  1.  Yeah,,you can give the chosen "model" a command  trait,,also those traits are in effect all the time,,it doesnt replace the Inspiring Presence default trait they are given.I point this out as some have thought that they acted like it was a command ability( I did at first as well, heh).

For Death,,ive seen a Vamp Lord on Dragon usually made the General so they can do the Red thrist ability,,or whatever one gives them the additional attacks on exploding dice thing,,dont rem off hand what that is but something like that.Or they use Setra for his command ability.

So, is it just that it's a bad idea, or is there actually a rule against having a non-hero General? OFCC or otherwise...And if it is banned, is there a balance issue(?), or is it just banned for the sake of banning it?

If wondering, the idea would be to run a Morghast Harbinger or Morghast Archai as my General. They come in units of 2 models, so it would be hardly different running a General-hero as unit of 1. Profile-wise, they are strong melee units with good mobility and a profile to suggest that they are non-monster heroes (240pts per unit of 2). For points, that's probably one of the better General options in terms of abilities for the Death faction, without taking incredibly OP (and point draining) units (like Nagash, Neferata, or Mannfred). Arkhan is decent, but I think he's better spent not being the General.

EDIT: Looking through that OFCC AoS info from the other thread. Looks like, for OFCC, *any* model in my army can be my general. Might still be a bad idea, but seems to be legal. (if this isn't intended to be the legal for the OFCC, please contact me ASAP)

Since it was never specified that an army General must be a Hero you can go ahead and choose any model to be your General. For the Death faction and most all other armies that have yet to get Battletomes,,its certainly a viable option. The things that make choosing a unit champ or rank and flie model in a unit unfavorable are mostly releated to the abilities and artifacts that are available to armies allegiances that have Battletomes, alot of those are only usable on heros,,and the matter that,in matched play,an army general has no point value for being killed at all,and has no objectives attatched to them.Ive only heared of one competative army build that uses a rank and file unit general and that was last year,,an ogre army I think it was,in most all cases a hero general is usually a better choice due to the ability to give them an artifact.

One thing to note about this, even though the matched play rules state to choose a "unit" to be your General,,you must then choose a model from that unit to be your General as per the 4 page base rules.A unit of 40 infantry do NOT count as a players General. So abilties given to the General in cases were they are embeded in a unit only apply the the model chosen to be the General.

Im sure there are event comps that require a Hero to be the General,we just didnt go that route with OFCC,,no biggie though, build and play whats fun:)

  3.  I know this isint for the tournament crowd, but I really like what they are doing here.

This deck system is a great way to start a pick up game even when using points, though they describe using PL difference as a factor in determining who gets underdog bonuses..I imagine it would still work that way even though the armies were balanced with points.Either way,,great addition for the casual players and hope it makes its way into AoS soon:)

Oh, Death faction has a command ability which either adds +1 cast and unbinding to wizards, or for non-wizards, makes them wizards with Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield. Does not mention spell or unbinding attempts per turn, so is there a general FAQ that states the number allowed it if it fails to mention this in the text? This can't be an unique issue to the death faction.

That ability would allow one cast attempt per turn and one unbind attempt per turn.Basically its one each unless otherwise specified.

For OFCC and pretty much any formal events,,only Heros can be your General. Now I know that early in the game, duiring the first year or so,,running with a unit champ as your General was a thing,,ive done it with NG`s.However its not seen much anylonger as I believe there are more spells and abilities that can target models within units now,,not really sure though.

As for OFCC this year being "Hard" for AoS,,well we did go with a more competative slant to it in order to entice more players being since most seem to want competative events.I think though for the most part there may be a few face stomp lists but for the most part I think everyone will be rather middling. Also keep in mind that some of us have been playing alot while others(like yourself) havent gotten much time to, so list build may not play into the overall results as much as just outright experience with the game and how your army performs against other matchups.

  5. "Wait, did you say Death Guard?
We did. The Plague Legions of Nurgle are getting their own book to represent the fact that their way of war is substantially different from that of most Traitor Legions, as is the range of miniatures you can choose to use in your Death Guard army. "

Been list building for the DG the past few days,,indeed they are different than most any marine list(Chaos or imp) .Footslogging plus buff and nerf casting, army wide resiliance save with regrowing units.Very much in the vein of Death AoS armies in ,im liking it very much though as this will present some great challenges for both DG players and their opponents:)

Oh and the easy and cheap summoning of fodder units,,theres that too..

Hmm...okay, looked up the logistic based on the linked address above and the times. Looks like I can actually get there on public transit. Takes a few hours, but doable.

What time does this thing get out at the end of each day? A guess is fine.

Saturday should be around 7:00 wrap up..possibly earlier though depends on how much of a break  players want to do for lunch or dinner.

Sundays im hoping to be wrapped up by no later than 5:00,,though I believe there is a ceremony afterwards,,not sure on that though.

  7. Got a few questions from the tournament yesterday in Sherwood.

The main one  that came up a few times is having to do with consolidation at the end of a units fight phase. If an opponent has been wiped out does the unit that finished them off get to consolidate as per the final step in the combat phase rules?..and if so could the "nearest enemy model" be several inches or even feet away?.Seems rather screwey but,on the surface, thats what the rule looks like to me.I was told though that if a unit gets wiped, the attacking unit that finidhed them off doesnt get to consolidate,,,I dont see were that comes from though.

    Awesome. Thank you so much.

One question I don't see, any cap on reinforcement points? Or rather, Can I bring a 1k army that plans to summon 1k of replacement units (models taken from the deceased).

Yes,,you can start with the bare minimums on the field,,in this case 3 Battleline and a hero and summon the remainder of your forces up to the 2000 pt level. In this example your army list would just show a Wizard and the Three Battleline units with the rest of the points "in reserve" with no need at all to show what you might summon:)

Oh,,and be sure to choose a terrain warscroll that has a +1 to casting attempts and use that as your terrain piece.

  10. Everyone is using base to base measuring now,,consider it the meta wide house rule. That would be the bases that came with the models when they were purchased.

The only issues ive seen with this has been with the TK chariot models,,as a rule around here you can use the rectangles as they have yet to be reboxed.Though Ive heared of events elsewere were they forced those models onto the larger ovals as the Setra formation really gain alot more power with the models on the older rectangles.

I would personally be ok with larger monsters like seraphon dinos and other similar 4 legged models being off base though,,kinda like vehicles are in 40k:)

  11.   Ok,,here goes---

"Army point limits will be 2000 points with an optional 500 point sideboard.

All armies must be fully painted to a three-color minimum (not counting primer),

    and based.

Players are encouraged to bring one piece of Age of Sigmar terrain to use in each

of their battles. The terrain piece can be any that currently has a warscoll listed for use in

AoS. Summoned terrain that has a point cost is not included as the "one allowed" terrain

piece. Armies who come standard with a terrain piece, i.e Sylvanneth and Guardians of

the Realm Gate, count that piece as their “one allowed.”

In keeping with the spirit of OFCC and support of fan projects and scratchbuilt

models, non-GW models are allowed but shall be reasonably sized and based on an equal

size base as to their GW counterpart. This applies as well to the terrain piece players are

allowed to field. Custom “counts as” terrain pieces need to adhere closely to the

dimensions the GW piece in length, width and height, and have a fairly equal amount of

    perching space on it.

All warscroll wargear options must be represented on their respective models and

    documented on the army list.

Players shall choose their Command traits, Artifacts and Spells and document

them on the army list. The choices will not change throughout the event.

Warscroll command models will be limited to one each and identified as the

proper command model, this includes when a unit has been increased beyond its size

through purchasing multiple of a warscroll.

The chosen army General can be any model in the players army, however if it is a

particular model in a multi-model warscroll then it will needs to be easily identifiable

This event will be using the Best Coast Pairings system, as well as the Best Coast

Pairings player app. Players are strongly encouraged to use the player app, and upload

their army lists via that app. For those players without a smartphone (who are you??) you

must bring seven paper copies of your list..(Bronson did the final draft and added the phone comment, lol)

    GAMEPLAY RULINGS

After players have rolled off for table halves but prior to army deployment,

players will place their terrain warscroll pieces on the table. This can be placed anywhere

except within 6" of an objective marker, with the player winning the table half roll off

    placing theirs first.

Terrain warscrolls with the "Garrison" special rule are limited to one warscroll of

20 models and one Hero warscroll. No Behemoth or Warmachines are allowed in

    Garrisons.

Persisting effects and spells with the same name do not stack. However, two

different abilities giving the same effect do stack.

If at the end of a player’s turn, the player has no models (not counting terrain) on

the table, then the game ends and all models not yet in play for whatever reason are

considered destroyed. Victory will be determined by scenario victory conditions if

possible, if not then model kill points.

Measuring will be done base to base. Vertical measuring will be between the

torso or "bulk" of models not including any weapon or arm/appendage protrusions.

Models that CANNOT be attacked or targeted by spells, ranged weapons or melee

weapons, do not count toward capture, contest or control of objective points. Thus, a

Wizard on a Balewind Vortex is an example of a model that doesn’t count for objective

    control.

Expect each table to have at least one preset piece of GW warscroll terrain. Rules

will be placed on each table.

    AWARDS

Like all OFCC events, prize support will be considerable.

We will be using the Best Coast pairings system and players will earn points to

their ITC rank with the performance in this event.

Event winners will be determined by a combination of their W/D/L record along

with using a soft score of how many victory points they gained in each game they played

    to determine tie breakers.

    Awards will be given for:

Best Overall (combined scores of tournament placing, sportsmanship, and

painting) (requires one favorite opponent pin)

    Best in Faction,(death.order ect..)

    Best Sports

    Best Painting categories for:

    o Best single model

    o Best Terrain piece

      That should be everything:)

Sorry,,I overlooked the "cant view pdfs" part of your ealier post.

  12.  Ahh,,shows how much I know about all these fancy consoles, lol. Its been many many years since I used a console for any gaming,,im Im talking early 1980 something.I didnt know you could post on the web with those things even though my kids have like 3 or 4 of the latest machines laying around, heh.

Yeah,in your situation the best thing to do would be to get the GA Death book ,then..it has the few formations that Death has available in it too,,well all except those in the Flesh Eaters Court tome.

I haven't weighed because I'm not sure what is required for this event. I know it's $40, but I'm on the PS4, so I can't load PDFs (would be really nice if the full event details were posted somewhere, like in this thread  ). I also lack a fully painted army, but depending on event requirements, might be able to get one fully painted by the deadline.

The OFCC is also in a logistically unpleasent location, but I could probably make it work, if this was my only concern.

The comp pack and details are in the post above yours,,,>>>https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/488b9d_a4fda4ef4e5a447c8974503e309c0dc3.pdf

For warscrolls if you dont have an online access,,the Grand Alliance Death book is 16.00 I think,it has all things Death in it.How do you post online here? if you dont have a computer or net phone/tablet?

Painting as per usual for OFCC is 3 color minimum and based so yeah, that depends on what level of detail you like on your models.I had to forgo the Friday 8th edition 40k event as im around half painted for my 40k armies.

  14. The Intercessor Primaris guys(the basic marine) seems to be a decent objective camping unit especially if you can get them into cover,a group of 5 should have no problem with this if one is nearby.Only had a couple of games in but in both cases the base unit of 5 got a few model kills and held an objective each game. For cost, 100 points for 5 models with 2 wounds each and an upgraded Bolter weapon range and -1 rend is pretty good I think.

They are very much like what Liberators are to Stormcast in AoS,,im sure more variants with options are in the works:)

  15.  If I had a choice on the shooting issue,,I would just go with a simple -1 To Hit when shooting into or out of combat..I would give some bespoke exceptions for certain weapons of course.

The game is working the way it is now in regards to this issue,,the biggest problems are coming from point values of certain units,of which hopefully they address.

I learned that the relic is way easier to pick up!

    Quick question

If a model has a rule that effects friendly models of type (whatever) and the model also is type (whatever) do they get the benefit as well?

Like Chaplains, Warbosses (waagh), Old One Eye.

Yes they do,,dont have my book in front of me now,but this very issue is covered early in the rules If I rem correctly:)
