Nice to see someone remembering that the chittering, all-conquering ever-hungry swarm is the reason for the season.

Too many of today’s youth thing the holiday is all about empty consumerism and not existential horror from beyond the stars.

    *ROTFLMAO*  Thanks much!  😄

I also got this little festive guy done - not cultist... that we know of... he *is* wearing a hat after all. It's for the Warhammer Store Red Gobbo painting competition tomorrow...

Damn, dude! That is just amazing! When I first saw it, I thought for a moment I was looking at a full scale cosplay or something.

Thanks!!!  I really enjoyed getting this one together.  It was a challenge and really stretched my technique to the limit...

  3. So the Genestealer Cult boards have been really a hot bed of conversions and kitbashes lately. One of the users posted a great conversion of the Kroot from Blackstone Fortress and I was inspired to make my own. I'm working on getting some better photos as this one just doesn't do it justice, but I've just about finished up my sniper Sanctus including a servo skull as familiar...

Some high level details on the conversion:

  5. More cult goodness!  Finally got the Nexos completed along with the standard bearer for one of the Command Squads for the Brood Brothers detachment!

    No photo description available.

The Nexos is one of the nicest miniatures I've put together. Fit is awesome, design is awesome. I build and painted it in pieces to get it just right

The Standard bearer took some work as I had to file out all of the detail on the flag, but I'm happy with the end result

    No photo description available.

I'd been hoping to get both of these done for Armies on Parade, but hey - better late than never!  Lots more on the table... watch this space!

  6. I only found out about the Armies on Parade event a couple of months ago, so I sort of had to get the base work in high gear. Ended up going with the Cityscape Genatorium Sector as most of the base with a few extra bits added. While I didn't medal, I did take "Best Painted" - so overall I'm happy!

  8. So since my last blog entry was a little light on details, I decided to go into the nitty gritty of getting the Cult Baneblade together and painted in the most recent installment. It's a simple green baneblade, that used:

    3 colors of primer

Over 26 colors of paint + two pigments

    At least four different washes

Full details (including the epic paint chart below) at the blog!

  10. Okay - everyone channel your inner Boromir!

    baneblade%2B-%2Bthey%2Bhave%2Ba%2Bbaneblade.jpg

I started with the standard Baneblade kit, and decided from the outset I wanted to go with the vanilla version. Construction was a bit tricky as I wanted to leave the tracks off of the vehicle and paint them separately before adding them to the vehicle. I found that supergluing the wheel segments on so I could easily hold them in alignment until they dried was effective. The rest of the construction process was relatively straight forward, if time consuming. Honestly the hardest part was converting one of the commander figures to a four-armed genestealer hybrid - and mostly because I had to find a right arms set that would fit above the cupola.

    baneblade%2B-%2Bfront%2B3-4%2B-%2Balt.jpg

Except for the tracks and a few details, painting essentially follows the pattern I've set forth with my other vehicles for this army. I'm using Ammo of Mig 4BO green using transparator thinner over a pre-shaded black and white base coat. This is followed with very liberal chipping and then oil streaking with an dark brown Ammo of Mig oilbrusher finished up with a black wash.

    baneblade%2B-%2Bfront%2B3-4.jpg

As I always like to try something new, I went a different direction on the tracks based on examples in Mig's Enclyclopedia of Armour Modelling Techniques. I started with a red oxide primer, then used shadow rust and medium rust as an airbrushed base followed by polished metal highlighting. I then thinned down some Kursk Mud as a wash and finally went back with gunmetal pigment (essentially graphite) brushed on as a final highlight. Getting the tracks on and aligned was fairly tricky, but the end result looks pretty cool.

Another difference is I used one of my chrome paint pens - well, okay the paint from a chrome paint pen - as backing for the clear and clear red fixtures on the vehicle itself. I also added some stowage from the kit and a couple of other bin dives. Decals as always are a mix of Games Workshop and Scumb4g Kustoms who I simply can't recommend highly enough.

  11. At one point a user on Facebook asked, "how do you beat a Baneblade with Genestealer Cult"

I believe I now have the definitive answer...

This beast was a load of fun to paint up and build. There are lots of little touches here and there if you go looking for them. I even tried something new with the tracks this time around. If you're so inclined you can read the full story at my blog - including some fun backstory on the Baneblade in Warhammer 40K.
