    Hey Portland 40k players!

I am a returning player who last played during 7th ed. I finally (mostly) painted up about 1500 pts worth of Death Guard and am ready to start playing again! I am looking for an opponent that is well versed in the 9th ed. rules and willing to work with me through a potentially slower game while I reacquaint myself with all the complexities of this game. I am fully vaccinated and down for Covid safety procedures etc.

It sounds like Guardian games is doing 40k nights on Wednesday again and could be a good place to meet up for a match.

    Name: Ethan

    Game: Warhammer 40k

    Armies - 40k: 1500 - 2k Points Death Guard, 1500 pts Black Legion CSM

    Location: Portland, OR

    Cheers

Yes Guardian is a good place to play 40k (or any other Warhammer Game) on Wednesday nights. They ask you a series of questions such as: if you are a beginner, casual or competitive gamer, what points level you would like to play at, if you are willing to teach new players and a few other questions to help match up all players. Just sign up on Thursday around noon because they have been selling out all 30 slots most weeks.

I'd like to learn AoS, but it seems all the games are either for 40K, or for 2000pts for AoS.

Yah its been hard to get players to play other games other than 40k. That being said there has always been at least one or two games of AoS all weeks. I know a lot of the AoS players have been kind of busy in regards to it being summer and such. If you sign up and put down that you would like me (Jeremy Conser) as your opponent. I would love to teach you AoS. A lot of players put down a points range too which is an option I always sign up at 1000 to 2000 points and I put down that I am willing to teach new players. I also put down all of the games I play currently, AoS, Underworlds and Adeptus Titanicus so that way I can fill in where I am needed. We tried to make the system as flexible as possible but its not perfect.

Anyone playing at geeks this friday?

They always have players on Friday but I think I might be the only one who posts or checks the Ordo board. They do nearly all of their coordination through Facebook or Facebook messenger. They have 6 full wargaming tables on Friday for AoS. Playable from 5:30 to 9:30pm every Friday. I was there last week I won't be this week.

I get back from military training soon.  I plan to play some AoS.  Need to start playing competitively.  Got a new addition for my DoK!

Awesome man the Casual League has been doing very well, got 3 game of AoS in and a few games of Underworlds in as well. Its been great for players of all types, beginner, causal or competitive. Hoping to get in some of the new Kill Team in next month.

    Hello,

I've only played the previous edition starter set and am interesting in getting more into AOS. Would this be a good way to get into the game and new edition? I'm happy enough to lose but wouldn't want to drag things down as a new player.

You can totally come play AoS Wednesday nights at Guardian Games. Being a beginner and teaching other players is all built into the system they have set up. You can also play games at any point size. Red Castles escalation league I am sure would be great for this as well. They also play on Fridays at Geeks and Games.

Thank you for posting this kind of info.

Any idea how many tables were playing AoS out of the 17? Were all 17 GW games?

Yes all GW games, in fact you can only play GW games on this night. I think it was 12 tables of 40k and 5 tables of AoS. Some players signed up for other "boxed" games but ended up playing 40k and AoS instead due to how many players signed up for the big games. I signed up to play either AoS or Warhammer Underworlds or Adeptus Titanicus next week. So depending on who signs up for what, I can have that flexibility to slot in wherever. You also rate yourself, if you are either a beginner (1), casual (2) or competitive (3) gamer. So they pair people up primarily based on the GW game you want to play, your personal rating (1, 2 or 3) and how many points you want to play (if applicable). Its a really nice system that I helped develop with them. You also don't need to be on any social media platform to help coordinate games. which was something I was concerned about. Anyone can view the sign ups in the attached google sheet but only Guardian can edit it. They put you in a pool at the bottom and then pair people up as it gets closer to Wednesday game night.

Yeah, we’re targeting some time in September. It’ll give folks time to get familiar with the new rules. What we’re really waiting for is Red Castle to open up their gaming tables. We’ll probably get regular games going before the Escalation League

Does Red Castle have any projected date as to when they will open for in-store play again?

  8. We have a good group of gamers that have been playing AoS every Friday from 6pm to 9:30pm at Geeks and Games if anyone in here is interested. I will be there this Friday and I am always willing to play a lower points learning game, along with other players that play as well. Hopefully soon Guardian will open up for in-store play and we can get the Tuesday night Age of Sigmar night going again as well.

  10. There are actually a fair amount of local players that play and love AoS, but almost none of them post to the Ordo boards. There is a good group that plays weekly at Geeks and Games & Guardian Games as well. Most local players hang out and chat on Facebook messenger and Discord. I think Rose City Wrath (a local AoS a tournament) had 40 players signed up before it had to get cancelled due to Covid.  There are also local players that enjoy Warcry and Warhammer Underworlds as well. All 3 games have a decently healthy player base, no not to 40k levels but I don’t think any Wargames have that level of popularity.
