  1. Hey There, welcome to FSA! In my opinion, the Terrans, Dindrenzi, and Aquans are all pretty good fleets to start out with. Aquans are fast and heavy hitting, with a fair amount of tinkering that you can do to there capital ships. Dindrenzi play very direct, but have some interesting choices squadron wise, while the Terrans are highly customizable. They all do play differently, but i think those three are easier to use than the Directorate, and the Relthoza. The Sorelians are (arguably) considered the weakest of the 6 major races, though they also have some interesting squadron choices and also play very straightforward. Most of the fleets play well against each other, and its more about your list composition and synergy, and the mission being played that make the game fun and challenging. Hope i helped! ~Jared
  2. Im looking to pick up two more squadrons of (2nd gen models) cruisers and a squadron of (2nd gen models) V2 Heavy Cruisers. Ill pay cash, If you want to sell any or all, PM me. -J
  3. I've ordered the Relthozan Core Helix as well as the Generals set (Main Rulebook, All the tokens, etc, Tac Cards, and a few objectives). In short, the Spiders will be hot dropping into an atmosphere near you.... very soon.
  4. That's a pretty nice set of campaign rules, though a bit more in depth than i had imagined! I was thinking a bit more casual, and more accessible for noobs. Slow grow sounds good to me, though i think players could agree to play larger point games if they wish (who doesn't like to bring out the toys!).
  5. Hey guys, If any of you are selling or have the starter set's Dendrenzi stuff, i'd gladly buy it from you. I specificallly need the Praetorian Battleship. Failing that, i would go halfsies on a Battle for Valhalla starter set. ~Jared
  6. Hey Guys, i have reserved two tables for this Saturday, Noon -6pm. Peter and I will have one, so one is left over. If theire are more folks coming let me know so i can reserve another!
  7. I think i will, though i'd like to be the Terran or the Relthoza if possible! Is the scale 10mm, 12mm, or 15mm?
  8. Hey All, I was tinkering around with an idea i had for playing Firestorm as a campaign over a series of weeks, either using a points system as is being currently used for Spartan, or on a map that i could paint up (I'm a fantasy cartographer by profession). I wasn't sure how much interest there would be in such a campaign, but i thought it would be fun to mull over with everyone. Main Idea: For a map (My preference of course) it would be cool to run it a bit like a FoW campaign. I could map out the Storm Zone, and dice it into territories connected by Waygates or some such thing for capture. Certain territories would have an abundance of certain Terrain types, or possibly limit certain capabilities (No Shunt Arrival, more or less Ambush tokens, Limited Shields or Cloaking etc.) Players would roll off against one another and whoever wins may choose what territory to attack. Each week could have an Initiative bonus based on the Fluff. (First Week- Zenian League Attack Initiative+2, Second Week, +1, Third Week- Even, Fourth Week- Alliance of Kurak +1, etc.). Optional Stuff: An overall commander could be chosen for each side. Might be neat though since each side could receive reinforcement tokens as a point bonus for a single match. This might get outta hand unless the points were small, like 100, 150, 200pts. Anyways, just figured i'd throw it out there for discussion!
  9. I completely agree! However they aren't much good at killing cruisers either due to their range band and cloaking limitation and seem to be quite vulnerable to multiple medium ships. They cant close with an enemy very well since they are slow(6" move which cant be upgraded), and they have no Mines either. Overall, i feel like they fall into a niche category, that of a second line ship, and there are better choices than it for that role (Battlecruisers). My solution is not to use it much, lol. It might be good as a big papa un-upgraded escort to a carrier fleet.
  10. Most scenarios will not allow you to stay put since they also have various victory conditions to satisfy. Also, some scenarios will have your fleet arrive in a fragmented fashion, leaving some of your ships int he open and alone. Moving from full stop will take you at least a turn, sometimes you cant afford to lay back. All depends on the scenario.
  11. Yeah yeah, you are all humans manning those shiny corporate ships though! I guess i was too aggressive with it (which was a switch from the last two games i used it), but its a Battleship! Unfortunately, its just too frail and cant do anything very well. Cloaking on a Battleship really isnt very effective when you have no way of damaging anyone with the cloak up! No Weapon shielding, Split Fire, Bigger Batteries, or PD Barrage makes it pretty useless :( Oh well, im picking up two more carrier groups, so SRS insanity is on the way!
  12. Yes, you can deploy at Full stop (I do this all the time), thought that really only helps mine-wise when they lay a minefield in front of you before the game begins. Even then, those minefields have to be laid at least 8" away from you, which gives ample time to evade them. For my first point above, I was referring to Mines laid mid-battle (Which is 95% of the time Mines really come into play).
  13. On Sunday, the Terran's once again blew my battleship into smithereens by the beginning of turn three, lol. Damn you Red Menace!
  14. 1.) Unfortunately, A Fullstop is done in your secondary movement phase, not your Primary Movement phase, so you must move at least half of your movement as compulsory, and then put a full stop marker. This means you will either stop before the mine, or try and maneuver around it, which is probably helpful to your opponent, or plow on through, which is obviously what you opponent wants. 2.) A Relthozan vessel that is Shunting cannot Shunt at Full Stop, it must move in its primary movement phase (half its movement Compulsory), then perform the shunt. So you may shunt next to a mine, and not have it explode, but you will get hit next turn. This was resolved in the Errata. 3.) Proximity Vectoring is the rules version of "shlubbing" an overlapping bases situation. More often than not, if you are going to wind up on an oppossing players base and you MUST move at least your compulsory movement, than your ship will probably be bumped behind the enemy vessel, which is exactly what you need to lay a good minefield. All that being said and having played another game with Stew using Mines, they are just something that you need to watch out for, or use very much to your advantage. I laid two 8AD strong mine clusters on top of Stews battlecarrier and battleship, when the lines came together, and they did alot of collateral damage to his Capital accompaniments, and both large capital ships. However, i suppose thats just part of the game, and part of the pts makeup for each ship. Personally, i think support shuttles should be used to try and lessen minefields. I dont think its really OP, since most folks don't use Support Shuttles anyway, and if they do, they are in low token counts.
  15. 5-600 pts should work fine for a learning game.
  16. Well the Directorate certainly has some nasty (Nastier than i had originally thought) tricks up its sleeves! You Reinforced arc is def. a nice touch, but be aware that when the fleet come together in a melee, i wouldnt rely on it to protect you as much as you'd think. Cloaking is excellent and your Heavy Cruiser is a fantastic choice for the points. Just be aware that to get your full AD, you have to be Decloaked. Also since your have beam weapons, you want to get within 10" to get those reroll on 1's. I suspect the Directorate is a bit of a finesse Fleet since they have a few different ways of attacking the enemy, though you'd be smart to use those incredibly cheap Cyberwarefare drones. Most people dont have much of a defense against that sort of attack, and given the attack range its a good weapons to soften up targets in combo with a Boarding strategy. Things to think about: -Your battleship is hard to crit but (Very) easy to damage, DR 6 is very average for BBs. Unlike the Terrans, you don't have access to Weapon Shielding, and your firepower will start to drop significantly when you are taking hits. After a few hits, 2-3, you will be vulnerable to Bomber wings. A good player will strip away your escorts relatively easy and leave that wounded battleship at a disadvantage. Protection with other ships or interceptors is probably a good thing. -Support Shuttle only help by removing effects, they don't heal damage. Since you already have superior design on most of your ships that matter, and consequently wont gain hazard markers and the like, you should devote your minimal airwing to PD or a concentrated strike. Fighters or Interceptors are good, but a 6 strong bomber wing going against a target that has been cyber attacked and had its PD disabled is a big beat stick, especially if you follow up with and boarding attempt. - If you cant get your hands on their models, i would looks for cheap substitutes form other companies until Spartan Games catches up. I found a few that are cheap and would look great as ecorts for your vessels since they fit your ship design well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Noble-Armada-ACTA-MGP3657-The-Church-Rack-Frigate-5-Ship-Miniatures-NIB-/140736859371?pt=Games_US&hash=item20c4920ceb http://www.ebay.com/itm/Noble-Armada-ACTA-MGP3589-House-Al-Malik-Spider-Frigate-5-Miniatures-Ships-NIB-/141298723826?pt=Games_US&hash=item20e60f6bf2 Noble Armada ships are a good size and very cheap! Just some thoughts! ~Jared
  17. Lol, Jeremy has the luck of the Irish with those damn dice! P.S- I gave in and ordered a Relthozan specific KR foam case for my ships (Only 45 bucks with shipping)... so no more ghetto carrying in my cardboard box anymore:-P It should come in the next week or two!
  18. Great game today with Jeremy... RSN is a beast! Have a new list that i am eager to try out though i have to paint up some more stuff to get it on the table without proxies. *Hint* Its got 35 SRS Wings and is a Battle Shunt List... So should be interesting to say the least, lol.
  19. Yep, i'll be there around noon! I'm up for teaching too, though i'm hankering to get a game in!
