  1. Ahaha, well, I was considering the perspective of: acquiring access to the SS which requires at its cheapest, a unit of DA. In that sense it is a tax. But to your point, it would be an injustice to refer to the total package as a tax to playing Eldar.
  2. Broken is relative, is it not? Besides, at the end of the day, me bringing 3 or four of them didn't make that much of a difference in terms of winning or losing our games did it? Granted, I'm just really just getting up to speed with the current edition, but still it wasn't enough. Alternatively, versus a smaller MEQ list I would have a better match up, but still drop pod lists and several biker builds have caused major problems for serpent spam lists. Also I realize that I am ignoring the use of other formations/detachments to cover the deficiencies for the list (aka hornets, etc., etc.) Again, I don't want people to misunderstand, it is one of the best guns in the game. But costs at a minimum 185 pts to maximize the effectiveness (the 65 pt DA tax). Even then, after paying that cost, it still a random output weapon. Overpowered, sure, broken... I'd be expect eldar lists to have won even more major events if that was the case. Where I definitely think that the weapon is too good, is more about the lists that run serpent spam. Like our conversation from a few months back, it would be nice to have more variety in eldar lists. Unfortunately at that point cost it is just too good to pass up on, and too many of the eldar lists look about the same.
  3. So, I think it would be appropriate for the SS to be adjusted. However, if anything... I would expect it to become a "once per game" use wargear versus altering the range or the mechanic. That is assuming the marketing department doesn't simply present the sales figures to the executives before the book went to press. I wouldn't expect to see a mechanical change outside of that. Although, my thought is that, the serpent is simply going to be made more expensive. From codex gone by, the GW answer to complaints like this (whenever the did respond via a codex change) was to make things more expensive both in dollars and points. Also, from my experience at Adepticon... against well designed lists, I had to save the shield a lot to prevent dropping melta's, las cannons, and a number of decent answers from simply shooting me off the board. That alone balanced out the use of the SS against many of the lists that were brought to the event. Still crazy good, but it was really needed against the more well rounded lists. I don't really think that the change is required compared to what I saw and experienced.
  4. WR: I think there is a slight disconnect. Unless I've misunderstood AP's post, he made the argument that regardless of list design there is no inherent advantage to going second. The more games of 7th I'm playing the more I'm coming around to that perspective. The roll to deploy first decides a lot of the early turn elements. So I think is possible to take the opinion: in a general sense it is possible to create a list with few (maybe no) disadvantages going second. But that is not the same as having an advantage to going second.
  5. Also Pax, most, if not all items (even intellectual property like downloaded games), for sale by a retailer in the EU will be VAT inclusive. To that point, SoW's suggestion will typically not be honored unless your purchase enough to qualify for exemption, like Doc's example, but it definitely can't hurt to try. :)
  6. So I never watched the show, but if it was like this... Would have definitely watch the show! I wonder if he could make a remake short of something like the old mortal kombat show?!?
  7. Bringing hamburgers to share. :) let me know if you have tomatoes.
  8. Oops, I totally thought it was a dex! ,:P my bad, to eager I guess. :D
  9. Torg, you can find a bunch of the images on the gw, website. Also, one of the rumors mentions the shadowseers and dj's as elites. But regardless the codex is on presale.
  10. Based on what I read... super AWESOME (but appears to be glass cannon). So, the leaks don't have information about the DJ and Shadowseer. However the least strongly suggests that Solitare is a HQ selection (as the unit isn't allowed a warlord trait), which makes me hope that, it one of those - doesn't count against your HQ selection types... Flip belts appear to have been fixed in terms of charging through terrain... Also, Harle's apparently have access to some instant death! This news is exciting enough to finally draw me out of hybernation from the boards!!!
  11. The first sentance is inaccruate. The sections actually states, that the basic rules are between the pages of 10 and 31 of the BRB. Which also explains why page 32 starts with "Special Rules." Additionally, in cases where a basic rule and an advanced rule are in conflict the advanced rule will override. Also in those basic rules, the sentence is "If a unit contains..." The battle hymn ability is not a unit check, but specifically details "A model with this special rule can take a Leadership test..." Which actually is an alternative way of writing your third sentence. Interestingly enough on page 63... Characters a Leaders: "Remember that a unit's Leadership tests are taken using the highest Leadership value in the unit (see page 7). As characters normally have a better leadershlp than other warriors, this means that they make very good leaders for unlts ln your army." Battle hymn's is not a unit's leadership test...
  12. Not really feeling that you are addressing the relavent point in ML's arguement. In the cut and paste you have, you've also ignored the "Basic versus Advanced" section which does clearly state when there is a model has an advanced rule, it will always override the basic ones. Specifically, the always use the highest leadership would not apply to War Hymns which by definition are an advanced rule. In the War Hymns description it clearly states the model takes a leadership test. Using the unit's leadership is an assumptive opinon which can only really work by framing it as an ordinary Leadership check. However, the sentence "The advanced rules that apply to a unit are indicated in the entry for the unit in their relevant Warhammer 40,000 codex." also clearly defines in this case how to determine an advanced rule versus a basic one. In all reality it can be argued both ways, I just find the default to higest leadership line of thought to be based more on interpretation and assumption.
  13. Ahahahahaha. Well Jeremy, our teammate, and myself have successfully left Chicago! It was a ton of fun!
  14. Well, it depends on the blocking... Team "Just the tip" maybe worth looking up...
  15. I would echo my agreement with Scott. Start with something simple. Typically a major reason for moving to a more robust platform is due revenue related concerns. Also should your endeavors grow to having a more elaborate inventory of products where there is value in charting customer activities, then you'll want to considering spending on 3rd party services for an online store.
