  1. A darker blood soaked blade is the way I'd go. Black with dark metalic drybrush. Then run a line of red (I like foundation red) and whille its still tacky dab your finger across it. You'll get a smeared worn look with one or two go's.
  2. I always paint unbased. but then I use a putty to make custom brick bases soo... It does make playing with unpainted stuffs a pain, but I see that as a motivation. Its not been working too well lately lol
  3. I got the last one at albany target. Btw. does the other core set come with more upgrades? seems like I remember more.
  4. Everybody knows that the crybaby is totally twinked... and bound for the nerf bat soon. :P
  5. I should mention that I'd grown that mature from a young in the previous turn which allowed him to position for the charge on the next initiative.
  6. In a memorable game, an opponent had a picket line of 4 models (an austringer, lucius, and two guild riflemen) spaced out on a ridgeline (H5). They were overlooking the the scheme objective effectively making it impossible for me to complete. I ended up charging with a Mature nephalim, the first model was a guild rifleman, and I flipped a book so instead of beating to a bloody pulp, I flung the first rifleman off the ridge to his death below and charged the 2nd one. The second one took a pounding on the first attack and then on the 2nd got flung off the ridge as the Mature barreled past to the austringer I cheated a book so that I could get My hands on Lucius and since all his lacky's were in crumpled heaps at the bottom of the ridge when I my hands on lucius it was not pretty and ended up throwing him off the ridge leaving him with 1 wound and no friends nearby.
  7. Being the "Master of Malifaux" she doesn't need line of sight to declare charge actions or casting actions. And it makes her unaffected by sever and hazardous terrain. Its Good to be a native.
  8. Ahh. Yeah when looking at him next to basic rezzers he does loose a bit with his terror and the hard to wound doesn't seem as rare as it is throughout the rest of the factions. Mach's right, you do need the swampfiends to capitalize on his bury shenanigans. A spawn mother and some gups can also serve really well in that capacity. Cheap "disposable's" that you can unload ju ju out of is nasty. The folks on the receiving end of a Killjoy, or Betty bomb will attest to that. Also remember that it doesn't have to be a "friendly" Swampfiend for Ju Ju to use Mud Calling. @Mach: I'd forgotton to mention that wings was a "hench led" trick.
  9. I never seem to have the points/slot for talons, so I don't have alot of experience with it. I did take it recently (@ I can't believe its not walpalurgis) and it was pretty useful. but that was a 90-100 stone game so I had lots of misc points to spend. That being said its often in a game where I'd wished I could cheat a -flip so perhaps I should start taking that upgrade more often lol. As for Ju Ju. With eternal he is basically unkillable, And a leader (hench/master) that can come back from death is huge. Add flury for 3 of those 2/5/7 attacks with the trigger for paralyze. And to top it off throw Fears given form on him and models that begin an activation have to pass a def duel or take damage, and if they want to move/target ju ju they have to take a terror test (assuming living) Opponents start out at a -flip for damage against him and when he activates he regens 2 wounds. One other nasty little surprise give him On Dreaming Wings and surprise your opponents with flight. That's what makes him top 1-2 in henchmen and I was counting all factions not just within the neverborn. At small games (henchmen led) he is the top over nekima even.
  10. I wasn't po pooing Nekima. She's an awesome model (both model and stats). But for most every opponent you face, their first priority will be to take out nekima and that can be a very big blow at 14 stones. Especially if your "grow" shenanigans are centered around her. Thats why I usually run her with the BBS and then drop the grow upgrade for others. She'll get the same attention that a master will get, but she's more squishy than a master if that makes sense. All that being said, I'd say she and Bad Ju Ju are the tops in currently released henchmen. They are both closest to masters without actually being masters.
  11. Grow lists are a bit misleading. Its not about creating new models but upgrading the ones you have. Some of the things I have learned from playing a grow centric lilith list is if possible start with a young, and 2-3 tots. I generally don't run nekima as she is is an awesome model and usually the center of all attention even beyond lilith in many cases to the detriment of your list she's waaaay spendy but worh the stones in large games. I usually stick the grow upgrade onto barbaros along with his sword. The shaman will also spread your "Grow" influence bubbles out (though situationally). Also remember that you can toss victims around with barbaros and if they run into tots they get to "pounce". I tend to run hybrid grow lists now. I'll sometimes use just the Black Blood Shaman, or I'll run nekima (adjusting the starting neph's accordinly) along with other neverborn (usually non nephalim) models. In many games I've found if you get caught up in growing/raising troops, you'll end up running out of time to finish your scheme/strats. So enjoy exploring the grow lists but remember to keep an eye on your goals.
  12. I'd forgotten about Death Angel. Its alot of fun and is solo play optional as well. Death Angel is worth your duckets...
  13. Both Ascension and Star Realms have digital versions. They are also from the same designers and use basically the same rules with the difference being in Star realms you are trying to kill your opponent. In Ascension you are trying to get the most victory points (from collecting cards, and defeating monster cards in the trade row) Of the 2 I prefer ascension as it easily scales out from 2 players since you aren't directly attacking players there's no "pig in the middle" syndrome. The art is hit or miss with me as well. I got the year 1 box for 45 bucks. I look at the year 1/year 2 sets as big box board games that just happen to be deck builders. Its well worth getting those sets if you can find them for around 50ish Trains would also fit into this category. Sentinels is a great game also but alot more invloved. Its on my watch list for min market deal of the day.
  14. 1. as stated already no, not yet. But the trend is to release crew boxes (hoffmans just hit the streets bout 2-3 months ago) and then slowly release individuals from the crew boxes. I would expect hunters to have a box eventually, though you mayhave to wait a while (lotta models moving from metal to plastic still) 2. Yes. With the Big 2E rulebook you get the wave 1 arsenal rules, you have the wave 2. The only things you will be missin from now on are models released with the latest book and beyond. But as was stated when you buy those models you will get the cards. Also you may want to look at getting the general upgrades deck as it will have upgrades from wave one and I think even a few new ones perhaps. I didn't pay too close attention to the description from gencon. 3. The three eratta cards are Daestro, Franscisco Oretega, and Saemul Hopkins, and you should have the correct versions with your family and sonia box sets.
  15. Whoops looks like they changed it to unimpeded during the beta. But for the reasons mach and derk noted its a no no. There's been alot of exploration/clarification on the bury mechanics, especially once Tara hit the faux.
  16. Also if I remember correctly Death Marshals have "Intractible" which means they cannot be burried.
  17. that may have been it derk.
  18. When did they change the "Friendly" status of the Obey'd model mach? Last ruling I'd heard models under an Obey action are not considered "Friendly" to either crew while they take thier Obey action.
  19. Austringers were/are considered some of the best models in the game for acheiving strat's/schemes. I didn't want to "wave the banner" for them too much. Hounds? do you mean the Hunter? Cause the guild has "guild hounds" which are pretty cool too run in pairs. The lone Marshal was the other one I was thinking of, but the pale rider is cool too.
  20. I got one of the Mars mats and they are pretty neat. as derk said, the faux option makes all the deployment/schem/strat area outlined easily but unobtrusivly. I will say that the desert scap/wasteland mat is much better than the forest/jungle foliage mat derk got. That mat is a horrible image, its a blow-up of a lichen/moss bed I think. but if they took some different images the mats would be really usefull. Or perhaps its just the Faux lines that are usefull. lol I'd also look into some lazercut wood buildings. They make for nifty Old Westy type feel. And they've expanded to alot of other settings as well. Check out http://www.sarissa-precision.com/Old_West/cat1603369_2365906.aspx and http://knuckleduster.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_31_63
  21. The "Miss" Miss Anne Thorpe is a Wastrell (usually alligned with McCabe) The "Miss" models are female alternate sculpts for existing models that wyrd does specifically for GenCon purchase. They are a "gift" with purchase deal. This is the second guild miss, the first being a death marshal. Past models have been teddy, steamborg (lanston) and umm one more I think. You will be able to get Anne from folks that ordered but don't play guild for a limited window, That is if you really want a femal wastrell. The Death marshal is pretty cool but fits more of perdita's new style than the new death marshals. She would make a good addition to a perdiata crew astetically if you want a death marshal to go with on a mission. As Mach said, the rest were just early release stuffs. And they may have a few leftovers from the Conn in the webstore this week. At least thats what Nathan said in the newletter.
  22. Welcome to the guild. sounds like you've picked up solid choices for your initial crews. Some expanded models you'll want to consider are Austringers, wichling handler, abuela, and perhaps a heavy like the executioner or pale rider. And don't forget about the constructs. Watchers can be very useful for your snipers, and the peacekeeper is a total beast in combat while the guardian can help protect valuble targets.

    Starting up

The fate decks do really help put you in the world. My Favorite deck at the moment is the 2012 walpalurgis deck. Its got the old tyme'y astetic to it. I really like the backs of that deck. (ps if anyone has an extra I'm looking to aquire more than one) The newer plastic cards are awesome, they last forever barring some outside damage. Poker card technology has advanced signifigantly in the past 10 years since the popularity boom of poker thanks to TV. So Good for us we get the benifit of an industry that is very hard on cards. Also if you missed out on anything that will be a way later release, I just heard that Wyrd will have some leftovers from the conn into the webstore this week.
