Game designer Richard Halliwell passed away earlier this month (May 2021).  His many credits include designing Space Hulk and coauthoring the first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, for which he wrote the original draft and created the core mechanics upon which all the Warhammer, Sigmar, and 40K games have been built.

Even before they were hired by Games Workshop, Halliwell teamed up with Rick Priestly to publish Reaper: Fantasy Wargame Rules in 1978.  They followed up in 1979 with the sci-fi rules Combat 3000: Infantry Combat in the Year 3000.

His other GW work includes WHFB supplements like The Tragedy of McDeath and Ravening Hordes, the licensed games Rogue Trooperand Block Mania, the highway warriors game Dark Future, and the supplements for the first edition of Space Hulk.
