  1. Well, it's incredibly difficult to make money on an already made game. Look at Dystopian Wars- you need at least the rule book, a starter fleet, and dice. Maybe a friend or two, but really just someone else to play the game with and a table. If you like the game, you buy a couple more ships, and that's about it. If you really like the game, you'll maybe buy 1-2 more fleets. Maybe. I haven't ran into many DW players with more than two fleets (I have my American and French fleets). After that, you either start releasing campaign books and new models for people to buy, or you... make a new game. Look at it from a Game Designer's perspective: He (or she!) spends a bunch of time and effort making a game. Game gets released. Game Designer fiddles with it for a bit, releases an FAQ or Errata, and now they want to move on to a different game.

Spartan Games isn't a very big company, so that's probably exactly what's going on.

What I do like is their willingness to listen to the player base and thoughtfully reconsider the direction the company (and games) were moving in. I hope they don't listen too much, as group consensus, and group think make for poor design choices, and compromise waters down and pollutes the choices to the point where no one is happy.

Still, good on them for reversing course on getting back to the game that made them famous (because no one remembers Uncharted Seas, right? Or Dystopian Legions, right? ).

Side note: Does anyone around here play Dystopian Wars?

  2. Did you get the metal version too, or just the Failcast... I mean, Finecrap... errr... dammit, the non-metal version?

Buying online always has risks. It's like I'm rolling the dice every time I get something on eBay, or my buddy Juan (from the Philippines), Long Dick Dong (China), or Dimitri (from some Eastern block country). I always thought Amazon was a step above all that, but I guess not. I hope you left feed back about that seller!

  3. Can you imagine playing someone that has 3-4 of these in his army, and about halfway through the game, picks one up, pops the top off revealing his deodorant of choice, swipes it in his 'pits, puts the lid back on, and then places it back on the board? "sorry man, I was stinking up a bit there.":laugh:

Oh, how much nicer many of a tournament I have been to would be. Why is it so many Gamers seem to have an aversion to personal hygiene?

  4. I'm just surprised that the Custodies are getting such a huge release in Book 7 Inferno. I was expecting the Space Wolves and Thousand Suns to get a full up release, with unique units, plus the full campaign for burning Prospero, We knew Custodies and SoS were in the book, but I though that was gonna be a couple units tops. Now, it's looking like a full up 30K army, which is awesome!

I just hope it's not going to be a low model count, high points density army.

  5. ITC restricts Fortifications to one one data slate only, and doesn't allow fortification networks, as well as outlaws the Macro Cannon and the Vortex Missile Aquila Strongpoint. As you noted, most detachments do not have a Fortification slot, and those that do are, again, restricted by the ITC, and as everyone uses ITC, we don't see Fortifications.

I'm hoping for some interesting scenarios. I'd like to use my Fortress of Redemption at least once in my life... LOL

  6. Sweet modern deodorant tank

You know, younger players have no clue what you are talking about, right? Heck, I'd say most current 40K players have no idea what you are talking about. That conversion came out in White Dwarf #95, in 1987. Yer showing yer age there, Long Beard.

This tank makes me tingle all over like the Sicarian new release did. I'll be getting two or three of these.

  7. Congratulations on the win!

Do you think unfamiliarity with your list could have been the reason you performed so well? As in, your opponents totally underestimated the shenanigans you could pull?

It was only 1000 points- which makes the game very difficult to play. Did the 'Pocket GT' rules severally restrict what you could and could not bring? Did it limit CADs? Etc. Etc.

Sounds like you learned a lot about how you want to make your army in the future! Congrats on the win again, and good luck with the "new" army!

  8. Lemon Wuss rules until book 7 Inferno comes out. Gah, those rules are bad!

That Legion Custodes Caladius Grav-Tank gives me the tingles like the Sicarian tank did when it first came out. Could it be that the Custodes will be an actual, flushed out, formation/detachment/allied force that you will be able to use in 30K??? This White Dwarf gives them a Troops choice, Elites choice, and we know they are getting a Contemptor Dreadnought, and the tank would be Heavy Support (though if that is a 120mm oval base it's sitting on, it might be a Lord of War choice instead as it'll be Fellblade size). Throw in an HQ choice- like some dude in charge of the Custodes at Prospero like they did with Magos Reductor Calleb Decima at Isstavan III (Book I), a way to transport them (Spartan Land Raiders maybe? Or some new variant) and suddenly, we have an army of Custodians.

  9. Reprint of the Tau Tidewall! Excellent!

I really like those Haemotrope Reactors! I wonder what kind of rules they will have... and even if they have no rules, it would still be an awesome looking terrain piece!

Planetary Onslaughts sounds like a must have book if you use fortifications.

  10. I would imagine there are some formation pics we just haven't seen yet....

I hope so! Because if they don't have some kind of detachment rules, then as WestRider said, they would only be usable in an Unbound army... which IMHO isn't that bad of a thing, except for the entrenched "ITC IS MY GOD AND I WORSHIP IT EVERY TIME I PLAY!" attitude a lot of people seem to have.

  11. Thanks barca. I was not able to post the FB link and wasn't sure if it was a setting with this forum.

You have to have a minimum amount of posts before you can post links and pictures. I think it's 10 IIRC? It's a Poor Man's Anti-Spam filter that works surprisingly well!

  12. The 40K rules for both squads are pretty good! Custodians armed with Guardian Spears are Initiative 4, 3 attacks, WS 5, Strength 5 AP 2! Like Terminators, but better! I could see 3/4 of a unit with spears, and the rest with the Swords and Storm Shields.

The Sisters are not bad! I could see taking a unit of them, especially if I was facing a Psyker heavy army. I wonder if they will get a formation (seems silly for only one unit, but...). I think I too, will be looking at picking up enough for a full squad of each.

  13. Err yeah in my early 20's umm there was what 2 tanks and sorta Dreadnoughts, well not like the ones today... oh hell now that I look at the release dates I was freaking 20 when Rogue Trader came out.

Thanks for making me feel old.

Don't worry bud. I was right there with you.  When I think about all the editions I've played through and all the games... /shudder

  14. Sisters of Battle do not gossip, that is heresy!

Oh, I bet they gossip all the time.

How big is the Emperor? Is the Golden Throne really Golden? Who picked the Power Armor for Sister Felcia to wear, it's totally unflattering on her. Does this Power Armor make my butt look too big? Does this Bolter and Chainsword go together? Did you hear what Inquisitor Robert said about so-and-so? Did you watch 'As the Imperium Turns' last night? I heard the Parxius System got over run by Orks again. Do you really think they will make us go back there and clean up that mess again? I don't care if the Grey Knights are the best of the best of the best, I will NOT work with a bunch of male chauvinistic, psychic retards that swoop in at the last minute, fight one big Daemon, then take all the credit! Why do we always get stuck with these Deimos Pattern Rhinos that are 10,000 years old, and the Space Marines get brand new Damocles Pattern Rhinos? It's not fair! They get all the good stuff, and we have to get by with our Faith...

Indeed, I bet the Sisters of Battle have one of the most expansive and exhaustive intelligence networks of the Imperium.

  15. Really depends on which Admech "faction" you go with. The Thalax and Vorax stuff all have a lot of reverse articulated legs and more "otherworldly" look to them, so the Cerastus line of knights would fit in better with that kind of army. Then you have the Castellex and Thanatar stuff that is much more humanoid in appearance with a big, bulky silhouette. The Questoris and Imperial Knights look like bigger versions of these guys. The two questions are: Do you want your Knights to stand out (contrast) from the rest of your army or to look similar to (compliment) the rest of your army? Figure out what the bulk of your infantry will look like, and then choose the Knight that either compliments or contrasts with them.

Or go WAAC and just choose the Knight that will win you games.

  16. Think back to when you were in your late teens/early 20's. You can choose a Space Marine Army, paint 50+ infantry models, some tanks, Drop Pods, Dreadnought, and bikes. Or you can spend the same amount of money on five GIANT STOMPPY ROBOTS for the same amount of money. Place a Space Marine next to a Knight and see how insignificant and small it is compared to the Knight. It's a psychological, perception thing, We are attracted more to the big thing than the small thing. "Bigger is always better!" is a western philosophy that has been around for a long time.

If you had two Space Marines, one on a 25mm base and another on a 32mm base, and asked someone that doesn't play "Which Space Marine is bigger?" they will answer the 32mm based one. It was a genius move by Gee Dub to put Space Marines on 32mm bases. It taps into that perception thing (Bigger is always better).

New players gravitate instinctively to the bigger model. Gee Dub then gave them the rules to be competitive- so now the veteran players look at the big models to purchase as well. Never underestimate the power of the Gee Dub marketing department. They have far more influence and input in Gee Dub than probably any other department or person in the company. Do you honestly believe one of the Design Studio guys one day decided "Hey! Space Marines look better on a 32mm base! We should package all Space Marines with 32mm bases!" No way. It was a marketing guy, using these exact same ideas, and they spun it with a new launch of scenic bases for Gee Dub models. They looked at the market and saw how popular pre-made scenic bases are, and they wanted to get in on that action. Seriously- "We think Space Marines look better on 32mm bases, so from now on, Space Marines will be on 32mm bases, and we are also announcing the release of our new plastic scenic bases!"

  17. Plastic sister with beautiful codex in March only to be totally flushed when they invalidate all codex's in September for eighth. So sisters have to wait another 5 years for a new codex. That would be a GW move. Seriously if we get plastic sisters the last rally cry will be for squats and zoats!!!

Your time line is a bit off. I bet Sisters in the first quarter of '17 (Jan-Mar), with 8th Edition in the second quarter (Apr-Jun).

I hope for plastic Sisters, and even if I only get to play them for 2-3 months before the rules system changes, I'll be OK with that. If the change from 7th to 8th is the same as it was from 2nd to 3rd, then it won't matter too much, as EVERYONE will be on the same playing field at first, until they get a Codex. If we see a Sigmafacation of 40K, then everyone will have a Warscroll, and at least they kept the essence of each unit that got a Warscroll (except the armies that just... went away... ).

If the new edition is crap, if they release the Sisters on Saturday, and the next week 8th Edition that that totally invalidates the new Codex... I comfort myself with the idea that I'll finally have plastic Sisters, and they will be the best Sisters of Battle Gee Dub has ever made.

    Squats and Zoats...

  18. So the doors will open at 10:00am on the 22nd for a Club Cleaning, then the meeting at 1:00pm, and then possibly continuing the cleaning afterwards? Your post as written makes it sound like the cleaning will be the day before and the day after the meeting.

Oh, any possible gaming after the meeting and cleaning is done? I love to dirty stuff up that I just cleaned.

  19. Interesting rules! I love the kind of rumors that start out wildly exaggerated and as we get closer and closer to the release date, they get pared down to the actual rules. The Halberds in that last rumor are a bit underwhelming, and I think I'd rather take the sword and shield combo, especially if it's a 4++ reroll, but as AbusePuppy says, it's probably a conditional reroll like reroll 1's or something. The cost seems a bit out of whack as well. Right now, not seeing much of a reason to take Custodians over Terminators.

Destroyer Squads are an Elites choice in HH, and are armed with two bolt pistols and a chainsword or combat blade- but the critical thing is they come with Rad Grenades as standard, which are awesome. There really isn't a Legion squad that comes standard with a Bolter and Chainsword, though it's an option in one or two specific Legion squads (I think the World Eaters have a variant Destroyer Squad that does it?). Forge World pulled a fast one on us with the "Despoiler Squad". It's listed at the FW website, but there are no rules for them. I think they are just a Tactical Squad with BP/CCW. I mean, I have the old HH Books 1-3 and the new Legion and Age of Darkness books, so maybe they came out in Books 4-6? Anyone care to shed some light on the subject?
