Adjusting to edition changes - 300 pts Bakunin

So since everyone is throwing lists up here I shall share my struggles. Since the point values have changed considerably my old lists were woefully invalid. So this is a, toss everything I own in one list, kinda list.

Only thing I would immediately note is that the sin-eater could go to group 2, and the prowler and zero could then come up to group 1.

This allows the chimera to do what ever the chimera was going to do anyway, and the sin eater to post up and stare down the enemy in ARO. All the while group one is fat with orders to do work as a team!

Just my penny's worth of thoughts so please do run as you feel best!

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you have to max out on SWC. Big guns are nice for sure but in 2nd edition I had an undefeated Hassassin list that only used 3 SWC. A good deal of my lists these days sit at around 4.5 or 5 SWC. I make plenty of lists that max out on SWC but not all have to. Build the list with a basic idea of function in mind and then apply patches to the tactical gaps in your strategy. That's usually how I play. I decide to take what units sound cool and can work well together and then once they are written in I add in units that will do well at supporting them. Sometimes this is with huge guns, sometimes mobility, sometimes specialists etc. All that said I probably would try to work in a Spitfire Prowler just because he's one of my favorite models and an infiltrating camo spitfire is actually pretty nasty. The rest of the list looks solid. I assume that the ladies will be in a link? One other thing is that I prefer the shell game for my LT and I tend to hide him among my regular line troopers so I might make a moderator your LT. Either that or make your LT someone that is a bit more survivable.

If you can't get close to the SWC max because of the availability of your models or the style of game you want to run, i get that. Heck, I've run an all core army for WFB before, with zero specials or rares, just to try it, and I did well. I agree with the fellows above. It depends on your play style, the missions objectives, and how well you deploy and utilize your guys.

I'm not saying every list should have max SWC. But there's a reason that it is a max. It is because it has usefulness in the game to the point that it needs to be capped, similar to there being a points max. Just because it's a 300 point max doesn't mean you shouldn't try getting close to 300 points. I attribute the same logic to SWC. I also understand I could be horribly wrong, since I only have five games under my belt.

But, as a general rule of thumb, aren't special weapons usually helpful in most situations? Wouldn't it be a good idea to have them if you can? Most lists I've put up on the Infinity forums with low SWC have come back with responses to me adding more SWC. And though I agree it's not absolutely necessary to max out SWC, personally, I'd rather take an HMG over a Combi Rifle if I could...

I don't agree with the forums mantra of max SWC. Yes an HMG is better than a combi rifle but a stationary HMG guy might be less useful to your list than an infiltrating camouflage model with mines. It all depends on how your list is intended to function. Sometimes my lists are about hammering my opponent with big guns and sometimes it isn't

Personally, based off the few games I've played, I've found that having a variety of weapons helps a TON. The different weapon ranges alone can help you cover anything from short, medium or long efficiently, and that usually means including loadouts that use SWC. Having all Combi Rifles suuuuucks, as anything longer than 16" means -3 or -6. Having an HMG that covers long from 16"-32" with a +3, has Burst 4 and Damage 15 (and not to mention Suppression Fire) helps balance out your weapon ranges, making your force lethal from near or afar. This can especially help if you have to go first, and your enemy is initially outside that 16" Combi range.

I'm sure that there are arguments against it. And I can even think of a few myself. Infiltrators, Jumpers, bikes, smoke are but a few that come to mind. But, again, for general purposes, it is not a bad idea to fill up SWC where you can, especially if it means simply changing the loadout of an existing model on your list to be equipped with a HMG instead of a Combi.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying take all combi rifles. I am just saying that SWC isn't always something you need to max out. Sometimes I feel people become too dependent on their heavy weapons when in certain situations you can use a lightly armed trooper to greater effect due to positioning. And when a heavy gun or 2 dies people can get panicked and make mistakes.

If you like tons of heavy guns that is fine and you should use that if it fits your play style. All I am saying is that it isn't necessary as I gave won a good many games with lower SWC lists. And never second guess the mighty rifle. My sphinx TAG was killed entirely by rifle fire in a recent game.
