  1. On topic:

Swarmlords look like a bad ass version of nemesor Zhandrek that acts like an Autarch Strategist, that instant kills everyone he sees, meets a shut down Librarian with this:

P: +6'' synapse (not Sitw) [weak primaris]
1: FnP for unit and one additional unit (buffed)
2: Pin test at -2(maybe -3) [iirc same]
3: can run and shoot (the same)
4: minus d3 WS & BS to a unit for a round (nerfed)
5: nova 2d6+2 vs ld (can only take invul saves against) (same)
6: Warpblast in its current form (same)

Dayam.  He may be a lot of points, but he is kinda awesome.  Now I have USED the Nemesor a lot.  Let me tell you something:  the ability to grant Furious Charge,  Monster Hunter, or Preferred Enemy is awesome.  It makes what looks like a really "okay" unit a lot MORE than okay unit for ITS cost.

Hmm.  I think they overdid the points on it, but I certainly see why.  The reserve gambit is strong in this army...

  2. Never read any books by him...or any Warhammer author so...

I think you mean Robin Crudacce?

Unless you count codex's in which case i have to say:  Codex Space marines looked fine to me.  I liked PLaying Sisters of Battle from the White Dwarf and he did some of that with Matt Ward (who I do not prefer).

I'll admit:  the old Tyranid codex was kind of a victim of timing.  It was terribly timed.  Given a few months of retrospect, i think that codex would have been a little different.

He wrote the Imperial Guard codex which is STILL very good as its own army and a preferred ally of many forces.

It feels like his only real MAJOR miss (minor gripes aside because no one is perfect) was the Tyranids and that had a LOT in my opinion, to do with its timing and what came RIGHT on its heels.  FAQ's, rules and new codex's all boned the Tyranids in one form or fashion.

But then again, they did VERY well in tournies after 6E temporarily turned them into the mightiest psyker race of all time.  orks be damned!

Just trying to be fair minded.

  3. Wow.  Lots of passion.

Well, the thing to do (says the master tinkerer) is to take all the stuff that HAS changed, throw it in a list and start learning what its about.  Then slowly move to more normal lists after you see WHY the heavily altered units or whatever were altered.  Sometimes the problem is that the lists you USED to use dont work as well but newer ones work EXCEEDINGLY well (and "cha-ching" says GW, i know, I know).  Sometimes we want the square peg in the round hole so bad we dont even notice that the hole is a triangle now.

  4. Well LH, I only have the one Riptide for now. The army is meant to be an ally force for my Orks, but its shaping up into an army of its own.

    Commander Farsight

    Cadre Fireblade

    Aun'Va

    2 x Ethereal

    12 Firewarriors w/Farsight Shoulders

    12 Firewarriors

    12 Pathfinders

    Riptide

    2x Broadsides w/Missile Pods

    2x Broadsides w/Rail Cannons

7 Crisis Suits (5 Built, four as Fireknifes)

    Unit of 3 Stealth Suits

    Coming in a future trade:

    2x Devilfish

    Sunshark

    XV8 Battlesuit Commander

Scope my blog for tau posts if youre interested.  Tau is my main army

  5. Read the WD Battle Report this morning. Very interesting as over this past year I've seen a real evolution of the reports such that they are much more about Forging Narratives than worrying about rules. Sure they use home-brew scenarios, but they also often ignore deployment rules and even having equal points. They are really walking the walk when they say the rules are for fun games, not super-competitive affairs.

    In this Report...

In this Report neither side had any Troops selections! It was all Riptides and Crisis Suits vs. every MC in the Tyranid list. Brutal affair as the Tau often had to concentrate massive firepower (like 5 units) at the same MC to kill it. A funny highlight was the Hive Crone Vector Striking Farsight and his bodyguard and killing everyone except for Farsight saving his last wound on a lucky roll. Several other funny moments, including a Riptide in melee vs. a Trygon (I think) for the whole game because the Riptide kept saving but couldn't hit at all. Silly Tau.

The scenario had some interesting victory conditions, which I'm going to post about in a new thread

Farsight enclaves have crisis suit troops

  6. Heya.  I had one last game of Warhammer at my home, since I may not be able to for a couple weeks (surgery is tomorow!).

Decided to put it on Youtube.  Never done that before so kinda fun to learn how.  Not too difficult.  Here's the link:

Feel free to tell me how I can make these better.  I already know a couple things I messed up on.  I enjoyed playing a close combat army.  Been a while since I did, since its generally not my style of play regardless of the army.  But Night Lords are my close combat army for sure.

    Melee is not dead!

  7. I just pray they address is ONE way or another.  Its not the rules I sometimes dislike.  Its the players who are "cloudy" on  what they "meant".  Yes because its so complcated to figure out right?

Please, clarity Gawds...shine on this as you shone so clearly on Warhammer 8th edition (the rules were drek but the clarity was awesome)

  8. Oh incidentally, the list was, essentially, this (out of town so dont have it in front of me to directly quote):

4 units 5 Chaos Marines (Power weapons + Meltabombs I think?  I think I armed them)

3 Rhinos (destroyer blades and dirge casters)

    Land Raider

Level 3 Sorcerer (Tzeenthc with Psychic Shriek, Breathe of Chaos and Doom Bolt and he rolled +1 init for a boon)

3 units of 1 Nurgle Mutilators

2 units 15 Khornate Raptors (2 x meltas, Boon on the Champions,  Power+Meltabomb.  One got nothing for his boon and the other got Instant Death for his attacks)

    5 Havocs (2 flakk, 2 Lascannons)

  11. I have a potential Tau/Khador trade in the works, but this guys feedback is not good so it is not a solid thing. I am a roleplayer at heart, and while I know you guys all know the game better than I (I'm reading the 6th ed book tonight) something inside of me just rebels at the idea of the Imperium (or Eldar) joining forces with the greenskins. Maybe to fight world destroyers like the Nids or Chaos, but other than that...

Rest assured that you can play without allies with no problems.
