  1. hmmm I am looking mostly to play non-gw games with my friend from New Mexico - currently Armada - but it could branch out.  I was thinking at 20$ or less TableTop Sim may be worth the try.  I will look for me how to vids - to see what kinda education I will need to undertake before buying though.  Thanks!

  2. Does anyone use or have tried TableTop Simulator or tried Vassal for war-games?  I have a friend whom lives in another state and we play Armada when he is in town.  We would also play other table top games as well over the internet when time allowed.

Can anyone give me a review or gamer opinion on either or both of them?  Looking at TableTop Simulator more than Vassal - but either could be solutions.  I have no experience with them so hoping someone here has some insight.

  3. different topic... not sure was posted or discussed.  Random thoughts from Torg...

    - is global warming / climate change really just the earths "flea dip" to the infestation known as human kind?

    - sound bite from that debate thing on broadcast TV... "do we save Miami?"  ... uhh... no to any part of "saving" a plots of land do to shifts in the global climate.

    - how is flat earth folks a thing?  How do these people decide this kinda thing?  I mean I'm interested.

  4. more prints - trying to find a good head size for my Bright Stallion conversion for my Eldar OFCC army.

    Unknown.jpeg.859731aa74b9fd88e68cb092c0e29616.jpeg

I wasn't sure what size would work best - so I scaled it up and printed choices...  Not sure what I will do with the extras yet.

    Unknown-1.jpeg.094cf13f8f58f7fb17971a8f1f8da925.jpeg

    Unknown-3.jpeg.542d413b4951878b6a231f9d01c712e4.jpeg

I think this one works best...  I love the detail on this resin print .05mm.  I may try it at .02, although I probably don't need it that high after I primer this one.

  5. hmmm great photos guys!  I will try to pick some of these colors up ... like vilkee stated earlier -... a few select project needed colors.  Specifically flesh tones - probably that cool black.  Maybe something else depending on my scheme for my murder clown OFCC list.  Anything to speed up the detail work would be nice.

  6. I'll look at that - I had them separate in other versions of this list.  I know what I need to build and paint now... so I am feeling much better.  I had had the Wraithknight with a sword and shield at one point... but in this version I went back to a big gun and shield.  I'm still not sure if that is optimal... but I had been thinking of spending 1CP for the lost shroud to the Knight - just to make it harder to remove. (lost shroud halves all damage as well as giving another 5+ FNP type of roll on top of the shield.   Either to the wraith knight or to the wraith seer... not sure which option is better or more annoying.

  9. hmmm I keep reading about some of the things I can do with the ynnari... and I think I really want the 2nd Ynnari character to keep the ability to have the extra ynnari stuff.  With the shadower as a ynnari ... I can get another phoenix power off (healing or resurrecting) to keep things from dropping easily.

I can make the Visarch my "great harlequin" from the RT era... and either use my old great harlequin figure or make a new conversion for it.  If I added non harlequin looking stuff (rangers or guardians) I would be doing more conversion / kit bashing lol.  I could - but I'm trying not to have too much work and painting to do.  LOL.  If it wasn't strictly OFCC list I may consider it.  but as it stands I don't play enough aside from OFCC lol.

  10. hmmm to move Yvraine I would need to replace her in the Supreme Command Detachment.  Currently, the Ynnari warlord power and relic is used in that detachment.  Warlord power to make the wraithseer even harder to put down.  And the relic gives the baron counts as some real bite in combat.

I could add the visarch in her place - moving her to the harlequin detachment... but I would need to come up with another 120pts.  Dropping the Hellions (they are there simply for ... nothing really lol).  I can drop a few bits and bobs I thew on here and there to use up some points.  Then something else ...not sure.

Probably one of the shard nets and the fusion gun on the autarch/ Baron counts as would get me there.

  11. Hey thanks for the things to think about.  I actually started rebuilding the list almost as soon as I posted it lol.  I did get some other comments about my plan elsewhere and came up with this 2nd take on the idea.  Although now I like that idea of getting Yvraine in the Harlequin detachment as well.  Anyhow, here is the second take on the list.  Again, comments are more than welcome!

  12. Ok - here is the crazy list I’m working on.  The premise is to rebuild / reimagine my old RT era Harlequin army list... with a few extras tossed in.  I also wanted to have a "dark-harlequin" list feel as well.   Anyhow, this is the list as it stands.  I am sure I have better options to get something like this with different a detachment make up - to get more CP's and all that.  Suggestions and comments are welcome.  This is ONLY a list for OFCC - it is not meant for GT's or ITC tourneys.  Just fluffy and fun and if possible somewhat competitive if that accidentally happens.

I was looking at ynnari but the character tax made what I was looking for impossible.  I do want a dark harlequin theme... so this is it currently.  It's kinda all over the place and it is exactly 2000pts currently.  After ditching the Ynnari portions I got more of what I wanted into the list - but I probably could refigure things to get a battalion out of the DE or the Harlequin detachments.  I will take another look at things tonight.  But I thought I would pop this up to see what ya'll suggest changing or ditching etc.  I have 95% of what I need to build this army (needing a few more wyches and venom to make it work).

  13. awesome crawler... where did you get that STL? (link?) (thingiverse?) 🙂  I have been working (slowly collecting) a Mechanicus force.

Resin - well its kinda messy - you need lots of support materials (latex gloves, alcohol wash, tanks for IPA wash and water wash... UV lights for curing, along with other items for cleaning up the plate and vat after printing lol.  But the payoff is very fine details for minis.  I specifically choose the Photon S because I wanted something for small items with fine details like miniatures for Epic and random miniatures for other games or just painting.

Operation isn't to bad - the software provided is clunky.  But there are options for free on the net - so not too bad in that arena.  Learning that your print is printing upside down on the build plate dipping into the vat - is a bit of an adjustment when building supports.  Because things can't start in the middle of space (like hanging fangs in a mouth of a dragon)  You have to think about all that a lot.  I know that dialing in things will take time.  I switched resins and it was almost like starting over.  lol  But their are several good support groups (Reddit and Facebook) specifically for Photon users.

Other than the basics of making sure the build plate is perfectly level (near perfect) and fine tuning the resin times - its fairly painless.  Prints take a long time (8-9hours is common for me).  but since everything happens at once in the layers - more things on the build plate doesn't slow things down.  The layers...(height of the build) in total make up the time.  And of course 0.05mm vs 0.02mm layer heights will be huge factors as well.

I held off on the first Photon because of the z-axis wobble issues... but then the Photon S came out with dual tracks for the Z axis support and I decided to jump in.  I had my hopes for a long time on the Prusa i3 Mk3... with finer nozzles.  But for half the price I picked up the Photon S... figuring later I could take a serious look at the Ender - and still be under the total cost of the Prusa.

I always ask my opponent before games what stratagems I really need to be aware of. Opponents know what their plan is and what stratagems they're likely to use. After they tell me what I need to know, I'll tell them what they should be aware of in my stratagem deck too. If your opponent is honest, it'll avoid those nasty gotcha moments that can happen to the unaware.

I typically run through my list with my opponent - explaining a few basics of what things can do what and pointing out what that model / mini is.  I play eldar and harlequins and sometimes they are hard to pick out particular minis that do that thing.  I also run through the weapons / wraith guard variants ... what a wraithseer can do... psychic powers as well.

Stratagems is a good thing to add to my list of things to discuss.  That is a good point!

After I run through my junk... and after looking through my opponents list and army - I ask questions about things in much the same vein that I went over my stuff.  I find that if I do mine first as part of my normal set up - it invites my opponent to reciprocate.

  15. I picked up the Anycubic Photon S a couple months ago now.  I have still just learning - but it is a very capable resin printer.  I have had some good prints - and some weird / bad prints.  Still getting my head around it of course.

Here is a photo from my last blog post ... the Epic scale Necron pylon and monoliths came out pretty will - along with some imperial bastions.

    necton-print_comparison.jpg?w=1478

    bastion_print-e1560137961250.jpg?w=1478

I'm still dialing in how to hollow out models, creating effective supports and fine tuning exposure times.  But for less than 500$ I thought it was well worth the investment in a new hobby lol.

I have my eye on an Ender down the road in a year perhaps...  for bigger prints, printing with different materials and less detail intensive prints. (terrain, parts for other projects).

There just seems to be a whole new layer of stuff I have to account for now. The sheer number of armies and what they can do is pretty daunting already. Units carry the special rules as opposed to a centralized list of them. With CPs, there's a whole library of cards that I feel like I have to know and plan for. I'm sure, most of the time, it isn't a big deal. But I've had experiences where the unknown completely ruins the game to put it bluntly. It goes from a fun contest to an exercise in removing models. That's probably why I have been playing more Bolt Action lately. The expectations of capabilities is fairly set. With 40K, I'm concerned with my overall lack of knowledge about today's landscape.

When it comes right down to it, if I have a choice between playing something I know and something I don't....well I pick what I know. Just a shame I have so many armies for a game I don't.

    😟

I fundementally agree with you on this point.  I've been struggling for 3 days to work out my OFCC list... just too many choices / options for me to weed through.  I have long since stopped caring about knowing everything about other armies back maybe 2-3 OFCC's ago lol.  I just plan for my army and lots of contingencies.  Knowing that sometimes I will be caught unprepared ... and probably get killed lol.

I'd rather play some of the other games I have gangs and factions for - but sometimes it is really just hard to find opponents.  I have been showing the young folks in my family how to play some mini games.  Trying to get them hooked on the hobby  - and not just 40k.  Typically smaller skirmish games they have an easier time grasping (Dark-Age and more of a favorite - Arena Rex)

  17. hmmm you have had time to make lists :).  Did you get to play with any of these yet?

I think it all boils down to what your trying to do ... fluffy vs tactically for your tastes.  I am assuming this is for OFCC correct?  I guess my first (ok 3rd) question is how do you want to play - I can see aspects with all these lists of play styles which aren't all the same.

I know my initial wraithwall list from last year was just pure wraith constructs.  It was tough but slow and purposeful.  I enjoyed playing the list but it took a bit to get things in place to really make it work.  It relied on being tough enough to get close - simply trudging forward.  I did have a hemlock and a wraith knight to be able to quick strike things - and to soak up my opponents fire.  The hemlock seemed to be scary ... and it was pretty survivable into the later rounds.  Especially if you paid attention to keeping it obscured whenever possible.  The Wraithknight I experimented with a few different builds - but in the end I ran it base... and tried to keep it obscured while running up to smash something before it was taken out due to mass fire.  I settled on the base build sometimes the sword build.  But even in my initial games with the list the wraith knight was target which never seemed to last long lol.  So I embraced that fact and ran it cheap and used it to soak up fire while the rest of my army got into the fight.

Most battles were close ... and the army seemed built for dragging out games to a draw or narrow decision.  Which is something I was ok with lol.
