  1. As Jim mentioned, the opening Heresy trilogy is very well written for the genre, and offers a good look at how the Imperium got to where it is in th 41st Millenium. After the openers they vary in quality and are somewhat less sequential, but tell some interesting stories depending on which factions you want to read about. Most other novels  outside of the Heresy follow their own story, and several good ones end up as trilogies.

I have yet to be disappointed by Abnett. His Gaunt's Ghosts series is a fun look into the trials of a rough and ready Guard regiment. I have yet to try his inquisitor novels, but I hear great things.

The Space Wolves have an Omnibus by William King that I enjoyed quite a bit. Its fairly standard action fare and details the rise of Ragnar Blackmane.

I would also recommend anything from Aaron Dembski-Bowden. The Emperor's Gift is told from the perspective of the Grey Knights, but its events heavily involve the Space Wolves and detail their moral character in contrast with other elements of the Imperium. A great read.

  2. Hey Sherbert, unfortunately I found out today that I will be working afield in Idaho next Tuesday and Wednesday. I was predicating my availability upon my usual schedule which has Tuesday evenings free, but should have checked in before committing.

I should think there must be at least one more willing and able gamer out there, but if not, perhaps someone who just wants to put one session in can do so next week and I can pick the warband up from there after confirming my schedule.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  3. This looks like a fun list to me. Like intrizic said, its a rather elite, low model count army but it packs some serious punch.

Those TWC will fight well, and are definitely worth the points investment, but I have found that they can still be very effective with just the stormshield or stock if points are needed elsewhere.

This looks like a well balanced, hard-hitting force that the Sons of Russ would be very likely to field. Would gladly play against.

  4. Scipiano, you interested in trying out some more 9th age? if not id be down to play someone else since I need to figure out my list for OFCC.

Brad, I left my Mac n Jacks growler at your place. Can you bring it.

I'm interested. I would need to borrow some bases and/or proxy to get to my tentative 2500 list though.

    Looks like I still need:

    -Chaos Lord

    -12 Wasteland Warriors

    -3 Crusher Knights

    -20 Barbarians

    -10 Chosen

So 43 25x25mm bases at the least and 3 50x75mm bases. (Or at the very very least, cardboard with squares drawn on it). We could also do a lower point game if that is viable.

  5.  If I can't find a game of infinity, would you be willing to run me through a beginner game of armada?

I've been itching to get some Infinity action in. Got the US boys (and girls) all painted and ready to go. Game at 7:15 then? It sounds like smashthedean might be otherwise occupied at that time.

  6. The (undoubtedly Alpha Legion - infiltrated) Raven Guard

[Alpha] Aut Mortis. That was a fine kill!

I will get some fluff to you shortly Eli. I will side with the traitors for this one.

Also, if anyone wants to do a combined FW order for the free shipping, let me know.

  7. You will probably want to take a look at the Red books for the unit builds Corey. Many units are cross compatible but they all operate a little differently. Iron Warriors seem to focus on the big guns from what I have seen.

I thought that these guys gave a good enough overview of the general list:

I'm all for going big Eli, as the Heresy is an epic tale, but the selection of Legions we have would probably lend itself more to a single star system or warzone. Hopefully Jim can recruit Adam the UM player for another loyalist. I know Don was considering representing the 1st Legion according to the 1st page as well. (His planned heretical army could make a cool counterpoint to your auxilia as well, representing renegade Imperial Army groups.)

  8. BaC just arrived. These kits are glorious, and a great deal. Also have some older style rhinos (2ed I believe) coming in. As far as choosing a legion goes, it was a tough call but...

    Hydra Dominatus

All valid points on the Astartes psychology. I too like the idea that the lack of ATSKNF is more than a mere rules abstraction. I think it speaks to the strength of the 40k Chapters as well. While the Legiones Astartes had massive numbers, perhaps more human bonds, access to advanced (and advancing) tech, and more pure geneseed, the Chapters are much more selective in their recruitment and have a codified interest in holding the line.

I could also see how fighting against Primarchs and  former brothers, bonds that would usually be considered inviolate, would shake even the staunchest of warriors.

  9. Sounds like everyone who might want to play some Infinity has a date?  I'd be up for an early game, otherwise I will just swing by and watch, then head to naked lady drawing and meet y'all for beers.

OOOOOHH!!! Maybe I'll bring hobby supplies and assemble some duderz!  THAT'S THE TICKET!!!

I am free for Infinity, how early are we talking?

I understand if you've got a date with the duderz planned though. (Actually, why not both?)

  10. New job. Schedule has opened up in a big way.

I don't have Facebook, so I can't tell if there is a sign up date or you just show up and pay. I should be able to make that though.

Also, looks like you're committed this week, but I have been wanting to try out the ITC missions as well if you can game in the next few weeks.

  11. I am heavily considering the BaC box after glancing at some of the models in person.

Haven't fully committed to a Legion yet but I'm reading through the Horus Heresy series and might swing to one in particular after a few more specific legion-focussed books.

Would it be 2500 points or bust to play?

Also, I'm curious about the lack of ATSKNF. Is there a concrete fluff justification for this or is it more in the realm of rules to make the astartes on astartes action more exciting?

    Thanks.

  12. My limited knowledge is that Joey wanted to get this going after the Warlands campaign is finished. I suppose we'll want to wait for further word from the man himself on the matter.

An event would be proper motivation to get my models less shiny and chrome.
