  1. Read the 2016 itc rules and they clearly allow very few fortifications... Boooo! Just when I was kind of excited about iron warriors my enthusiasm is curtailed. I always figured there were not alot of fortifications in itc due to points and battle forge force org requirements.

I know the 2017 season will be allowing two fortifications. I don't believe OFCC is using the ITC rules and FAQs this year, though.

  2. Just a note regarding lists. In my experience, the argument regarding 1500 or 1850pt lists having less fat is correct, but it also puts quite a strain on the weaker armies. I've noticed that the broken armies don't really become more broken at higher points, while I think the weak armies have better odds at higher points. Perhaps weaker armies are just better with more fat.

I think it depends a lot on the army in particular; some 1850 lists can pretty easily be trimmed down to 1500 without losing anything fundamental, whereas others have to completely re-evaluate how they are built. There isn't a universal standard of how armies scale because all armies are different.

See, I think we should have one of these events during the night, like 10pm-6am, rather than during in the day. Would be cooler anyway, since we always do them in summer. Then you could go for vacation or do whatever during, then play 40k. No wasted time.

As someone who works graveyards anyways, I would love this. However, I don't imagine that you would easily be able to gather enough folks to make it worth anyone's while.

  3. Yes, you give up Battle Focus, Ancient Doom, and Power From Pain in order to get the new Power From Death abilities.

However, since it is available to units that don't have or can't use those abilities (like Wraithknights, Windriders, etc) the loss is fairly trivial in most cases and significantly empowers a lot o Eldar strategies. We'll see exactly how strong it ends up being in play, but I can see some very simple ways to essentially just get double use out of units with it- and Eldar shooting was already strong.

  4. While I can certainly appreciate higher point levels in a casual event (because it lets players bring more of their cool toys), it definitely puts a lot of strain on players to finish in a timely fashion and I think that can work against the goals of OFCC, namely to have exciting and interesting matches for all involved. A lot of the best stories come out of the final turns of the game ("And I would've won, except that his one guardsman assaults Calgar on the objective and kills him!") and if you never get to that point, any potential for that drama is lost. Similarly, players that are having to hurry in order to have a reasonable chance at getting to the "proper" end of a match will not have as much time to joke, socialize, etc, with each other.

For those reasons, I would like to see the event come down somewhat in points and/or increase the time allotted per match. I don't think anything less than three hours for a 2K game is plausible, and likely more than that (3:15 or 3:30 seems more like what a casual game should need.) As I don't think most players are willing/able to commit that much time in a single day to the event, I believe dropping down in points is the appropriate solution.

  5. Is there still a range restriction (7/14")? Or is it table wide?

The rule doesn't say anything about having a range restriction, although it only works when one of your units triggers their Soulbursts (so you would need to be within 7" initially to get it.) It does self-limit to the units in the formation, however, so it's entirely up in the air what those might be- no one is going to be terrified of a second round of shooting from Storm Guardians and Swooping Hawks, for example.

  6. If you want to shut down enemy psykers as hard as possible, a Culexus Assassin or Sisters of Silence are your pick.

If you want to bring psychic defense while getting some very useful powers, a Librarian (and/or Librarius Conclave) is what you want due to the psychic hood.

If you just want cheap and dirty psykers to add dice to your pool and get some powers in the bargain, Primaris Psykers (in-faction) or the various Inquisitorial psykers (in a henchmen squad, as an upgrade on an Inquisitor) are both excellent.

  7. Huh, weird, it must be temporarily out of print or something. The Renegades and Heretics are in both IA13 and the updated version of IA4, but the two lists are subtlely different and each book has a lot of other unique content of its own, so they don't overlap as much as you might think.

I have a copy of IA13 that I'd probably be willing to let go for a reasonable price; PM and we if you're interested/

  8. First rule, Soulbound Vanguard:

"While a unit from this formation is joined by ~Name~ or ~Name~, add 1 to the Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill(?) characteristics of the models in that unit. This benefit(?) does not increase the characteristics of ~Name~ or ~Name~."

    Second Rule:

"While a unit from this formation is within (one-digit distance) from another unit from this formation, they have the Furious Charge special rule."

    Third rule:

"Units from this formation can make a ~Name of Special rule~ (page reference) if they are within (two-digit distance) of a unit that is destroyed, rather than (one-digit distance)."

So that tells us there is some new Eldar rule related to units dying (probably Eldar units, but possibly others as well)- which would fit with the Ynnead theme that is being pushed. I can't quite make out the rules in the second page, though, they're too blurry.

  9. Master of Ambush is a fantastic trait in the general sense; I don;t think your list is optimized for it, but it certainly can make decent use of it with the Doms.

I think keeping Coteaz's unit relatively cheap is a good plan. Servitors don't get Multimeltas for free in IA, do they? A trio of them was always my go-to, since they smash Drop Pods and Dreadnoughts and whatnot while still being a reasonable threat to other units as well.

I hadn't noticed the Jokaero change; it's interesting, but I think ultimately not worth the investment with how awkward it is to build the "full" warband in IA. Might be useful for more casual lists, though.

Do you find the Rets to be particularly helpful? Heavy Flamers are nice guns and all, but I'm not sure how much utility they'll give you when they can't have a Drop Pod.

Do you have any Dev Centurions? They're a really good "solution" sort of unit, and right now I see your list struggling a lot with a GC of just about any kind- a Wraithknight or Stormsurge could give you serious problems.
