  1. Jon and I will be making sweet, sweet, daemon-love. Or playing an 1850 game of 40k. Same thing, really.

Sorry brother - life has stepped in the way to make it impossible to be at DTG tomorrow. I'll be chilling with my little guy from dawn til dark - literally. My better half was supposed to go to Seattle to get furniture on Wed but that just got moved to Tuesday <le sigh>. My most sincere apologies.

  2. Complaining about mechanics that actually work if you actually read them.

This is what I need to glean most from my (and other codices) - The mechanics that can be used to my advantage but are not often used or put forth for tactical consideration because there is not a huge 40k for Dummies style sidebar that says "Defeat all your enemies by simply... .... [blah blah blah]" .

Read More. Play More. - Not a bad Rx!

  3. I feel that I have to point out here that even if you only play 40k and just one army at that, doing so for several years, then, reading comprehension aside, you should definitely have a clear and comprehensive understanding of the game and it's rules. However, for those of us with 6-12 months of experience under our belts the mistakes that can be made are legion; especially when the elements of  time and pressure are involved. Comprehending the rules and being able to execute them continuously for 3 hours without mistake are two totally different levels of play, in my opinion. Whether that makes me a 'filthy casual' or a 'padawan learner' I'm not sure but neither am I too concerned. The game isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The mountain will stand, the snow will fall.

  4. And done! Gone are the massive number of power armored troops... Gone are the dreads... Oh dear god I may have been replaced by a Pod person...except gone are the drop pods as well!

    Whoa!

    No Gino, No Pods

    ... ... ... WTF are you running? :P

  5. Yeah demon farm sounds bad but getting it to work relies on a clueless opponent.

By clueless do you mean they are unable to capitalize on the fact that "if you're summoning your not shooting" or are there other major weaknesses there?

I agree about reading for comprehension. That said, the game does have a fairly step learning curve and with a new edition a few mistakes seem inevitable in the 1st 6 months or so until thing shake out.

  6. Fudge. O.K. I owe you an actual apology Shae. You won that game! I messed up. So, those heralds would have turned into all of the greater daemons which you killed so the main unit would have broken after the 2nd Assault when we were all locked up next to the building and I would not have had the tower objective contested, leaving only my 11 troops and the fast attack assault unit that just refused to die.

    Sorry man. Daemons.

  7. The greater Demon summon kills the psyker casting it (whole unit removed if brother hood unit) so he had to have it on separate units...

Wait. Now, I'm confused. I did have 4 sixes on Malefic, one on each herald (I rolled alternating malefic and Telepathy so each herald had one from each discipline; but the unit dies if the power goes off? I'm misplaying something here. <brow wrinkle>. It was  a unit with herlads on steeds and seekers does that come under brotherhood unit?

  8. Geeze, guys, sorry  I didn't make it out.  My 4:30 dental appointment was supposed to be a quick visit, but lasted till nearly 7.  I went home to have dinner, then just 'rest my eyes' for a little bit before going out, and that was the last thing I remember.  :(

<ron burgundy voice/> "Since when do eyes need rest. Everyone knows eyes just roll back into your head when you pass out until the Federales poke you with their guns and you say hey, that's sharp - I'm awake!" <ridiculous voice off/>

    next time?

  9. Cool! I'll bring an 1850 point version of my OFCC list (Chaos Space Marines with Daemon allies, all Nurgle, all the time). I'm rocking a massive 3 warp charges. Feel free to bring whatever you need to prepare for the BAO. Hmmm... BAO uses 3-hour rounds. If you want to practice quick-play (something I'd like to do more of), we could even plan to do a tournament-style, no-interruptions game. Plan on starting at 6:30 (after setting up the battlefield) and aiming on getting a whole game within 3 hours. We could even use a chess clock to track time. It's something I'd like to do more of to prepare for the OFCC, and I find that the fast-and-furious playing is a good way to make lots of mistakes (and subsequently learn more). Either way, I'm up for it!

Kids' swim practice is done at 5:45, so I should be there a hair after 6.

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

I'll bring the chess clock - you bring the whoop-ass :)

  10. Forgive me father for my army hath unfairly beaten Huggies', an obviously superior general and undisputed victim of some lucky rolling on Malefic Possession & Telepathic Shrouding & Invisibility.

    I spawned a LoC.

    Twice.

For this I am supremely sorry Father.

    I also spawned a Bloodthirster.

    ...and a Keeper of Secrets

    ...and a Tzeench Herald.

I had Base 11 WC in my tournament army. Huggies' had 6 - for this I readily admit I am a douche.

Librarian: "Recite the rules to 2nd Edition once, the 5th edition twice and say two our Emperors - go in peace my son."

...and I still feel like a douche. Sorry dude. Daemons can be OP or they can suck. Tonight they were totally OP. To your credit you killed almost almost all my models including every thing I summoned (except that last fuc|<ker). Awesome game. Wish the shop had been open for another hour. You would have won.

  11. I'll not be able to stop by this evening, but Jon, any chance you'd be up for 40k next Tuesday? We haven't played in ages, and I still haven't played a game of 7th yet. 1850 points tournament-style is fine by me.

Welcome home - Sure! Daemon on Daemon craziness should be out of sight fun - we can talk fluff/armies/WC for the game or just do straight up 1850 BAO Style; I'm cool with with either . At any rate I'm sure I'll learn something and have a good time!
