  1. GG a.k.a. Guardian Games, in Portland, OR. Standing event is Thursday evenings, 6-10, @ GG. If you want to stop by in that time slot, we can take a break to talk to you. I can bring my Blitzkrieg book and show you the EW Polish Army in Fow If Thursday does not work for you, I was considering adding a secont event @ GG on Saturdays, perhaps 2 saturdays a month. GG has of most the books in stock, and many Polish army bits. I have FoW (Flames of War) 15mm Early War (EW) Soviet/Russian. I also have unparted stuff for an EW German Army. These are the FoW books that cover EW Polish: FW301 Blitzkrieg - Battlefront FW003M FOW 3rd Edition Rulebook - Pocket Edition FW226 Know Your Enemy: Early War 2013 Edition Contains complete Early War Arsenals, Warriors, and National rules for: German, Italian, Japanese, British, French, Finnish, Soviet, Polish, Greek, Dutch and Norwegian forces, with Airborne Assault Rules, Raiding Rules and Raiding Missions. One person's onpinion on building a FoW EW Polish Force: http://www.wwpd.net/2012/10/on-pole-building-polish-army-part-one.html http://www.wwpd.net/2012/10/on-pole-building-polish-army-part-two.html http://www.wwpd.net/2014/03/on-pole-building-polish-army-part-three.html
  2. Nothing can make me want to be in the Army again. Good one time round, but reruns just not the same as the original.
  3. more temptation Over at breakthroughassault, they have a teaser for "Cold War Gone Hot" Flames of War World War III - Team Yankee http://www.breakthroughassault.co.uk/2015/07/flames-of-war-world-war-iii-team-yankee.html
  4. RE: ...complicate things? One man's "compication" is 'nother man's "preparedness" I like the idea of "Know your Enemy", but the original book is out of date. Even if I had this edition, it too, is now out-of-date: FW221 Know Your Enemy - Late War - 2012 Edition http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=1730 978-0987660930 http://www.amazon.com/Know-Your-Enemy-Late-Flames/dp/0987660934 At least 5 of the LW books came out AFTER this KYE edition.
  5. Battlefront lists 1900 points as the recommended size for late war in the 2014 - 2015 Tournament Season. Flames Of War Events Worldwide Points Totals For The 2014 - 2015 Tournament Season The official points totals for the 2014 - 2015 North American tournament season have now been decided and are as follows: http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=57 Period Points Early-war 1390 points Mid-war 1710 points Late-war 1900 points That being said, we don't have to use 1900... If we are NOT qualifying anyone for the Nationals (see below), then we can set the size at any number of points that we can agree upon. Upcoming Flames Of War Events in North America http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=1984 Dates Event Period Points To Be Confirmed West Coast Nationals Late-war 1900 points As for late war books, there are currently 15: PAIRED LW HANDBOOKS ################### FW112 Market Garden (Allies) - February 2013 FW113 Bridge by Bridge (Axis) - June 2014 FW114 Atlantik Wall (Axis) - 2013 FW115 Overlord (Allies) - 2013 FW116 Grey Wolf (Revised Edition) (Axis) - 2013 FW117 Red Bear (Revised Edition) (Allies) - 2013 FW118 Fortress Italy (Axis) - March 2014 FW119 Road To Rome (Allies) - February 2014 UN-PAIRED LW HANDBOOKS ################### FW232 Berlin (Both) - June 2015 FW220 Blood, Guts & Glory (Both) - April 2012 FW222 Devil's Charge (Both) - July 2012 FW223 Nuts! If we make the tournament this broad, then I recommend that each gamer extract the special rules that apply to their force, and have a copy of those special rules available for their opponent.
  6. Some of the FoW players have been kicking around the topic of the next FoW tournament. Any thoughts?

  8. BigJohn, If you want to test run some units before committing to your first army, we are having a battle in our Firestorm: Overlord campaign on Thursday, between 6:30 and 9:30 at GG. We can coach or you can observe, whichever is your pleasure.
  9. Please move your forces over the Orne River bridges. Air interdiction is such a warm way to reach out and touch someone.
  10. I will be there at about 11 or 11:15 today.
  11. Tanks easier to paint than infantry. Less variation in weapon and troop time is quicker to learn. Germans prob best choice for 1st army. Can fight on any front. If u like Africa, We have 2-3 other players who have north Africa forces.
  12. Re: SAT - yes. I can be at GG at either 11 or 12. RE: Not yet. Bellingham Firestorm team: -- generalripphook, JMGraham -- have you selected any battles you want to do?
  13. Naw, rule book does not have units nor equipment stats. My advice is look through the free stuff online, and see if that interests you. Here are some examples: Official Flames Of War Intelligence Briefings, Late-war, 1944-45 www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=108 This has the most free stuff. For now, just focus on "Official Briefings" Many of the unit briefings have moved to these two books: Atlantik Wall. Overlord BTW, we are using those same books in our campaign. Official Flames Of War Intelligence Briefings, Mid-war, 1942-43 http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=108&art_id=879 Some interesting stuff, but not as much as LW (Late War) If you want to look at more details, here are 2 LW Eastern Front German Briefings: Kampfgruppe Kästner, Korsun PocketArticle with downloadable pdf: http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=1082 http://www.flamesofwar.com/Portals/0/Documents/Briefings/Kampfgruppe-Kastner.pdf Infantry with armor and fire support. Confident Veteran is a pretty good rating Panzer Brigades on the Eastern FrontPanthers and Armored Panzergrenadiers Article with downloadable pdf: http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3375 MW, North Africa and Tigers: Tunisian Tigers Article with downloadable pdf: http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=53&art_id=1629 MW, British In Africa,Tunisia & Italy: Mid-war Intelligence Briefing for British and Commonwealth Forces http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=4003 One Mid-War pdf briefing for each region: 1) North Africa (Egypt & Libya), 2) Tunisia, and 3) Italy The benefit of this set is that many of the tanks, guns and infantry teams are re-usable in LW (Late War).
  14. As for books: Just start with one: The new rule book - Flames of War 3rd Edition Mini Rulebook, a.k.a "Pocket Edition" paperback, $10.00 If you take it to Kinko's, you can change it to spiral bound, so that it lays flat on a table/game board. It is not an abridged version of the larger rulebook. It is the complete rulebook. It is EXACTLY the same content as the big hardbound rule book, same paging and everything, just printed smaller.
  15. Adding to lazarus' comments: You could start with something that you find inspiring, fascinating, or for which you have a connection. 17. panzerkyle, Sorry about your situation. Been there several times. Know that getting new job can be a full-time drag on your time and energy. Let me know if there is anything I can do. If you want to meet for coffee, I can offer some job-searching tips. Look forward to seeing you again when cash flow is reliable and you have the time and energy to jump back in.
  18. Panzerkyle, At our next battle, let's exchange e-mail addresses and we can discuss tactics and strategy, outside the range of German Signals reconnaissance (Nachrichtenaufklarung).

  21. Monty still has more colonials to throw into the fray. See battle 5, and the units on JUNO. Just hang around on the beach a little longer. We can pile the cruiser NGFS on top of the the Destroyer and Typhoon fire to bury your tanks in the sand. Armor save doesn't help when your tank is stuck in a deep shell hole.
  22. We have 9 battles in Turn 2. Battle #4 already fought on Saturday, 11 July. I will post the full battle report on Tuesday. Pics of the updated campaign map to be posted on Tue. 23. German Won 6 to 1. Brits and Canadians are checking our National rules. I suspect we are not using everything that we have available. Sorry about the delay getting pics and battles posted. Worked most of yesterday - Sunday. Will catch up this evening.
  24. Battles on the beach, after D-Day, quoted from the Firestorm Overlord document: Page 8, Section "Invading a Beach" Note that once gained the Allies cannot lose a Beach Sector once it has been gained (they only surrender VP and risk destruction of supplies and Mulberry harbours), so that this can only be a result of a loss prior to the commencement of the campaign. Page 14, Section "Battles on the Beach" If a German player wins an attack on an Allied landing beach, they gain 10 VPs, and every supply point and Firestorm unit on the beach must be tested for destruction. Eg if the German wins by 2 points, and there are 3 Supply Points and 2 Firestorm units that were not committed to this particular action, then they are each tested for destruction on a 6+ (NB this includes FS units that may be involved in other battles on the beach) If there is a Mulberry Harbour on the beach, this is treated as an additional Firestorm unit that may be destroyed. If it is destroyed it is permanently lost (no VP impact).
