  1. The Allied lines look thin. Ripe for an Axis offensive. Perhaps we could move the Italians over by just saying they have switched sides?  I mean really ... so many of them surrendered ... in the face of combat ... whose to say that the Allies didn't put a force together of Allied friendly "volunteers"?. Or you could move the Fins ... they did fight the Russians and the Germans (though, only after they made peace with the Russians).

Anyways ... looking forward to the weekend.

Josef, (worthy opponent) perhaps this weekend you will get your chance to steal back that game I stole from your "Stugs" last year? If we get lucky ... and get to face each other.

  2. I have to drop out.  My Mom's 80th B-day is that day ... I thought it would be a dinner evening thing and it has morphed into an all day extravaganza. This will have been the third Tourney I have had to drop ... and it was looking to be a good one. I wish they had a crying emoticon .... sigh .... Sorry to all. Zeke thank you for making your FJ available ... sorry if I caused you extra work. Taran ... sorry if this weakens the Axis side. Mom comes 1st of course ... but I am truly bummed to miss this.

  3. I was wondering if there was interest in a FOW community bits get together … where we could trade/sell extra bits/unused Mini’s?  Over the years I have accumulated bits, small groups of infantry and quite a few vehicles (from individual tanks to units of tanks) and other vehicles that I either will not use or have never used and would not mind parting with for some more interesting bits or mini’s … or a little cash. I can’t be the only one who has stuff like this and maybe we could trade?  Those who don’t have much in the way of bits or extras could show up and see what cash deals they could get on anything that someone brought and was willing to deal on. My first thought is that we could do this on a Thursday night @ GG or perhaps after the Early War tourney?

    Anyone interested in this idea?

  4. Anyone planning on being at GG this Thursday (1/8)? I have to start tuning up for 1900 points of LW German fun? I have some Panzer Grenadiers (Lehr) unpainted and untested that are in need of some action. Or I can bring Angry Canadians (partially painted but also untested) ...

  5. I would say that you have "some" flexibility in that you have three platoons of infantry. Two to hold objectives and one to act as a ready reserve or go on the attack. Not all infantry company's have three core platoons. German's really struggle to fit three in due to cost. Having three, I see as an advantage. As for the universal carriers, I would put HMG's on them if you can, piat's IMHO are not very effective. HMG's allow your scouts to chew up light armored and unarmored vehicles, infantry (pinning them) and rear units like mortars and artillery can all be effected from range.

  6. Adfinem,

I like that you selected three core infantry platoons ... that gives you more flexibility and durability for your core force. The list looks good ... but here are my two cents. Just a small tweak, I would consider dropping the 6 pounders (since you have a full set of 17 pounders) in favor of a fast moving scout unit. Either armored cars or bren carriers. Scouts like these are very useful in allot of ways and the current scout rules make them a potent unit. Also, do your rocket launchers do smoke at all? That would be a good option to have when you are looking at artillery. Especially for an infantry company's to have some options to do smoke ... is always a plus.

  7. I would just add and encourage you to follow your interests ... if its Brit's mid war or German Italian theater / late war ... is your thing ... go for it. I would also encourage you go with an infantry force since IMHO infantry is central to the game. Once you have your base force you can start adding units as you gain experience. Then again you may be a "tread head" and want to go all armor. But my "two bits" would be start with infantry ... master that and you are way ahead of the curve. Good call to buy the base rules and get a better feel and then settle on a force / nation. The main rules have all the "Special" rules for each main nation and will give you a good idea of each ones flavor. Brit's are good and German. Russians infantry can be fun but a bit daunting for a starter force ... to collect and paint since they have platoons the size of most other forces companies.

  8. Yeah, I went today at lunch ... some FOW stuff left ... but mostly Russians ... and a few current books ... they have allot of older books. They had two FOW Corner houses over on the other side of the store where Mightyatom picked up his houses .... a few days ago anyways ... but they were gone today .... Doh!!! Did you get those Teran.Shannara? Stuff is moving fast ... I was in line and people were laying down hundreds of dollars. They are supposed to go till August 8th but I think they will be cleaned out well before that. It is sad ... regardless of some of the issues with Bridgetown .... they have been a fixture on Sandy forever .... Like watching an estate sale of someone you knew ... even though ... there I was ... in line waiting my turn to cash in.
