  1. The September to Dismember tournament at Glimpses was a true learning experience for me.  I had the opportunity (or made opportunities) to use new rules and try new things that I had not done before.  I won't write out full reports, but talk about defining moments, learning experiences and other tid bits about each game.

    1.  Frontline vs Eriks NCA:  Erik and I had a great back and forth game, that was really dictated by link teams with high ground.  I setup my unidrons on a building, he set up his core link on a building and that really dictated the pace of the game.  I learned that Fraacta can be very effective at taking out a flank when mine walked on out of LOS and killed 3 models.  I finally remembered white noise could help deal with an MSV2 fatherknight sniper.  I used cybermask to move to take out an assault hacker (although it took a lot of hacking to get him off the table.  Finally, I used CC for the first time with my legate.  All in all got some use out of models not previously used (fraacta and legate) and learned how to deal with other models.  I was winning that game until a 32 point intelcom card swung the game in his favor.

    2.  Deadly Dance vs Alex with his ISS.  Once again I placed my unidrons on the high ground in the center and really locked him down.  I moved my xeodrons up to my designated quadrant turn 1, taking out a minelayer in the processes.  I also made use of superjump to gain LOF to his HMC Yanhuo, while using the building to block lof from other models.  He moved impetuous models and really took a beating, the blast of my missile launcher killing the unconscious yanhuo before it could be brought back.  McMurrough moved up and killed a xeodron.  I moved Dr. Worm up to diddle his HVT, moved my Samaritan up to take out McMurrough with protheon.  Fully boosted up, he went on a rampage in the backfield.  Alex really took a beating in this game.

    3. Show of Force vs Evan:  This was a really fun game, the first two turns were basically long range gun fights.  Evan dropped smoke with his Yuan Yuan and used his MSV sniper to take out my tags.  I failed a lot of armor saves, but that's ok.  I retaliated with my own long range pieces, but the damage had been done. I took too many wounds and spent too many command tokens reforming the link.  We talked about it after the fact, and I was probably a little bit too aggressive withe my tag deployment, especially going second.

Looking forward to October Exploder, the missions are acquisition, Power Pack and the Grid.  The Grid seems tailor made for a haris of Kurgats.  Maybe I'll try and get morats put together for this one.

  2. Got a lot of work done over the long weekend.  I I have made significant progress on my initial priorities list (which has since been revised, but oh well)

Second Xeodron, Umbra Samaritan, Umbra Legate, Fraacta, Unidron w/sniper, unidron w/spitfire, M-Drone, Ikadron and Imetron.  At this rate I believe that I will have at least paint on every model going into September to Dismember.  I may not get all of them done completely, but I am very close.

Here are a couple of WIP shots.  Very happy with how to the Fraacta is shaping up.

  3. Got in a game against Jon with his Nomads at Glipses last night.  We played the Armory.  I got my ass handed to me, and it was awesome.  He had an intruder sniper and a tsyklon feuerbach locking my link team down, which prevented me from getting to the objective room with them.  He played a very good game, but this one was won in the deployment phase.  We discussed after the fact, and I have some ideas for changing the list, and for how to address this type of situation in the future.  Every game has been a learning experience for me lately.  Next change to play will be at the tournmanent on september 9th.  Very much looking forward to it.

@Raindog I have boxes for you.  If @rudra34 is coming to the tournament, I can pass them off to him if that works for everyone.

Finally, a shot of WIP Rodoks and Samaritan.

  4.  Now I'm curious.  I've got several of the SW washes, maybe I'll work up a test and compare with the GW washes I have.  I know some about paints, not as much as I'd like.  Always up for learning more.  From what I understand, it's a matter of thinning existing paints, with water or another medium?

I used the old old GW inks when they were available, and they were pretty glossy.

  5. 13 hours ago, Kremmet said:

    Seven Rodoks? Jeeze....

interesting that you think the Secret Weapon washes are glossy as I haven't found that to be true, but GW's actual sepia wash is also pretty good. It's not as versatile as the SW one, but it works as an easier shade if that's all you're looking for. Well, at least better than Agrax/Devlin would as those are pretty heavy browns  .

Gotta have a Rodok for every occasion... 2 Paramedics, 1 Hacker, 2 Missile Launchers, 1 HMG and 1 Combi/Dual Light Shotgun.  As far as I can tell, you can't have too many Rodoks.

You can see in this WIP shot that the skin is pretty glossy.  This was taken after it dried.  Now, I may have over-washed, but that's what I'm used to with other washes ie wash the entire area, and then lighten up the raised areas.  I may have to return to GW washes, or at least do a test for comparison.IMG_5028.thumb.jpg.c548b4cb60a0d8f5e15b4345e1aca699.jpg

  6. Got some more work done over the weekend, despite having to come in to work on Sat.  7 Rodoks are nearing completion.  Last bit is the hardest, black lining and edge highlighting.  Also worked on a couple of Daturazi, and figured out morat skin tones.  The washes I got from Secret Weapon turn out a bit more glossy than I like.  They come down some from the matte varnish, but still not ideal.  Anyone have any suggestions for a brown/sepia wash?  Agrax earthshade is ok, but I'm still nostalgic for devlin mud.

  7. 1. Isaac is fantastic, and his painting is inspirational.  Looking forward to getting more learning experiences (read getting whupped) from him.

    2. Forgot about U-Turn, also forgot that I could have reset ARO against the targeting.  Won't forget again.

    3. So what does mean for Adam's ITS in September that has Tag missions?

    4. I really do want to make it up, and Aaron has said he wants to get out more too.  We'll also have 2 new players to bring to the bootcamp.  As for me, I will try and come for the fall league.  What I really need is to crowd source an argument for my wife that driving to Portland every Sunday to play a game is reasonable.   Keeping in mind that she is pregnant and we have a 2 yo.  It's a tough sell.

Here are some pictures of the game I forgot to post.

  8. Just realized that it's been a week since my last post.  I stayed home today to watch the eclipse with my family.  We are just north of totality, but decided that we didn't want to leave the house.  It was still pretty cool.

Last Tuesday I got in a game with Isaac at Glimpses.  We played Deadly Dance.  My tag got locked down by a missile launcher I couldn't shift, so he was stuck in my DZ.  I wasted too many orders pushing buttons that didn't need to be pushed.  Also got my first taste of guided ammo.  Ouch.  It was a learning experience as all of my games have been so far.  We discussed after the fact that the overdron is not idea for these missions.  They really want to hang back and use long range weapons, but the mission calls for moving across the board.  If I owned a sphinx I might consider taking it, but as it is, I think I'm going to try a Xeodron haris.  Mobile enough to get to the right quadrant, and K1 ammo is a bonus.

Also, I keep hearing that ITS season 9 is coming, and the missions will change?  Not having experienced this before, when does this happen and how much of the missions change?

I'll give this a shot next time for Deadly Dance and Show of Force:

  9. Ok that makes sense.  The wording and rules are just more complex than necessary.

Here we have the dual HRLs magnetized for the overdron.

Looking forward to getting some games in at Fall League this year.  Will have to discuss with Yanyan as Sundays are usually family/house work days, but I'm optimistic.

  10. Got some more work done on the Overdron this week.  I've magnetized the HMC, and have been working on cutting the HRLs.  Adam wasn't kidding when he said it was tricky.  Here are some pics of the HMC, I'll take some of the HRL and PSR when I finish up tonight.

I'm especially excited to work on the TAG, because we're playing the tag missions at the Glimpses ITS event in September.  I've not really had the opportunity to play in many tournaments, so I'm glad to finally have a free weekend.  However, I don't really know how to tailor a lists for a specific mission.  I've done some preliminary work, but could use some help.

First Mission is Armory.  I want a unit with good close range weapons to take that room and hold it yes?  Rodoks have lots of shotguns.  This seems good to me.

The next two missions are Deadly Dance and Show of Force.  I still haven't been able to wrap my brain around how to play Deadly Dance.  Something about dominating your quadrant, bu the quadrants can change?  Can someone ELI5?  I Figure I'll want at least one TAG, and Overdron with HMC AP Mode is good for killing other Tags.  I'll also definitely want the Malignos Assault Hacker to keep things spicy.

  11. I managed to get a lot done this weekend.  Due to OFCC, I had been neglecting the garage, so I spent Sunday organizing my terrain, throwing away scraps, putting models away, discarding rattle cans and cardboard, and generally cleaning up the work/play space.

I also manged to get a little airbrushing in.

Here is some work done on models in the priority list.  Everyone had a good time hanging out next to the peach pie.

    IMG_4897.jpg.351253768cb758e4d114e2de688efcd6.jpgIMG_4900.jpg.5f7ff7c90c90ef6125f0a956699ba057.jpg

And I also got to work on some Rodoks.  Looking forward to getting these guys back on the table.

EDIT:  Also got some advice from Adam about how to convert the Overdron's HRL.  I picked up a jeweler's saw (thank you AmazonPrime for your prompt delivery), so I'll be working on that this week.

The only thing I'd do is fiddle with the weapon load out on the Overdron as you could get a lot of minor changes through a weapon swap.

Yeah, if I drop the HRMC and grab the Dual HRL's, that nets 17 pts.  Could add back the FO on the unidrons, add a second slave drone, add an R-Drone and still have 4 points to play around with.  But I'm happy with the HRMC for now, and will be magnetizing weapons loadouts, so will be able to swap around in the future.

That is a viciously effective list.

Maybe in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing... :).  I'll get there eventually.

    Progress:

Again, instead of working on the priorities list, I worked on Rodoks.  They have been reassembled, with some minor conversions.

Having trouble adding images due to size restrictions.  May have to host elsewhere, stand by.

  13. Scared Hitless had a great time as always, but this was probably my favorite OFCC to date.  My opponents were fantastic, the painting on the models and tables was fantastic, overall a great vibe.  To answer some of your questions:

    Concerns:

1: I know compared to other places, prizes are thin. I hope no one felted shorted in comparison to the big events like Twinfinity or Rumble on Route 66 or Arizona Armageddon.

I think other have said pretty much the same thing, that we don't come for prizes, but more for good games and camaraderie.  That being said, you might want to consider going back to individual swag bags.  That's where you put your SWM discount code, your patches/buttons  (maybe go beyond and ask players what they are playing), get some small stuff like objective markers, camo tokens, LOF Painting templates, etc.  Stuff that's universally useful but not too expensive, in addition to team giveaways..  I don't know what percentage of the entry fee actually goes towards prizes, but folks might sell at a discount if they're not willing to donate for prize support.  More than willing to help out with this if needed.

2: I worried the booty chart made some spec ops too powerful and caused mismatches.

Didn't see it personally, but could imagine something like this coming up.  Spec ops base profile generally aren't great, so can't take full advantage of the good gear.

    Questions:

1: Did people like the scenarios?

The scenarios were fun, connected and overall pretty balanced.  George did mention to me that there was a lot he may not have thought about, for example the rescue mission.  Without knowing in advance, and without a second list, a remote heavy list would have been at a huge disadvantage.  To be fair, he told me after the fact that had I asked, he would have said that any unit could sync with civvies, but we played it as written.  These types of clarifications before hand would have been nice.  Overall very good, just need a second or third pair of eyes, some polish and clarity.

2: Were team give always okay?

    Just fine.

3: What would you like to see next year?

More players!  36 was a fantastic turnout, but how many of us know more infinity players that just didn't show up?  Get on your peeps, and let's grow this thing!  Scared Hitless is committed to adding a second team, SH2: Electric Boogaloo.

    Others:

Myself at least have taken the feedback about table setup to heart.  Got feedback at the event and realized that we had way to open fire-lanes, and too much height in the deployment zone.  This will be corrected in the future, but having Kremmet's Treatise on Table Setup to start out with would have made a huge difference to someone who has never setup a table before.

I loved, loved, loved having all the space between tables, made a huge difference.

  14. Thanks Kremmet!

If I drop the Umbra (which is an admittedly dubious choice), and drop the FO on the two unidrons, I can add a E-Drone and a second M-Drone.  I do like the idea of having 15 orders and a TAG.  E-drone will also help a bit with going second, Overclock and 4 units with B2 flash pulse.  Are 6 specialists enough?  I guess the answer is "depends on the mission", but for an "all-comers" list, generally speaking?

    Andrew,

it was great to have you Aaron and Frasier as a team at the OFCC. You table was one of the best tables there and your army was very nice.

    1. I would love to see you not only at the Rampage, but at a Fall Game Night.

    2. If you can make it to the Fall League, paint for it and post your results. I will count them.

    3. I am no Onxy expert, so I will defer to others. I do know Ikadrons saved Cody from going into retreat due the baggage rule and are good edge protectors. Adam B. tells me Onxy is a hacking side and recommends several hackers to help the list move around. The TR Bot with mimetism, in cover, and marksmanship 2 hacking program is very nice as well.

We had a fantastic time as always.   We have already started planning for next year, and will be adding a second team to SH.  I was very motivated to paint the best table I could, and it worked out.  However, I have taken some feedback for layout, and won't have such egregious fire lanes next time.

    1.  This year Rampage may not work out for me.  Creature #2 is due on 12/7.

    2.  Which means that if I want to play more, I will have to come out to some Game Nights.  I will have see how that pans out.

14 hours ago, Sgt. Rock said:

They are absolutely a pro-hacking faction. Remember, those Unidrons in that link are REMs, so you can throw things like Assisted Fire on them. Marksmanship L2 on top of all the bonuses from a 5 man link is terrifying, indeed.

Yes, I'm surprised Frazier is still my friend after having eaten lots of Assisted Fire plasma.  Hitting on 17, only taking mods from camo and odd is just too good.

For updates, instead of painting my priorities, I've spend that last couple of night stripping my Rodoks to change to the new color scheme.
