InfestedKerrigan
Apocalypse Faction Focus: Legiones Daemonica …or as you might know them, Daemons of Chaos! In today’s Faction Focus for Apocalypse, we’re looking at how the insidious children of the warp fare in Apocalypse. Read on for a guide to their play style, some top units and some truly evil Command Assets… Play Style In Apocalypse, Daemon armies can be broken into two elements – a core of horde infantry that’s fast and deadly in melee, and an elite cadre of monstrous Greater Daemons. As Skull Cannons and units of Horrorsbombard the enemy with sorcerous projectiles, the rest of your army will move in for the kill, shrugging off heavy enemy fire with ease thanks to their Daemonic Invulnerability rule. The Legiones Daemonica unit roster is incredibly diverse, and when combined with the permissive army building of Apocalypse, allows you to unleash forces seldom seen on tabletops. An eightfold council of Bloodthirsters? A rippling pack of Screamers, Burning Chariots and Heralds? A ceaseless legion of Plaguebearers? Or perhaps stranger combos of your own invention – just what would an Apocalypse-sized army of Nurglings look like? Legiones Daemonica armies also benefit from all sorts of nifty interlocking synergies with their heretical allies, like Heralds of each of the Gods bolstering the strength of any units which share their patron and the Daemon keyword. Daemon Princes, Possessed and Daemon Engines make for cracking choices in a Chaos army and give you even more choice when writing your lists. Top Units Rotigus Rotigus makes for an incredibly useful unit in pretty much any Apocalypse Legiones Daemonica army. Like all Nurgle units in the army, he’s capable of ignoring damage on a 6+, while his Deluge of Nurgle ability gives him a chance to inflict extra damage whenever he manifests a psychic power, allowing you to maximise the use of these already-powerful Command Assets. Fiends of Slaanesh Fiends of Slaanesh are fast, strong in close-combat, and look awesome. If that were the end of the story, they’d still be a great choice – but their ability to mess with enemy Psykers with Psychic Backlash makes them a must-have. Skarbrand In Apocalypse, there is a time for tactics, and there is a time for kicking face – and when that time comes, you want Skarbrand on your side. If a problem cannot be solved by the violent, and sudden, application of this legendary Greater Daemon, it is likely not worth solving. Skarbrand boasts a host of incredibly powerful attacks that allow him to chew through Light and Heavy units alike with impunity. Skarbrand also amps up the attacks of nearby units, making him an excellent combo with other Bloodthirsters or allied Chaos units like Khorne Bezerkers. Just be careful – this ability affects everyone, including your foes. Top Command Assets Daemons have many Command Assets that are psychic powers, representing their peerless reality-warping powers on the battlefield. As befits the Chaos God of Sorcery, Tzeentch’s Command Assets are particularly nifty, with Infernal Gateway allowing you to punch holes in closely-grouped foes. Another excellent Command Asset for Daemons is Denizens of the Warp which, with a lucky roll, allows you to return slain units to battle. It’s perfect for a last-minute objective grab – or surprising your enemy with a Greater Daemon they thought they’d dealt with already… If you’re looking to unleash the Dark Gods’ most terrifying servants on a truly horrifying scale, Apocalypse is the game for you! Check out the rest of our Faction Focuses on the Index – while if you’re eager to get your hands on some Daemons right away, why not grab a Start Collecting! set? Apocalypse is available to pre-order from June 29th – alongside several sizes of super-useful movement trays, the new Crusade Case XL (which can easily hold a couple of Greater Daemons), a series of Detachment boxes and more. Learn more about what you’ll be able to get your hands on in our preview, and don’t forget to watch the How to Play video with Becca Scott. 1
InfestedKerrigan
Apocalypse Faction Focus: Asuryani Fast. Deadly. Graceful. The Asuryani – also known as the Craftworld Aeldari – are an incredible army in Apocalypse and the subject of today’s Apocalypse Faction Focus! Read on for a look at their play style, top units, and a couple of deadly Command Assets to whet your appetite. Play Style Asuryani Detachments have nigh-unparalleled speed and versatility thanks to their Battle Focus ability. Usually, the Assault order allows you to make a Move action at double your Move characteristic, followed by a Fight action. Asuryani armies can instead follow up with a Shoot action using their Small Arms.* This allows you to close on your foes with terrifying quickness while maintaining a withering hail of fire. Of course, don’t let the reputation of the Asuryani as fast but fragile corsairs fool you – they’ve got big guns to threaten even the heaviest of armoured columns. If you like, your Craftworlds Apocalypse army could be made up of shoals of grav-tanks, or perhaps an indomitable horde of wraith constructs fighting under the banner of Iyanden. Top Units Wraithguard The flexibility of an infantry unit combined with some of the 41st Millennium’s deadliest weapons – Wraithguard are awesome in Apocalypse. Armed with D-scythes and wraithcannons, they’ll make short work of anything in your way, and are great to have on-side for dealing with enemy Super-heavy units. Rangers In Apocalypse, every single unit matters – and often, your small support squads can be the key to tipping the scales in your favour. Rangers are an easily overlooked pick for Asuryani armies that work as a precision scalpel for excising enemy Characters. Thanks to Deep Strike, you’ll be able to ensure they’re where you need them on the battlefield, while their long rifles’ Sniper rule allows you to target enemy Characters with savage accuracy. In Apocalypse, units left leaderless are “Out of Command”, meaning they’re at risk of routing in the Damage phase. A few squads of these itinerant stalkers can prove very effective indeed. Wraithknight Fast, graceful and armed with enough guns to turn a Leman Russ into a particularly sad (and hot) puddle – you’ve got to love the Wraithknight. On the massive scale of Apocalypse, these gigantic wraith constructs are invaluable in an Asuryani army. The titanic ghostglaive, in particular, is monstrously effective, easily able to scrap an Imperial Knight in a single Fight phase when combined with the Wraithknight’s impressive Attacks characteristic of 4. Top Command Assets Sometimes, you absolutely, utterly, completely need a unit destroyed. For those times, you’ll need Doom – a deadly Asuryani Command Asset that all but ensures an opponent’s destruction. Other Asuryani Command Assets open up new strategies and allow you to get the most out of your favourite units – or represent your preferred Craftworld on the battlefield. Swordwind, for instance, allows for Biel-Tan forces to shred their foes with Small Arms fire. If you’re looking to unleash your Asuryani on the battlefields of Apocalypse, you don’t have long to wait! Secure your Apocalypse set next weekend (alongside the Craftworlds Vanguard Detachment box) – and expand your army today with the Start Collecting! Craftworlds set. Apocalypse is available to pre-order from June 29th – alongside several sizes of super-useful movement trays, the new Crusade Case XL, a series of Detachment boxes and more. Learn more about what you’ll be able to get your hands on in our preview, and don’t forget to watch the How to Play video with Becca Scott. * In Apocalypse, weapons are grouped into broad categories. Don’t let the name Small Arms fool you – this is a vast category encompassing everything from shuriken pistols to fusion guns. 1

InfestedKerrigan
Apocalypse Faction Focus: Adeptus Mechanicus Turn the recaff-dispenser crank thrice for a cup of hot beverage, pull up a Ryza-pattern Positional Lumbar Support device and praise the Omnissiah – it’s time for another Faction Focus! If you hadn’t guessed by now, today we’re looking at the Adeptus Mechanicus… Play Style In Apocalypse, an Adeptus Mechanicus army is a glorious thing to behold, the scale of the game allowing you to bring the devotees of the Machine Cult to the tabletop in all their many-splendoured glory. Your army will consist of serried ranks of Skitarii alongside crawling, hovering and stomping war machines, and stranger units still. Adeptus Mechanicus armies don’t just look awesome – they’re durable, too. With re-rolls of 1s on saving throws across the entire army, your units are even harder to kill, allowing your force to keep battling long after others would have fallen. While they’re primarily a shooting force, don’t underestimate the power of Adeptus Mechanicus armies at short range. Units like Sicaran Ruststalkers and Kataphron Breachersare brutally effective as you close on the foe – combined with the rest of your roster, they’ll give you loads of choice as to how you approach each battle. Top Units Kastelan Robots In Apocalypse, Kastelan Robots are a cracking pick for your Adeptus Mechanicus army, thanks largely to their ability to pulp tanks with their steely fists and melt through infantry when armed with heavy phosphor blasters. Where Kastelan Robots get even more awesome is Battle Protocols – incredible abilities that change based on the order given to their Detachment that turn. Whether you’re crushing your foes up-close or decimating them from afar, Kastelan Robots will serve you well. Fulgurite Electro-priests In Apocalypse, Fulgurite Electro-Priests can be easy to overlook – who’s going to shoot at them when there are Titans to kill? This is a mistake that’ll prove deadly to your opponents. These guys have Ignore Damage (5+), giving them a decent shot at shrugging off enemy fire, while their Electroleech Staves possess fantastic SAP and reliable SAT, allowing them to threaten pretty much anyone on the tabletop. Destroy a unit, and you’ll be able to boost the Fulgurite Electro-Priests’ Save to an impressive 6+ – for reference, that’s the equivalent of a Tactical Marine’s power armour in Apocalypse. With movement trays, you’ll be able to move even massive squads of these electrically-charged warriors up the battlefield with ease! Skorpius Disintegrator It’s fast, it’s arriving just in time for Apocalypse and it’s got some truly excellent firepower – chances are, you need a Skorpius Disintegrator in your life. This battle tank is the kit-sibling of the Skorpius Dunerider, trading out transport capacity for a disruptor missile launcher and your choice of Belleros energy cannon or ferrumite cannon. The Belleros energy cannon is a particularly useful choice thanks to its Barrage rule, which allows you to shoot without line-of-sight. Stick three Skorpius Disintegrators and a Tech-Priest Dominus behind a wall for a long-ranged firebase capable of attacking foes with nigh impunity. Top Command Assets Befitting their tactical flexibility, the Adeptus Mechanicus have some nifty Command Assets that allow them to fundamentally change their strategy in an instant. Looking to shoot your foes off the table? Just trigger the Benediction of the Omnissiah. Facing a squishier army, and want to take them out in melee? Use the Chant of the Remorseless Fist instead! You’ll be able to harness the full wrath of the Omnissiah on the battlefields of Apocalypse soon – make sure to pre-order your set (and the Skorpius) next weekend! In the meantime, if your army needs some reinforcement, we heartily recommend Kastelan Robots – grab yours online or in-store today, or pick them up in the massive Adeptus Mechanicus Vanguard Detachment set. Apocalypse is available to pre-order from June 29th – alongside several sizes of super-useful movement trays, the new Crusade Case XL, a series of Detachment boxes and more. Inquisitor66
I wonder how well this would scale down. Thinking faster games at the 2-3k pts level.

InfestedKerrigan
All that they have released so far, I'm hard into using this as 40k lite for my non-40k gaming group. I'm still sad there isn't movement trays for Imperial Knights/Chaos Knights. I wonder how much of Apoc we will see rolled into 8.2 edition. ZeroStride
I went to the GW store last weekend to play a demo game, and it was at 100 power level (about 2000pts of 40k) and it worked very well. The store owner said that they were playing 100pl games like crazy in Dallas when they went to the Citadel for training, the games took about 1.5 hours, and were tons of fun. One of the main things that helps smaller games work is that HQ is optional for detachments (obviously there are advantages to having them). The rules look great, I am super excited to see what the command cards are, and I'm about to prime my first non-Kill Team models in 10+ years in anticipation!
InfestedKerrigan
Ooooooo, I'm thinking 500 - 1000 PL games using my AT18 models and Terrain. Yup. Totally using this for Tinyhammer.
