Scarydog
I’ve been searching for a good Matt finish for models and bases. Tonight I airbrushed some bases for my custodes and one of the tints left quite a shine. So I sprayed on some minitaire flat coat and it still came out glossy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong with airbrushing a clear coat (it was the first time I have used it)
VonVilkee
shake/ mix has allot to do with it from my experience. The matte stuff separates from the varnish. The glossy part flows better so if it isn't mixed well you get shiny without the matte dulling effect. Kinda similar to some of the GW washes.
Psilence
I've had good luck with the GW spray 'purity seal'. On my grey knights it brought me back from a straight up chrome to a silver that would actually take a wash coat without just running off. I've tried a similar spray from Fred's with less success. Temperature of your painting space might have some effect as well. Good luck :)

I bet this is my problem, I was rushing and just barely shook it after it had sat for a really long time. I will try again. 1
