  1. Who wants to play all fighty Dwarfs?

Quite possibly me! Finally have a free weekend.

I still don't get the scenario. My list is not in the slightest bit deathstar-y or horde, and I only have a total of 9 units and characters. There seems to be no inducement to bring more 'fortitude' and a lot of inducement to bring less.

I'd say something more useful would be 'once a player gets below 5 Fortitude, they lose' (exact number up to debate but that's the idea).

  2. Great idea.  The only problem is that I have no skill with green stuff or that type of conversion.  I am most likely going to be looking for someone to comission.

Hmmm - if you find a good model and have some bits (shields and symbolism, maybe a pilot from the gyro kit) it wouldn't be too hard...

Email me and we'll go through models. I don't have a good handle on how large the warjacks are but a quick check shows that there are some good candidates for a 50x75 giant base.

  3. I challenge you to run zero of the following

    Warmachines

    Hammerers

    Gyro/bomber

    Bet you can't.

"Can" and "will" are two different things :)

The amount of shooting in your rough list is fine, I'm sure. As for an Iron Golem, perhaps a modified Warjack or Colossal from Warmachine as a base?

  4. Keep in mind that you combat reform after you decide who wins and make break checks, so it'll be next turn before your turn to the rear will take effect.

Also, there's good reasons to do this when NOT trying to lose, too - if you wiped out nearly everything but they hold and you are threatened with a countercharge to the rear or flank, so you turn your flank or rear to the less dangerous unit so that your front will face the more serious threat.

  5. My second year running games - I have two Fiasco sessions and I'm running DREAD on the giant Jenga set! Can't wait.

Not sure what else I'll do; probably try to rope as many people into games of Netrunner as possible and see what other board games I can try out.

    Anyone else?

  6. Hoping I can make these. I made a 1500 all-swiftsride, all-Slaanesh, no magic list. It'll either be epic, or terrible. Or terribly epic!

I need a second Chaos Lord/Exalted on a chaos steed though. I have one with a swapable banner and a mage on steed, but I'd need a bsb and a chaos lord for the list. I have the magnetized guys that go on my dragon and manticore, but I think they are too wide to fit on a horse, especially the Chaos Knight ones which struggle to rank up anyway...

  7. Yea - the scroll saved your Cold One Knights from an armor-melting death. That, and me being unable to roll more than like 5 dice to your 4 ;) Yea, dark riders don't like impact hits or high armor or long charges (to be fair, I got pretty lucky on a decently long charge into the first unit with both chariots).

Hopefully we'll be up for the 1500+ spring league, at least once in a while.

  8. Sounds like fun!

A blind tasting means that you don't know which sample is which. A double blind tasting means that you don't know, and your wife doesn't know - the intent with double-blind studies (in general) is usually to prevent bias from being introduced by the experimenters knowing whether they are working with the experimental group or the control group. In your case, it'd be to make sure your wife isn't giving you cues by placement or reaction as to which she or you expect will be the 'best' whiskey.

Also, Scotch tastes like socks. Bourbon FTW!

  9. Thanks again everyone for all the help. I really appreciate it. It sounds like Dark Elves, High Elves, VC and maybe Tomb Kings should be on my list of considerations. Anyone know anything about building an army around the Sisters of Avelorn? My daughter would be stoked if I did a mostly female army? The Witches in the DE army look good to dad but I don't think bondage looking chicks are good for the kiddo :). Of those 4 what's the ranking for new player ease and competitiveness? The new player part is the more pressing issue for me but it would suck to spend all my time loosing.

High elves play in all 4 phases - they all move well and have flyers and cavalry. They have some of the strongest magic and can get any of the 8 base lores + their own High Magic lore. The have good (light) shooting. Elite units fight well, both cavalry and infantry. They have monsters and beasts. They have armored units. The only disadvantage is their squishiness vs. their cost - they can die quickly.

I think they'd play way better than VC at low points - VC depends heavily on magic to regrow their losses and can just get hammered at low points with no way to come back.

Most of the HE units are a mix of male and female or are pretty androgynous. I haven't heard that the Sisters are particularly good, but if nothing else, there are a lot of female components for conversions and tons of female characters.

I don't play any of those though, so take it with a grain of salt. Hope to see you on Sunday! Bringing my almost-8-year-old, so it'll be a kidstravaganza!

  10. "And that's my famous ping-pong ball trick!"

I never thought of using the balloon like that. I know that you can get it to stand when applying using a blow-on applicator (tricks from when I was 8 and into model railroading) but I don't use grass on my current basing scheme so I haven't had a chance to even think about building one.
