  1. "M'lord, astropath transmission received, designation omega black." intoned the page. The effort was noticeable as he waited for the command to continue. "Very well, Helios, out with it." "M'lord, we have been requested by House Raven to go to the Fanaticus sector. There have been reports of xenos infestation, as well as 'multiple' chaos incursions. As the closest noble house, we have been asked to make haste and retrieve any and all information from the heretics.....sir." Lord Glacius contemplated. House Raven is desperate to find any information as to the location of Kolossi. As if chasing down every heretic in the galaxy is going to magically reveal what happened to that world. Still, they are heretics. And having House Raven in debt to them could prove useful. "Page! Have the astopaths send the following....'House Glacius is most honored to respond to the noble House Raven's request. For the Emperor and the blessings of the Omnissiah. Lord Avros.' " "Oh, and Helios....ready the hounds....we go to war."
  2. Not to get too stuck in with the side topic, but my point is why are you forced to have three units of 30 boyz in the first place? At 1000pts, you need three troop units for the eventual battalion detachment. But until then, a patrol will do fine in which case you only need one unit. And even that is false as you can go with a unit of grotz for cheap objective holding. So my end point is, you are choosing to spend 45PL on three full units of boyz when you are not forced to. Hence, the PL really isn't that bad. Heck, 10 boyz and a trukk is only 9 PL. That is where I am confused. You have more options than just 90 boyz.
  3. Just FYI, PL for boyz is actually 15 for 30. Although I'm not sure I understand why you would be stuck with 90 boyz? You only need one troops for patrol. I'm sure you could fill out 1000pt or 50PL inside of that detachment. https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/wRzHkacP0NPxYL3d.pdf
  4. No one gets free warlord traits in Crusade, but yeah, I need to pay an extra RP to give the <Character> keyword to a model. I think my army is just going to be hurting for CP in some of the early games, but later on it won't be such an issue.
  5. I have some questions on how to fill out an Imperial Knight Crusade Roster. Right off the bat, are Armigers grouped together in a single unit card, or do they each get their own unit card? I thought I had read somewhere that they each get their own unit card, but I haven't found it again. Where this becomes really important are the games after 500pts. The armiger units max out at 3 models, so under 500pts. So once we hit games of 750+, I'll need to go from a super heavy aux detachment to a super heavy detachment. The crux of the issue is that we now are going from 1 unit to minimum of three. So if I started with a unit of 3 armigers in a SHA, in order to add more units, I have to switch to a SH detachment and now need 3 separate units. Ah, okay, I found it, it is under Split units. Basically, the armigers don't stay together after deployment, so each one will have its own card. That being said, if you choose a split unit for your army, you have to field the whole thing. So if I make a single unit of 3 armigers, then at 750pts...I guess I have to purchase a second SHA, and due to only have 2 armigers in that detachment, I'd end up with zero CP to start with. 3 for the first SHA, but +3 CP for having my warlord in it...and then another 3 CP for the second SHA... Does that sound right? The other option is to have each armiger its own unit from the start and simply go SH detachment to fill out all three slots. Hmmm, not ideal, but workable.
  6. @Salty MonkeyAs to the CP levels, I thought that 1000pts typically had 6cps and it wasn't until 2000 that you started with 12. I just think that maybe 12 CPs at 1000pts might be too many. Just my opinion though.
  7. Hence the reason I posted the info. I have zero experience with knights with any edition. I don't know how they play in 9th. I know at the 500pt level, I basically will have 3 small guys as that will be my only chance to contest and take objectives. If people think knights don't work in crusade, then I can go with a different army.
  8. As a new 9th ed 40K player, the only thing I can say that I'm worried about is running into competitive meta. I've been watching a bunch of games on youtube and that is the only thing that really makes me apprehensive. I know that its a very opinionated topic right? And I don't want to push my playstyle on anyone else. I just know that from what I have seen so far of competitive games, that army composition does not appeal to me at all. So I guess all I can ask is if that is the direction you are taking your army, find an opponent that is doing likewise. I'm switching from necrons to knights because I'd have to build and paint way too much of my necrons for them to be better. I also have no idea how the knights will play yet. But I have them painted. I just wanted to give ppl heads up.
  9. Thanks. After last night, I thought we were jumping right into 1000pt games which meant I would build my list entirely different. But now I need to make sure I can field a valid 500pt force. Decisions, decisions....
  10. My poor necrons got trounced. And they should have as pretty much everything was against them. But I did learn some things and also learned that I need to learn more rules. Wow, 9th edition seems to be very poorly written. What really surprised me was how different it seemed than lots of the battlereports I have watched. Especially around melee. I knew AoS had this "pick a unit" style combat where you could pick a unit engaged wherever and do their fight....but I swear I have not seen that in any of the 40K BRs I've watched. And yet, apparently that is how you do melee now. Just pick a model you want to fight (after all chargers have gone) regardless of the melee. Weird.
  11. you don't have to, I own the book, I'm just railing about the fact that so much of the info in it is no longer valid.
  12. I think the warmachine Khador red scheme would probably look really good for the LoV.
  13. So trying to prepare a list, and was wondering what I needed to look at. I have found the following: Munitorium Field Manual Update Mark II - this seems to be the latest point changes. So if we use points, use this. Power Rating Update - Same as above but for PL instead. Balance Dataslate Update - this says for matched play, but was curious if we are using it as well. Also, is there any reason to get the freaking books? I mean honestly...they don't seem to be all that valid anymore.
  14. And then more questions surrounding melee. Is this how most people play? First thing you do is pile in. As crazy as this sounds, it seems like it is best not to touch enemy models. A) you don't have to, B) it limits pile in and consolidate moves. For example, you charge and get into engagement range. Yay. You pick your unit to fight, it piles in. The rules say you must move closer to the closest model. If I move a model up, but not actually touching an enemy model, this gives me some options to move around an enemy model as long as I end up closer in the end. Sorry, my brain just works like this, not trying to rules lawyer here or anything...but to be specific, I have my model within 1" of enemy model A. When I pile in, I can move my model 3" around model A as long as I end up closer than 1" away from it. The reason is, this allows front models some leeway to move aside so that more back models can get in range. Fight occurs, enemy models are removed. Pile in - now since I'm not touching enemy models, my models get to swoosh around again 3" as long as they get a little closer to the closest enemy model. Once I touch an enemy model, then I'm stuck there can not allowed to move. That being said, it might not be good to pile in as that could bring more enemy models into range to fight. So depending on the situation, it might be better not to consolidate. Does all that sound right?
  15. wha huh? I thought you had to dedicate an attack with a weapon in order to get its special rule. So in the above example, wouldn't you have to allocate 3 attacks to the 2 for 1 weapon, and then 1 attack to the 1 additional weapon. That would mean 6 attacks of one type, and then two attacks of the other. Because those are conditional statements "when you...." meaning, if you don't use that weapon, you don't get that rule. Or at least that is how I read it.
  16. I think I have settled on my necrons. First off, I actually have an army painted that I took to an OFCC once. So that gives me a good base of models. I also have collected more stuff for them since 9th came out and have new cool things that need to be painted. Also, since I have not played 9th yet, it seems like this could be a forgiving army. Step 1 is now done. Now I gotta choose which faction to run, or make my own.
  17. So I just want to be clear on the melee rules. When you have a model with multiple attacks, and with multiple melee weapons, you have to choose how many attacks with each weapon correct? If a weapon has a rule that grants additional attacks, does that apply to each attack given to that weapon, or just once? For instance, the rule: each time an attack is made with this weapon, make 2 hit rolls instead of 1 - this seems to say that if I have 4 attacks normally, and I make 4 attacks with this weapon, I'm going to get 8 rolls. This rule: each time the bearer fights, it makes 1 additional attack with this weapon - this says to me that if I made 4 attacks using this weapon, I get one extra only, for a total of 5. Is the above correct?
  18. Hmmm still trying to decide on which army to go with. I would probably say that Necrons are probably towards the top of the list simply because I have quite a bit painted and with this edition, some new units to paint up. That being said, I'm spoiled with choice, so if there is an army that people would want to go up against, feel free to suggest it. I've dropped CSM and Orks from my list as they are already represented.
  19. Looking for a combat patrol for orks. I mostly am interested in the boyz and warboss, but I can always use more choppers and another dread is super cool too. Have lots to trade, but also willing to buy. PM if you have something.
  20. So basically I need to be able to create a valid battleforged force out of 1000pts. I need to look up CPs and such. I haven't ever made an army in 9th yet.
  21. Yeah, I am a bit intimidated by 9th edition. I am trying to give it a shot and will hopefully be able to join the Crusade next week. I simply have too much invested in 40K to completely give up on it. 🙂 I was really just curious what others thought of the new army based on previews so far and if they were interested. I'd really love to here the why's or why not's. Been a while since GW released a new army. A little surprised at the lack of posts about it honestly, but then ordo forum is much slower now.
  22. I'm kinda torn actually. I mean I've been wanting squats back since 3rd edition. That being said, I'm not quite sure I'm sold on the new version of them. They don't seem very squat. But everything has gotten bigger in GW games. Hell, a plastic beaky from RT days probably is smaller than the new squats. The rules seem....inter-broken-esting..? maybe? My inner geek is yelling at me telling me how much of a phony I am if I don't get them. But my angel/wife on my shoulder is pointing at the heaps of models I already own for a game I really haven't even played yet. And for once in my life, the cost really isn't an issue. Ugh...why is adulting so hard?
