  1. I just download them to my tablet now for reference...but during the game...the app works great. I really like the built in links to most of the special rules or properties so I can click on them to pull them up. So handy! They just need to expand it to the enhancements as well. Those aren't links for some reason but they sometimes add special rules to models.

  2. The only thing that is bugging me is the fact that they are constantly making updates to the cards, which makes buying the cards useless. On the one hand, great that they are making balance changes, but on the other, you are wasting people's money for having outdated rules. I wish they would announce when they made changes at least instead of me having to go to download page and check the dates or versions myself. The app is really nice though. Once I got the other players to load it, it made the game run much smoother. Now if they would only add a turn/CP/VP tracker to it, it would be really useful.

  3. Got together with a couple of friends and got in a game of combat patrol. 1st game of 10th and we kept things pretty simple. It was nids vs marines, both players not existing 40K players but were 40k adjacent.

It was fun, fairly simple, and went well. The nids won the day as they were able to basically assault the marines with the lictors on turn 1 and then pin the termies down with their barbgaunts. I'm sure the next time, the termies will deepstrike in and put up more of a fight.

I will say that the nids rolled so many saves that it really put a hurt on the marines. That opening charge could have been a disaster as the flame marines put down over 20 hits with a great roll....but only half wounded, and then only 2 wounds got through....letting the lictors drop all but one guy. The last sgt did last a few rounds with the help of the librarian and eventually even killed all the lictors. But again, half of the marine force for the whole game.

The terms were slowed down by the barbgaunts and then were too cautious moving forward. They did try a turn two charge vs the pycho-thingy, but failed to roll a 6 on two dice twice. Also, the marine player kept rolling 1's for saves and the terms just got whittled down until eventually only the captain remained. VP wise, it was a complete runaway win for the nids.

really showed the importance of grabbing vps and either working to hold them or deny them. I think the next game will be better. I keep flopping on what army to try. Hopefully we'll get another day of gaming in soon so I can maybe try out a few options.

Both players had fun though, so we should see more games.

  4. Well the marine line has been super bloated for a long ass time already. I mean seriously....even before Primaris crap, they had too much stuff. And I think GW has proven that meta drives sales. So why would people want to keep buying first-born?

And how often can you re-imagine a model/unit without major changes? Take a look at the new "terminators" there really isn't anything special about them except that their scale has changed. Upscaling to Primaris gave them the bandwidth they needed to make significant changes to the newer units. How many people are using the original beakies in their marine armies? It really isn't much different from that.

Sucks for us that have lots of first-born though.

  5. Nice and kind of funny. I have Necons, Space Marines, Ad Mech, Sisters too. I've also got GSC and nids ready to go, Orks, CSM and Tau each need one model built. Eldar, IG, Dark Eldar and Squats all need a bunch of units assembled. None of this nonsense is painted though. My eventual plan is to have enough options so that anyone who wants to play can just come over and pick the army.

Right now I'm leaning towards playing Tau as I do have some models painted. CSM is also a contender with a unit of Legionaires done. Necrons could probably get painted and wrapped up very quickly. The rest though are all running that unprimed grey color 😞

  6. Well I found one this morning....so yay...I did have one. We will just skip past the part where I lost track of a $70 kit.

As to the future of combat patrol, I don't really see one unless GW keeps releasing new ones. Apparently, the CPs are specifically "balanced". I went through the ones I have models for and the base point range goes from 375 to over 500. And like the Admech one has anti-air weapons and yet no other CP has air units. So GW is completely talking out of its ass. Oh, and some of the cards are missing abilities too. Heck the Space Wolf one has a dude that isn't even in the list. There is no Battle Leader on foot. There is Battle Leader on Wolf, or Battle Leader in terminator armor...but no plain battle leader.

I will admit that I've just started to look into it...so maybe GW has said that typical 500pt armies are fine to play in combat patrol.

  7. well, one thing we can be sure of, it will have an epic price point. I'm going to skip this one. Even though the models look very cool, I know I just don't want to pay GW's prices. The current prices for titans are $75, $100, or $170 in epic scale. I am truly astounded by the sheer level of greed from GW. They have already said that the full contents of the new box is no where near what a full army should be. Seriously? I suppose $750-$1000 is the standard entry point for a new GW army these days? What gets me is that price is regardless of scale.

That does bother me. I would have picked up the starter set...and been really happy about all the cool new minis. And then as the new releases come out with, IMHO asinine prices, it would get tossed in the pile and forgotten. Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part that making something more affordable would allow more people to get it and they'd end up still making money instead of constantly pricing things as a massive luxury.

    Yay 3D printers!

  8. The new epic is 30K, and it is 8mm scale. So not great news for old epic players but probably not the worst. The big thing is going to be the ruleset. If the rules are good, then they can be applied to older armies and such. Keeping an eye on this as I have a decent investment in epic 40k and would like to see that get revitalized.
