Also, doesn't Scavengers say that you should place the counters before picking Table Edges?

I need to double check. I honestly didn't think about the win condition I wound up rolling to choose first and figured being close to the token would be helpful. I was a little surprised that there wasn't a provision for something like this.

  2. It was more a realization that I did a stupid. I hadn't been the one to roll the number of markers. The lack of any real game was in large part my fault, I should have double checked the number of loot tokens but I'd been distracted.

  3. So I've decided that after playing two games and ending up with a wopping 8 promethium caches that Imperial Guard run by a savvy Necromunda vet might be slightly over powered. My first game consisted of me terrorizing some poor old Necrons with a seemingly endless rain of krak grenades until thy were little more than scrap parts. Add to that my opponent rolled poorly for his number of fighters available and lost a guy BEFORE the fight even started.

Also some of the scenarios are looking a little lopsided. Case in point: Game #2 lasted all of 2 turns. It was Scavengers. and we rolled only one loot counter which I got to place. 8 inches from my edge. My opponent's CSMs never even SAW my guardsmen. Amusing but hardly what I'd call a fun battle. Any how feel free to share your tales of skirmish level fun and fail.

I'd argue that guard have randomly added and subtracted tank variants every time a book comes out, sometimes wildly. The 4th ed book had what 2 Leman Russ, a basilisk, and hellhound? Then 5th something like quadrupled the number of variants.

But I get your point. They've always had essentially 3 unit profiles. Standard guardsmen, chimera chassis, and Leman Russ chassis.

Exactly. There have always been the three solid standbys for IG. Trooper, Tank and Transport. I never really fell for all those fancy new fangle variants of the Russ. Only things I use beyond the base variant is the Vanquisher.

What is an ageless 40k army?

That's a good question. I'd argue any well organized IG army is ageless but I've been playing guard for ages. Simple Space Marine armies built around a Command Squad and two Tac. Squads might  be qualified as "ageless".

  6. Behold a quote from the darkest pits of the internet:

"Almost 20 years I have played 40k. It doesn't really change. New minis and new rules come about but it is always fundamentally the same game. You ether adapt, play an ageless army or you tumble into the pit with the other mewling spawn and bitch for eternity."

I thought you all might find it something worthy of pondering. Not calling you whiners.

  7. I don't think formations would have bothered folks quite as much had some more effort been put into balancing them but I digress. Tanks'll be fine. I gett the feeling though they might get a reduced armor save from behind. Seems like a simple way of doing it.

  8. WARNING: Force Commander DasBox ran afoul of two Tau formations last Sunday and hasn't been the same since.

I danced and capered about like a loon when I found out  formations were going away. No more BS freebie super powers keeping honest us IG players down. Now you'll have to fight fair again universe! And WE just fixed bayonets....

  9. I understand your concern regarding learning a new rule system. The reason that I"m going with Shadow War for the month is that it has some resemblance rules wise with what GW has teased us with in their previews. At least that's what I'm seeing. Weather I'm right or wrong remains to be seen. And speaking of Age of Sigmar you're welcome to come down on Saturday to play. I'd love to give it a try myself.

  10. Howdy folks. This month will be dedicated to Shadow War Armageddon and I'm personally offering bait a prize to the best player and another to who ever can beat me in a special death trap scenario. Nothing too large but enough to make it worth ones time. I look forward to slaughtering seeing you guys there. Signs up starts this Saturday.

So for all those bailing on your 40k, hit me up, I may be in the market to buy your junk army for cheap.

You'll have to fight me for the Imperial Guard scraps mate. Queensbury rules.

Jokes aside. I can see AoS picking up more players simply due to the fact that people who love scifi will be lured in buy a more accessible 40k and then its a short leap to wanting those kickass power armored dwarves.
