  1. No its still going. I got it in early access and had many hours of unpolished fun.

I took a break on it and check back periodically when it gets updated to see how the game feels. The shooting mechanics are great, but the rules for melee constantly change and never feel quite balanced or fun.

Still, I'm a sucker for the 40k IP and this game nails the feel of the setting pretty well when it comes to the player characters. On the whole, it has potential and shouldn't have been released so early.

  2. Hey I'll be around tomorrow for some 40k. If there's no one available I'll come play XCOM if there are still seats available. I'm a HUGE fan of the digital games so I have high expectations for the board game. We'll see how many times it takes for a rookie to kill a freakin' sectoid.

Hey Brendan, I've been getting the 40k itch lately and would like to get a game in (if you're not exterminating other xenos). I was thinking a 1500 pt game with my Eldar. Here's the list I was thinking of:

    CAD

    HQ
    Maugan Ra 195

    Troops
    x5 Rangers 60

    x5 Rangers 60

    Elites
    x6 Striking Scorpions 102
    Exarch 10
    Scorpion's Claw 30

    x5 Wraithguard 160
    DT: Wave Serpent 110
    Shuriken Cannon 10

    Heavy Support
    War Walker 60
    x2 Bright Lances 10

    War Walker 60
    x2 Bright Lances 10

    War Walker 60
    x2 Bright Lances 10

    Aspect Host

    x5 Dark Reapers 125
    x5 Starshot Missiles 40
    Exarch 15

    x6 Warp Spiders 114
    Exarch 10

    x5 Fire Dragons 110
    Exarch 10
    DT: Falcon 125

    1496

So a few hard hitting elements and general Eldar trickery, but not too much staying power.
  3. Not much so far, but I should have more time this week to fill in on my other battles and finish this one:

“Morrslieb shines bright this night. I sense ill tidings,” said Racthelion.

“I myself am beginning to sense that, according to you, there are no other sorts of tidings, Wrath,” replied Calrothir.

“Only fitting for these times though. They say it was a shard of the chaos moon that did the city in."

"Perhaps, like as not the humans would have done themselves in, meteor or no, as they tend to do."

The two elves were scanning the city from a tall and crumbling parapet. Calrothir looked at the two moons above. Their light was welcome, but unneccesary, for Calrothir had long been accustomed with navigating all manner of darkness. Even for that, bright moon or no, the city was always alight and alive, even literally at times.

Calrothir sensed a slight tension in his comrade; only years of fighting together had taught him to pay heed to such signals. A quick glance at Racthelion was enough to catch him raise a finger to the side of his helm, motioning for Calrothir to listen. A whimper of sound was enough for Calrothir to start moving.

Drawing upon the hidden magic of shadows, Calrothir sent his own shadow to a far wall, and watched it motion him over. He then pulled himself to its location, materializing fully there.

Plenty of light means plenty of shadows, ill tidings indeed Wrath, for our quarry perhaps. He thought. Calrothir kneeled and placed a hand on the ruined cobblestones. The sound was heavier now, with no apparent effort of concealment on the part of the source. One more ought to do it. Calrothir envisioned his shadow near the source of the sound, a heavy footfall that was growing louder.

Calrothir burst forth from his own shadow in front of a portly man carrying a large chest. The man halted in his steps, tripped over himself onto the hard cobbles, and screamed. Calrothir motioned a finger to the front of his helm, requesting silence.

The request was not met. Calrothir's shadow moved behind the man and covered the man's mouth. Being already out of breath from his chase, the man passed out quickly.

Ill tidings, right. The merchant was meant to be a part of a well guarded caravan, slated to trade with all manner of the city's dwellers as a free agent. They should not have run into any danger that well-armed human caravan could not handle, not in the outskirts, at least. Calrothir could hear further footsteps coming towards him, heavier than those of the unconscious man that lay at his feet. He stayed absolutely still, but had his shadow signal back to Wrath with a closed fist. Even from here, he felt that he could sense the same tension in his comrade. The best strategy would likely be to hide, but he did not plan on leaving a being he had personally knocked out, human or no, to whatever manner of creature that approached.

A well-armored human warrior rounded the corner, with a retinue of armed men and women at his back. Mercenaries.

"Halt! Who goes there?" said the well-armored man.

Calrothir held up his hands. He knew well their stilted tongue. No need to make a fight of this, yet.

"Greetings, men of the Empire, health to your Emperor, from what province do you hail from?"

The well-armored man spoke: "None that concern you, fiend, what have you done to that man before you?!"

"Ah, the poor soul took a fright, I'm afraid, I was just about to take him back to my comrades for some food and rest. If you will excuse me."

The armored man had fire in his eyes. "By the right of Sigmar, I have commanded you to halt, and that is what you shall do. We found this man's caravan slaughtered by the undead, and the poor lad himself a gibbering mess. We slaughtered the risen dead and their dark masters as they tried to feast on the unfortunate group, but in the melee the man before you ran away. I do not like the look of you, you will come with us for further questioning."

"You think me a vampire? How insulting, is it not clear that I am an elf?"

One of the men in the retinue spoke: "My cousin Gerhardt said he has heard of elves, Cap'n, they say they can be a good lot pending the type you are dealing with."

"I have heard different stories," said another, a woman, "of treacherous beings who have no love for man. I say we kill this one and let Sigmar sort out the details. Vampire or elf, I am sure they have caused plenty of suffering in raids against the civilized world."

Calrothir bristled, his shadows surging around him at the very thought of being compared to his dark kin. "You best move on," said Calrothir, "trust that no harm will come to this man, but persist and some may fall to you."

The armored man let out a deep laugh. "A threat, and now I see the dark magic that engulfs you. That is certainly punishable by death. I meant to question you first, for true, but I am sure that we have all the answers we would seek already." The armored man signaled a charge. The retinue advanced quickly, bristling with all manner of weapons in their hands and several manner of prayers on their lips.

As the retinue closed in, Calrothir sensed that familiar slight tension on the wind. From the surrounding ruined buildings the rest of his kin burst forth, blades catching Morrslieb's glow in a silvery green flash of motion.

  4. The Scions of Nagarythe

"We will be cruel to the Druchii, and through our cruelty they will know who we are."

A small band of guerilla fighters known for their brutal reprisals against the Dark Elves. Their primary mission is the elimination of Druchii, but the high price on their leader's head has brought them into conflict with all manner of mercenaries and killers. For a long while they have tracked a raiding party of their dark kin to the city of Mordheim. With cold hearts and colder steel, they prepare themselves for a bloody affair. Supplies and reinforcements will be difficult to come by in this tainted city, so each Elf must be careful not to sell their lives needlessly.

Eldruin: Shadow Master (85) with Sword (10) Dagger (Free) Elf Bow (35)

Racthelion “Wrath” Caemus: Shadow Walker (60) with Sword (10) Dagger (Free) Longbow (15)

The Black Lion: Shadow Walker (60) with Spear (10) Bow (10)

Calrothir: Shadow Weaver (70) with Sword (10) Dagger (Free)

Taerys: Shadow Warrior (40) with Sword (10) Dagger (Free) Bow (10)

Illyana: Shadow Warrior (40) with Sword (10) Dagger (Free) Longbow (15)

I'm thinking I will cap the ranged weapons at 5, due to the difficulty in acquiring bows that are up to elven par in Mordheim.

  5. Thus taking a rain check on the game you had scheduled with me this week? It's cool. It's cool.

I'm on the east coast for a wedding right now. So unfortunately I'll have to rain check my rain check with Kacey. He should be thusly free.

  6. I haven't played 40k at the shop for a little while, but the standard seems to be 2000 pts, with 1850 pts being considered the more competitive tournament standard.

Also, since this thread refuses to die, I'll throw in that I am available for Zombicide, since my opponent's own undead horde quailed at the thought of facing good Empire steel next week.

  7. Actually, 'twas not I who was slain, but SigurdBC.

I likely would have perished were it not for his sacrifice though. To be fair, he was probably just repaying me for my earlier medical work. Well-placed arrows in the back heal people right? Balance the humors, release toxins, etc.

I goofed a bit and scheduled a Ninth Age game while not thinking that the game would likely continue next week. That said, I had a blast, so if the campaign continues once more I would be keen to play the good Dr. Stormcrow again.

  8. That sounds fun (and potentially very deadly for a PC). I've been wanting to get in on the 40k rpgs (yes, including playing as or possibly DMing for a superhuman space warrior). When would you want to start running the campaign?

Also, I should be down tomorrow, so I can get the RPG gear back to you from the campaign.

  9. I enjoyed it quite a lot for the part I played. Unfortunately I had to break away to do some editing, and it seems like Jim's dark legions prevailed. The interface was a highlight, as it made tracking the many systems and resources more simple and satisfying.

  10. If Koyote is unable to farm then I would like to try this one out in his stead.

My potential Ninth Age opponent wasn't available this week, so if I don't join in I will hang around and bother people about their games.

  11. I'll be down a little before 6 so I can look over your list before you start. You don't want to be a big cheater and not take enough core or take too many Arcane magic items or something :P

Now what sort of monster would do such things? Surely no one I know.

As for today, I cannot get there at 5, but will be there before 6 with enough time to pow wow.

  12. I'd love to get a Ninth Age game, but Kevin and I are scheduled for a long overdue duel at Star Wars: Rebellion. Would you want to schedule a game for next week? I haven't had a chance to test my Vampires against your Warriors yet now that you're getting the hang of them.

I should be good for that. Also, would you mind bringing the BRB? I still wanted to get a headcount on another bound book order. I'll see about that now.

That would be great! If Jake is up for it, and you're willing, I would really appreciate borrowing a gorgon and a cygor (or whatever they're called in 9th age). I want to get a feel for the models I have and work out what to get to round out the forces.

Awesome. A 6pm start would be ideal if you can make that. If we go a bit earlier we can spend some time on setup.
