I did say closer to balance. It ain’t perfect, but the BV2.0 system does at least make the maths used to build all the ‘mechs in the game kind of “open-source.” The system does probably undervalue some tech and overvalue some stuff, but at least everyone is working from the same maths.

Plus, if you base campaign play around a combination of both C-Bills and BV, than they fancy-schmancy Clanner tech quickly looses a lot of its luster.  Just buying replacement parts for a modestly damaged Mad Cat or Thor after a battle can nearly pay for a completely new Inner Sphere ‘Mech.

  2. Vallejo and/or Pro Acrylic seem to be the drug of choice for people with much, much, much more painting talent than me.

Army Painter seems to be the choice for people who know what they’re doing and are on a budget.

Citadel seems to be the choice for those of us that never thought much about what we’re choosing. 😊

I love my RT guardians...liked that look better than this one actually...I'd die to some modern guardians with chainmail 🙂

I can’t really disagree with that either. I do kinda miss the early editions much more obvious “Fantasy in Space” aesthetic… Heck, I still have trouble remembering they’re not called “Space Elves” and “Space Orks” anymore.
meh... the guardians were already plastic - would have been nice to see other units pulled out of the metal age :yourock:...
I had always assumed that the next round of Eldar kits would have dual-purpose sets: Guardians/Dire Avengers; Banshees/Hawks; Scorpions/Spiders… But I guess GW doesn’t like doing kits that give good value for money anymore. That’s sooo 2010.

  4. I’m really looking forward to the Army Painter Speedpaints. I like about half of the GW Contrast Paints that I’ve tried and every reviewer on YouTube that’s gotten early access testers from Army Painter has said they’ve liked them as much as (or more than) GW’s stuff.

Yeah, yeah, the usual caveats about skepticism of reviewers who were given the product apply, but Army Painter’s other products have always been excellent in my experience. So I’m inclined to believe that they got this one right too.

I have to take a break from 40k. The level of nonsense that is coming out is insane. The distribution of rules is so crazy it is hard to track it all.

The new RAILGUN with 10-12 wounds per shot is straight asinine.

This doesn’t bug me much; the Hammerhead’s rail gun is meant to be one of the scariest anti-tank weapons on the battlefield short of those carries by Titan-class tank hunters.

  6. If you want perfect balance, play Chess or Go.

If you want something sci-fi themed, miniatures-based, and grimdark and close to balance, then WH40k is usually pretty good for the first two, maybe two-and-a-half, years after a new edition drops.

If you want something sci-fi themed, miniatures-based, and grimdark and much closer to balance, throughout its entire edition life, then you should play BattleTech.
