  1. I agree with Krieger...for example I think my score was torpedoed by two things: I think I was given low sports scores because my opponents didn't like losing, I joked with people, told stories, and I am very lenient on what opponents do (i.e forgetting to move or shoot etc).  I played Chaos Dwarves, so I ran only 3 war machines all different (not double magma cannons), no lore of hashut, and no bull centaur character.  My book is limited in what I can take.... dwarves and more dwarves (yes I even took some hobgoblins).  Second is paint, I know that everyone likes bright, smooth blended armies that snap the eye, but that is not what CD are.  I would be interested to see my complete paint score and whether the judges are experienced enough to recognize that the armor on my dwarves has no less than 3 different tones and 4 weathering pigments (7 steps).  Yes they look dirty, it's intentional.  Appears to be alot of subjective-ness in final standings....

All that being said....in the end I had a blast, met some great people and got to roll lots of dice! That's a win! and the OFCC crew were friendly, and professional.

The painting piece of your post is difficult. I will freely admit since I am slightly color blind any dark army that doesn't have shiny bits will not catch my attention. I feel particularly bad for skaven armies as no matter how well they greys are done it just looks like one big grey blob to me.

  2. I don't know how close it actually was or if points mattered but I feel privileged that my slann contributed to your win by entering a combat against 13 silver helms with 21 temple guard and a flank charge of 35 saurus warriors with a scar vet.

The slann felt bad for Greysons high elves so blew up 9 temple guard on a two dice ice shard blizzard miscast then promptly got kicked in the face next turn by a horse and died. Ahh the big toad, always does so well :).

  3. Finish Bastildon (i didn't paint him and it so well painted that it looks almost out of place in my army but I at least get to do the howdah and pretend  )

5 Temple Guard and full command

    Skink with a banner

    3 Kroxigor

    Movement Trays

    Display Board

My biggest issue right now is do i spend the time trying to get the 3d printer to work again and make some filler or do i just paint the models.

  4. Myster2: I hate to be THAT guy but... I am. Your list is illegal. The BSB cannot combine magic armour and magic standard only a slann can do that.

Whoops that was an old copy and paste. Our captain already pointed that one out and i updated it. For now just ignore the banner.

  5. Here is mine. Should be fun, it looks nice on the table (or will be when i finish painting everything very soon!).

  6. In all honesty if the released a pink pony as a model heck yea i would buy it.

No, Forge World is to busy with 30k for that now.

Last I heard they pushed the date back due to "issues". (In other words GW is having a normal day with releasing its 40K stuff with no set backs. #cough#)

Honestly GW and FW just need to be real and rename their companies 40k whore mongers. They realized they can slap "40k" on a pink pony and players will buy out the release just to keep up with the Joneses.

  7. That is pretty much the exact list I had in mind before I traded you those Stegs, lol. I have more Carnisaurs in my list though and no Slaan. Two Bastiladons as well. Man, I love monster mash lists!

I am really debating the slann. The only reason i am thinking of bringing him is to get monsters forward more quickly with walk between worlds and setup some interesting spell combinations or try and slow war machines down. I'm not sure I can justify the points cost.

  8. So I may not get my first army done in time so I may have to fall back to my lizardmen. Is anyone opposed to a monster heavy list?

I was thinking of something like

    Scarvet/Carnosaur

    2 stegs

    2 ancient stegs

    bastilidon

Then for core it would be a few Skrox units.

For magic i would either try and fit a slann with wandering deliberations or another steg with engine of the gods.

    What do you guys think?

  9. Trouble is that I have no idea what you (or the ratings committee) thinks is a WAAC list. If there were example lists posted for each army that had received a '3' rating then we might have some idea, but as it stands many of us here are shooting in the dark.

Moreover, I have extreme issues with conflating a "fluff list" with something that isn't "WAAC." A big block of witch elves with the cauldron, paired with a big block of executioners and dark riders, is a "fluffy Khainite list." It's also hard as coffin nails. Mono nurgle demons or warriors is a "fluff list," but is hard as nails. An all-mounted Empire army is a fluff list, but it hits like a ton of bricks.

Some armies don't even really HAVE "fluff" choices. What does a "fluffy" VC list look like? A fluffy TK list? Does that just mean taking [big bad swear word]ty choices? Does a giant in a WoC netlist make it fluffy? I really have no idea.

The pass-fail system makes that fair, in that people with no past experience with the event and the kind of lists people bring aren't getting essentially arbitrarily penalized. We're told if our lists are too hard, and that's that.

This is my second OFCC. Last year I created a few lists and submitted them to our team captain who has played in OFCC quite often, he helped me tailor my list down to what he felt would be an acceptable level. My understanding is that since OFCC is an invitational event their should be someone who has been there before that can help you tailor your list down if it's too strong. If you do not have that, post it on the forums here and let people weight in on it.

(Extra rant feel free to skip)

Also, and this is just my opinion, if a person is consumed with the idea of winning games or only playing matches they feel are "fair" then OFCC may not be the correct place for them. Last year I played on a board that had a huge lake in the middle, i played lizardmen magic heavy army so i had a big advantage from the start. My opponent and I just laughed and played the game out and enjoyed the environment and talking about the armies and strategies.

The very next game we played random deployment and 80% of my army was stuck on the far right side of the board and the slann and his poor cohorts were stuck on the far left side of the board staring at a bunch of skull crushers. Again my opponent and I both thought it was humorous and we had a good time discussing basing strategies as he had a really great looking army.

Neither game was "fair" and neither my opponents or I cared in the slightest, we just enjoyed playing and talking and checking out all the really well done armies.

  10. Question, will the captains, that includes me, be held responsible if players bring lists not in spirit with the event?

Yes, the OFCC committee will bar anyone that brings a cheesy list and thier captain from any alcoholic beverage for the entire weekend. You have been warned.
