  1. On phone, so continung: They're best sern as "if I could drop another Tac squad of firepower down, is there somewhere it might make a difference" mixed with "is there a AP2-free tarpitting option" and a dash of "will some chainfists get to swing in another turn *and* make a difference"- the "a nearly dead DP/Tyrant/Thirster is slowly eating another big squad" Hail Mary.

There's nothing they are good at, is the.problem-except maybe being 2+ str 8 MC/vehicle/walker killers- and hammernators are better at it.

Else, Spartans rock. Mortis dreads ate cool. It's mainly a shooting game with mobility today, or a mobility with supporting shooting for maelstrom.

  2. On topic: Speeders are better for a.heavy bolter platform if needed. Plus, the additional heavy synergizes well with bike squads, the other option.

Personally, 10 man assault squads have too big a footprint these days except in a Skyhammer, and even then, combat squad!

Vs. Orks, insufficient attacks. Vs. Eldar, either overkill or blast bait- depends on the list.

Termies: Always had a soft spot, but with only a single heavy, limited mobility options, and only 5++- really hard to use. I've been using tactical termied more often than not for 15 years- last few editions, they are good at changing a local force concentration, full stop. As in, invest in a handfull of teleport homers, use them as a one time mobile reserve, they've won me plenty of games, sure- but not with any single use I can kust explain.

  3. So, hands ache too much for detail painting, which puts me on a modelling kick.

Taking my 10 man CSM bike squad and some magnets so it can become 2 5 man squads. First squad had two melta. What does everyone think for the second- melta or plasma?

  4. I imagine Spartan started that way. It's transitioning into it that's the problem.

Take my CSM. Raptors, bikes, rhinos, land raiders, terminators, independent characters, CSM, all four cults, etc. I'd need to re-buy one unit of everything to keep using things I already have!?

I could see them requiring you to scan a barcode, proving you purchased the unit recently, and then letting you download. Yet how many of us save our boxes?

The latter is the sickening part, because it makes it believable to me as "GW logic."

Mind, I can easily see them going to all-digital by-unit purchasing of rules, too- and given their overwhelming genius in the field of business, making it iPhone only. Or whatever the google knockoff is in China, and then being confused European and North American sales tank.

  5.

As for your AoS style rule reboot question - I remember being told to expect 40k codexes (codices?) to be a thing of the past within 2 years, and that the rules would be in the box for each model/unit, but there would still be a core ruleset which the in box rules would obviously add to.

This alone is horrifying and would kill the game by rendering all models already produced obsolete. This auto-invalidates all models people already have in their collections, and would be a nightmare to keep current with edition changes. Either there will be a master codex for existing units and this is what they'll do for new units, or all digital I could see, but no codices at all? That automatically screws over their vendors and their existing player base.

  6. My own Marines are the Filii Calthum. Ultramarine-style trims but two shades darker on a Crimson Fists blue. Made of Marines who were on Macragge but were from Calth; unable to reach Calth they mix ashes from its surface into their armor. Symbol is a red starburst; noted for their disregard of tactical rules in favor of aggressive actions when facing Chaos forces, to the point they attack other Imperial forces for the right of fighting in the vanguard. Fleet-based, normally operating in the region of the Maelstrom, their sudden abandonment of their normal patrol routes has left entire sectors vulnerable to Blackheart as the entire Chapter tears towards Cadia.

Means I'm stupidly aggressive and play against Chaos a lot, and can't stand white primer.

I also have Dark Angels, Iron Warriors, and Night Lords. Make yourself happy.

  7. So, question I had:

Demi-companies award a use of the Tactical doctrine. The Gladius formation allows sub-formation rules while adding its own.

So if I have 2 demi-companies in a battle company, do I have 1 Assault 2 Tactical 1 Devastator doctrine, or do I have 1 assault 3 Tactical 1 Devastator (that's one per demi-company). Each one, by the wording, affects _all_ demi-companies you purchase.

If so, Ultramines would get a whopping 2-4-2. That's . .vaguely obscene in my list.
