Finished this step. I have the models glued together for priming black. The bits in the bag will be primed white. I put the large "stones" on the bases before priming so i can paint them later. I'll add the black lava and crystals after all of that. I normally like to do basing all at the end, but I decided I wanted this stuff primed, so it had to be done in stages. I went into Guardian today and picked up one of those GW paint handles with the arms and clips for holding models together while glue sets. It's already proved invaluable. It's probably hard to tell, but I did some arm customization. I cut some of them at the elbow join and turned it a little. I want the shimmer shields to face out, rather than be to the side. There are a few subtle stance changes, which caused a little havoc at the hips. All in all, I'm happy with this. I have never messed with priming 2 different colors, so we'll see how much I regret that... Next up... Prime black/white, finish assembling, then move to my spirit seer, farseer, and bone seer. I got a little done today, but most importantly, i don't have to work on monday. The wife said "maybe we can work on models all day like total nerds." That was music to my ears. I dropped by Dice Age to pick up some paints, and models for her Tau force. I sure can't wait until I can actually go and browse. Rumor has it you can do that in Portland. A friend texted me a picture from *gasp* inside Guardian Games. I guess I can browse and impulse buy some cool models. I'm good at that. lol. I did something super important... I went through all of my paints, checked for dead ones, and tossed them out. I was surprised at the amount that were still good. It's been 3 years since I painted anything, so that was nice to see.. I can't find my mixing medium. Anyone have a recommendation for an additive to "sort of" thick-ish paints?

Nice! Maybe I'll give them a closer look... although I did buy the bits to make my own snipers. lol

I've been dragging my feet a little, because we're waiting for my wife's models to come in. We like to craft together, so I'm not rushing just yet. Last night we got a little done. She's working on her Tau army, starting with a Coldstar Commander. While she modeled that up, I worked on my Wraithguard and Wraithblades. I started with 1, and then did methodical builds on the rest. I'm not quite done yet. I'm priming the bodies black, and the heads, guns, and melee weapons white. They were out of white primer, and I'm waiting for a little bit more basing material, so I'm just getting things slowly rolling. This is specimen alpha, my first model of the new army. I'm going to give him something special on his base or maybe paint, to designate his prototype status. I always do things like that. It's more of an inside joke for myself. I'm going to be doing a rocky cooled lava style base, with green translucent crystals for contrast. I'll be painting green gems on the chests of the wraiths, etc. Eldar love gems. (I'll be modeling everything on the base except the crystals, and then priming. That shale will get painted to a dark basalt look.) I'll post more after Friday, when our models come in, and my wife gets her stuff. 🙂

You guys are selling me on those expensive brushes. Ha! I just cleaned out my old nasty collection, and I was able to salvage a few nice ones. I tossed at least 12 brushes, and kept about 10. I guess I'll get a couple nice ones, and then a pack of cheap synthetics. That seems like the best move.

I got some stuff in the mail. Obviously I want the codex for the art, etc. I use battle scribe for lists, but I like to have physical books, and cards too... I'm going to use the Delaque Gang for a couple things. I hoping to use some of their bits in my kit-bash rangers. I'm also planning to assemble these guys up for use in Kill Team. I was considering using these guys as the basis for Rangers, and adding some eldar bits, but I'm not sure. Anyone have an opinion? Guardian bodies + various bits added in, or Delaque bodies + bits? I loe their long coats, and grim style. Wraiths are grim right? lol

I dig those Eldar drawings. What book is that in? And, my obligatory picture...

I busted out my old hobby box and started inspecting my brushes. I have some nice ones, but also tons of garbage. I need to clean the good ones, and mothball the others for dirty work. Does anyone have any recommendations for brush cleaner? I'm also interested in getting some new brushes. Any recommendations on good brushes that aren't super expensive? I've had good luck with citadel, army painter, and generic craft store clearance brushes. (If it matters, I'm using a combo of Citadel, Vallejo, and P3 paints.)

Hey Guys, I decided that I needed to do a new army. It's been a hot minute since I was active in the scene, but my wife and I decided to both start new forces, and this seems like a good spot to document my progress. (I'll see if she feels like doing the same.) Initially I was going to do another Imperial Army, since I have marine, and a detachment of guard, but I decided to take a hard right on that, and go xenos. I've loved wraith models for a long time, and I don't really care that they aren't uber competitive. I'm fine with being merely ok in that regard. Cool models > cool rules imo. Plan: I plan to do a purple and cream color scheme, with some free hand "webway" effects on larger models, particularly vehicle. (It's hard to describe, but it's an effect from a Squidmar youtube vid) Dire Avengers will be used as base troopers, with helmet swaps to some cool ones I found online. I'll post pics when they get here. I will also be converting up some custom Rangers, using guardian bits, helmets and rifles from a 3d printer/modeler guy. Again, I'll post pics. I plan to convert the 2 Wraithlords from the Apoc box into Wraithseers, because I think they're really rad. I'm not really focused on list-hammer in this thread, so I'll just leave it at that. Basing is going to be an dark rocky planet with green crystals jutting up from the ground. The gems in the wraiths will match the translucent basing, to tie it together. I think it should be cool and work with the purple/white scheme. I will do some test bases and model, just to make sure. This picture is of the models I have thus far. I have another order out from Dice Age, my local shop. I have a third wave order I need to place once I get into this stuff. I'm going to post progress pics as I go through the process of modeling, converting, painting, etc. Let me know if you have ideas for cool conversions, etc. -David

Hey guys, It's been a hot minute since I lurked around Ordo, or played 40k much. Well, it's time to dust off the old models, and start up some new ones. I decided I'd like to get into some elite bad boys, and I figured I'd see if anyone has some sprues hanging around that they want to sell. WTB - Prefer on sprue or in box, but assembled is acceptable. Prefer not primed, but lightly primed can be worked with. Custodian Guard Squad x3 boxes Custodian Wardens x2 boxes Vertus Praetors x1 box FW Tanks, Transports, Dreads, etc Stormcast Judicator Head bits (many) - I'm looking to do a headswap, and I think these will go quite well, matching the lighting theme, etc. I just need the masked heads, because I can't stand cone heads or ponytails. I'm willing to pay cash, or paypal and get it shipped. Given the current situation, that's likely best. I also have a bunch of Warmachine, Khador and Mercs. I think I also have some Hordes Skorn hanging around too. Hit me up. I'm looking to get some Killteam games in, just to have some quick fun after this stuff is over. Then work up to some full on 40k games. I'm likely going to come to OFCC just to see the armies and people. I've played a several, but it's a little late at this point. lol... I'm liking everything I am hearing so far. I really do like the 90 minute goal, for games. If I want a 3-4 hour game, I'll field more models, and have lots of beers. :)

For sure. I wouldn't mind working on some CR-fu with you. :) I am pretty novice with the rules, but 5 games in a row with pros helped me get a good start. lol

Updated. Lowered the price. If i list it on ebay, I will pay 10% anyway, so i might as well try here first with a lower price.

This year was my first year playing in the OFCC: Fantasy. I was a 40k Captain the previous year, but I figured it was time for a change. Herozero hooked me up with some models, and I bought more stuff that I thought was cool, then painted it all up. My sole motivation was cool looking models... So, I played 4 games of Fantasy before the tournament, and just dove into it. All of my opponents were really cool dudes, with great attitudes. Everyone was awesome, helping me out with rules and strategy. I think the community for Fantasy is my favorite part of it all. Everyone was chilled out and acted like adults. I like that a lot. On to my army. I posted a picture below, just because. I went with an iron and bronze theme, because I like semi-realistic themes. I also painted the horses natural colors, for the same reason. As a general rule, I enjoy quality over quantity. I don't like batch painting junky troopers that die in droves. So I went with a mostly cavalry army. I love the models for Knights, so I got a few boxes. I kitbashed my characters from those boxes, skullcrusher bits, and stuff I got from Ed. It turned out alright. I feel like I got about an 80% paintjob done. I could do more, with more time. That brings me to thoughts of the future... I am going to really get it done right for next year. I have already started working on some of my models that turned out merely mediocre. Mechanically speaking, there were a few things that just drove me nuts about Fantasy, so I am seeking input on improvements. It drives me *nuts* when my knights charge a unit, kill some guys, take almost no wounds, but still lose combat. 2 out of 5 games, my knights killed more guys than my opponent, but lost, failed leadership, then got run down and killed. It seems super bogus that I take no wounds in a fight, but run away and die. Ok, enough griping... I am thinking that a hero with a Crown of Command is in order, since that brick of 10 knights is kind of the center of the army. They are my favorite models, so I need to find a way to make them work. I considered Mark of Slaanesh, then a hero with the Pendant. That wouldn't give Stubborn, but a single dice ought to give me similar odds. I also considered the banner than gives bonus leadership. A BSB in the squad is a given, even though the rerolls didn't save me last time. Thoughts on how I can get my knights to stick around? What is the community consensus on marks? I only talk to Ed/Herozero about Fantasy, so I am curious what everyone else thinks. I ran a 50/50 Khorne/Nurgle list in OFCC, but I was thinking it would be cool to have an army with all of the marks. None of my units have a paint job that forces them to be one mark or another. Of course, my skullcrushers are khorny. :) This might sound odd, but I think all of the gods are cool, and I have a tough time deciding on one thing. Would it be considered lame if I represented all of them? If that's cool, I have some fun ideas. If not, I will figure it out. Leaning toward Slaanesh if I have to pick only one. I hope there are allies in 9th, so I could ally in some DE cultist guys. Seems cool... I am looking for a "centerpiece" type model for next year. I am not planning to run the Manticore Lord, due to being a bit under-performing for the points spent. The mount got killed pretty much every game. So, I am planning on running a Demon Prince. I think it's a pretty cool chance for a big centerpiece model. Does anyone have any ideas for a cool non-standard model? My favorite model in my army is my reaper looking sorcerer. I dig the death theme. I wouldn't mind that kind of thing for a DP model. Please post any links to third part models, ideas, or conversions. Thanks for any thoughts, input, or commentary on WoC or anything I said here. Anything helps.
