft stores and it looks like the crackle is larger and more consistent. One thing about the Agrellan earth is that you need to prime and base coat the base before applying the texture paint. If you do not the paint does not hold to the base and easily flakes off. I did not prime the bases and had to scrap them clean because they were basically useless.

Here are the first 3 finished models.

    first is Uncle Cletus

  2. Koyote and I got in a game yesterday to try out some of the rules. After the game I went and looked up if we did stuff wrong (of course we did, it was our first game) and found a couple of things.

When firing on burst with a weapon, if you jam on the first shot, you can use your second action to take one of the jams away instead of firing.

You can fire a gun when prone.

If you fail a graze test and are in cover, you move back three inches unless there is no cover to move in then you must go prone.

When flipping cards during the search phase, I think you flip them one at a time and choose to re-flip instead of flipping all of them and choosing which ones.

I think thats it for now.

  3. waylandgames mdf stuff is pretty cool for the price. There is a guy in our gaming club that bought a bunch of their stuff for Saga terrain and the buildings dont need any paint and look great.

I will also attest to worldsmith industries terrain. Jim does a good job of making fantasy friendly terrain. what I mean by that is a lot of stuff can be removed from the base to allow movement trays to sit on top. They also paint up pretty well.

If you are feeling especially gutsy you can get some Hirst Art molds and make your own terrain from plaster. I have made a bunch of things for Dark Tower up in bellingham with these molds and they look great and allow for maximum creativity. its kind of like building high quality terrain out of legos. These are expensive and time consuming though so thats the down side.

  4. I found a new podcast called Medieval Death Trip. The host focuses on a short episodes and stories from primary sources and gives some before and after context. Most of the stories that he explores are filled with oddities like saint stories, miracles, battles, and deaths of notables. I have been extremely enjoying this podcast and am about half way through it. The host has a great warm voice and is a creative writing prof. with a background in old English so he gives very insightful and critical commentary while throwing in plenty of pop culture references. I know my background in medieval history makes this more interesting for me, but he is a good enough podcaster that I think others could find enjoyment out of it.
