  1. I agree on the one-dimensional aspect.

It is not really as deep as "Tank Aces" but has some of those aspects (Crew, heroes, upgrades).

That said, the target customer/gamer is not a person versed in WWII miniatures, at least not the FoW crowd.

It is geared toward everyone else.  If someone felt Flames was too complex for them, this may show them the core mechanics that they could get their head around.

Look at this as a Gateway to get some TANKS players into "Open Fire!" or "Team Yankee" or eventually FoW (like an escalation league?)

Some of the TANKS players may never move beyond TANKS.

I am just asking for some experienced players to get them to ask deeper questions and/or poke holes before putting it in front of the public.

From there, I can go on the forum and post questions, discuss issues, and play test the answers/suggestions.

Prob won't scale well beyond 5 tanks per side.

On that note, I played a game with my wife, and two games with my little brother and we had lots of fun blowing up each others tanks.  My wife even had fun building her own Sherman, in her words, "It's such a cute tank!"

  2. I've played 3 games so far, I thought it would be a fun game to play with people who don't want to deal with a 260pg rule book (friends and family).  So far I've found it to be pretty 1 dimensional, but I also haven't played too much with the upgrades for the tanks.  I don't know that I could be there the 4th of July weekend for a game, I've got the whole family getting together that weekend, plus my test is on the 7th so it'll be cram time for the exam.

  3. Terrain is ok for up to two tables at Guardian, but in need of some repair.  Also lacking in city and ruins.  Is anyone interested in a terrain building day?

I would be interested in a terrain building day, just would need to be post July 7th for me (I have an exam on July 7th so that is eating up all my free time right now).

Welcome to the area Evan, we usually have 3-4 people show up Thursday nights at GG.  Typically we start showing up around 6pm, and usually there's a post on here about what we are planning on bringing that week.

  4. Squadron, I'm usually at GG on Thursdays (I'm out of town this week) but if you show up on a Thursday night around 6pm I'd be more than happy to lend you an army and play a demo game or two with you.

Is there an army in particular you are interested in collecting?

  5. If you are going to do a blitz round tournament, I would recommend the following format:

    4 Rounds

    2 hrs per round

    1000 Pts

    Late War

    4'x4' Tables

This is an excellent format for people wanting to try out a new army, and for new players to get into a tournament, still 4 games in one day is brutal.  I think if you want to have multiple rounds in a tournament you should spread the tournament over 2 days.

Also I attended a tournament using the format I described above, and of my 4 games, 2 of them timed out, and there were several other games timing out.  None of my opponents were playing slow, but it just takes a while to roll all the dice, make movements, let alone think about what you are doing.  Anyways it was a fun tournament overall (I ended up killing 2 King Tigers in one of the rounds with one PIAT!).

  6. I would also stray from the FOW point levels. 1700 for a tournament is highly annoying because of the sheer volume in models people field. It really slows the play down quite a bit. I would vote for 1300-1500 for a spectrum. Go speed chess style in 90 minutes with 5 minutes to set up and start dice rolling.

However, I will support th group on the decision. If we end up playing 2700 points on three hours...I probably would do that too because I can game.

Honestly I don't think 90 minutes is enough time even at 1300 points.  To get down to hour and a half matches you would have to be at the 1000 point level or lower on 4x4 tables, and even then that's pushing it.
