  1. I want to want them. I want to buy several boxes, and proudly run terror stealth troops. I think GW must realize that they suck, because people don't buy them. I really like all of the suggestions here... My ideas; Stealth deployment free, combat knife automatically part of their kit, carbine becomes assault 2, -1LD tests and -1 Combat Attrition tests... Lastly, and most importantly, the Sgt needs access to an upgraded weapon, like intercessors get. You need that extra punch. If they don't get that, they need something awesome, like their CC attacks auto-wound on 6's, just so they can put wounds on high toughness things. Otherwise, they are just out classed for the slot. I'd also love to see them be moved to troops, but that's not going to happen. FA would be fine too.
  2. I considered the possibility of them moving it to Heavy Support. I am not sure how it's much different than a Repulsor Executioner in battlefield impact. (Overall, I'd say it's weaker) They have a similar cost, aside from the 3CP. We'll see. I was chatting about hoping for revisions to Reivers, speculating on blade guard vets, and the relative comparison to the impact of an Invictor or Aggressors. Basically, this time of not knowing is sort of difficult, but it spawns good conversations. The Elite slot for Primaris armies is crowded.
  3. The Imperial Knights faction focus was pretty low on info. It told me that fielding my Wraith Knight will cost me 3CP in addition to it's questionable points cost. I say questionable because I can field a lot more fire power with grav tanks or fliers, for the same points. The addition of the 3CP tax will mean that it's just put in for friendly games. Since I mostly play friendly games, that's not an issue, but it's still over costed.
  4. I'm going to be all about Combat Patrol. I want to start small like that for Crusade, and slowly build.
  5. For sure.... The Yncarne adds zero to my Wraith list. I am looking forward at an expansion into some Ynnari territory down the road. I might just try it in chrome, that's a pretty solid idea. I may prime her white, so the colors pop a bit better. I could test out colored washes over the chrome to give that rainbow effect. Not sure. I may just punt on this one, and finish the other stuff first. It's hard not to lose sight of the goal... Get the wraith host painted! I am going to buckle down. Wraith host first, then the other stuff. 🙂
  6. Getting modeling done... The other 2 characters in the Triumverate box are less likely to see battle for me, so I started with Yvraine. Why did her hair need to be 3 pieces? Wtf GW... Visarch will be easy to model, so I'll do him up. I am debating leaving the Ycarne on the sprue for a while. Not sure how I'd paint it anyway.
  7. I broke my rule, and bought more models... Picked of a Fire Prism/Nightspinner kit, Eldrad, and the Triumvirate of Ynnead. I guess I added some painting to my queue. I'm still trying to get this all mostly done during the summer, before I go back to teaching in the fall. Shouldn't be a problem, but I also wanted to start a Kill Team and Combat Patrol for the Mortifactors. I guess I need to stop dilly dallying around, and paint!
  8. Pretty close to done. I might change the sword from a "wraithbone" sword to a proper power sword. Not sure yet.
  9. I watched a Battle Report where he played Farsight Enclave, and it was pretty rad. He rolled forward, did a ton of shooting with solid buffs from the Enclave tactic. Then, he charged with a couple things, but mostly waited to get charged. Then the whole overwatch thing went off. I think you can play them as long range shooters, but with a smaller board, you'll want to get familiar with different strategies. It seems like the style you describe is exactly what is enabled by Farsight.
  10. I agree with you Ish. (I tend to be doing that a lot in this thread...) Scars can get into combat on turn 1 with the Advance + Charge ability. So, that's pretty huge. It'll be all about the tailored tool for the job. Interesting new Tau info from the 40k Daily show with Stu Black. For the Greater Good lets Tau shoot Overwatch for free across the army. So they will be blasting assaulters just like always. Can't say I'm disappointed. My wife plays Tau, and I didn't want her army to be nerfed, selfishly. Happy wife, happy life, and all that. lol.
  11. I "finished" the Rangers yesterday. I will likely go back with fresh eyes and do some clean up and top highlights. I tend to do that before sealing or varnishing anything. I'm done with infantry units. 10 Wraith Guard, 10 Wraith Blades, 10 Rangers, 5 Dire Avengers. The Wraiths aren't very converted. Rangers are heavily converted from Dark Elf Corsairs, Guardians, and 3d printed bits. The DA are pretty basic, but with head swaps. I'm happy with them. Next up is the character cadre. Spiritseer was on hand, so I grabbed him and got going. Here is the base coat, and a couple experiments. I like the highlights on the robe, near the legs. Those are first pass highlights. I'll be doing more. The head, staff and sword are just base coats, washed in 50/50 white contrast and mixing medium. I went back through and cleaned it up. The actual experiment was with the cloth streamers, and the runes on his chest, etc. I painted them Heavy Charcoal Vallejo paint. I then lined it with Cold Grey Vallejo. I like it, I think. I may add a lighter highlight on the corners and tips. I didn't want to do these in white, or in purple. I think charcoal and grey makes them visible, but not the absolute focus of attention. The center gem on his chest is going to be green. WIP - finishing today, I hope. I'll update this thread when I finish it.
  12. The differences are certainly nuanced, and both units have points in their favor. The deployment and having an assault 2 gun in really solid for the Reivers. Intercessors have 2 huge boons in my book; Troops, and Intercessor Sgts can take fists/hammers. (Theoretically) To me, having a big damage Sgt is really big. There is the running commentary from Stu Black something like "Asartes Chainswords are better than normal chainswords," with the insinuation that they will have 1 Ap, or some other small bonus. That is pretty good too, because it buffs all of their CC attacks. To me, the tipping point is the Veteran Intercessor strategem, assuming it exists in 9th. Adding the extra CC attack makes these guys resource intensive, but super solid. Once we get the rules, I think there will be a real comparison to be made. No, I don't think there will be one right answer, but I do think the Intercessors will be default due to their Troop designation. You have to take Troops*, and these are the CC option. 3 Squads of 10 running at you is a threat. If you focus fire, then you're ignoring the big guns, which will be a problem in the long term. I think Reivers will be like they are now, a niche pick. The problem is, they will be competing for a slot against Bladeguard Vets, which are the new hotness, Elite as well, and CC specialists. That will be Reivers even more of a corner case. The CC advance deployment guys that compete with a the Invictor for being that early advance deployment threat. My wish? (Yeah, nobody asked, but I'll say it anyway) I want a Phobos Troops choice, even if I have to pay CP, or something like that. *not really, but it's the path of least resistance
  13. I was looking at Reivers the other day, because I like the models. I was comparing them to the hypothetical stats of the Assault Intercessors. (Clearly it's just a though exercise.) It seems like the the Reivers had little to offer, and had no business being in the Elite slots. If they penalize morale and attrition, it might be a new consideration.
  14. I like the new Morale also. It clearly benefits small squads, but that seems ok. They are just wiped before morale kills them.
  15. I'm going to have everything in this army faceless. Maybe a gloss visor would help with a finished look. I also had the suggestion of black liner on the rim of the helmet. I might give that a shot on one of the next group. If I like it, it wouldn't be tough to replicate
  16. True enough. I kind of threw tactical logic out the window with my chrome camo cloaks. I am certainly going to do gloss varnish on things like soul stones. It might make the helmets pop. I'll have to do one as a test, then see if it looks good.
  17. I haven't done a sealant. I haven't decided if I want to do gloss on the masks. I am going to do gloss on the chrome cloaks, for sure. I might end up brushing it on. If I do gloss masks, I'll want to do it army wide. Hmmm...
  18. This is how they going to be... for now. I did a glaze of green to soften that extreme highlight. I also mixed a little darker purple with the highlight color to mute it a little, since they are rangers. Now I will do the other 5, having done the experimentation on these ones. That'll be 2 squads of my required 3. Not bad.
  19. I was plotting something like that for the up coming Mortifactors project. Besides, Invictors look really cool.
  20. The "too many to kill" strategy is valid. I am going to be including Blast in my list, for just that reason. Now, I don't think it's going to work perfectly, but it will help. I always try to check the boxes; kill hordes, kill tanks, hold objectives, wreckingball unit, distraction carnifex. It seems like there might be some new considerations, like mobility.
  21. My Eldar should have little problem zooming shooty tanks to the different quadrants, and delivering dakka from there while earning some VP. That's nice. This is going to be tough for foot slogging armies.
  22. I considered trying for an oil slick look, with many colors of ink, then I decided that I have ten to paint, and that would take forever. I was surprised that the chrome paint worked.
  23. Ranger experiment time... In shadowrun, the stealth cloaks are actually chrome, light refractors. So i decided to try that on my rangers. I got some chrome paint off amazon. it's used on car models, for chrome pieces. It's supposed to be for an air brush, but I used it with a brush. It kind of looks white, because I am holding it up to reflect light. It's chrome paint with black wash over top of them. I need to do a little more work on the shadowing, and on the highlights. The cloak is dark green. I need to highlight it. This is very proto...
