  1. I've been Xbox'ing mostly, haven't been motivated to get off the couch for PC gaming.Β πŸ€ͺ

Game pass games have been awesome. Things like Deep Rock Galactic and others have been fun. However, haven't really done much multiplayer lately. Been blasting through as many free game pass games that I can. Desperados 3 is my current work through.

  2. With Covid and all, i haven't taken any time to get caught up with 40k. In fact, I skipped Indomitus and all that (local shop has Indomitus, but have most of those models just not the new ones). Mainly just looking to get caught up with essentials. Below are the things I think I need.

    • Latest rules? Link to the current rulebook? Is there one, or is it all index crap again?
    • There's a new Codex for Necrons or is it Indexes too?
    • Any must haves of the new models, or just 'meh' so far? Not a huge fan of the new design, but wondering about power and high end models of the new kits.
    • Any other insight?

Basically I already own a ton of Necrons, they've been my core army since 4th ed. Just looking to get my feet under me again and support my local game store with an order.

Ended up going with DnD 5e. Running the "Beginners Box" adventure through video chat for 3 beginners. Really enjoying it so far. Sent a bag of 100 assorted rpg dice to 2 of my players with this message attached.

EPIC, and that beginner mission is probably the BEST mission ever made! Easy, in depth, a great story, and SUPER flexible for DM's! (as long as no other player has run it yet).

Since the normal theater isn't a good option right now. I added a small home theater setup to my art studio. Pretty close to entry level on each component including projector, screen, soundbar and an hdmi hub so I switch inputs easily. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.Β

I'm curious to pick the brains of anyone who has set this sort of thing up. How have you optimized picture and sound? Whats the best way to arrange seating? What else do I need to know?

I helped a friend with a home theater (years ago). Sound wise, he just had your typical 4 speaker surround sound (with sub woofer)Β as the room was standard sized. Then he had 2 longer couches. The first was on the normal floor, the 2nd was elevated on a platform he had built to raise the room. Basically he did stadium seating to allow seeing over people. It seated 6Β easily, 8 if you had to,Β and with extra chairs on the side, could do up to 12.Β

As an alternative to stadium seating, you can raise the eye elevation of the screen too. Our home TV sits atop the fireplace about 4ft up. If we move our 2 couches one in front of the other, the front couch doesn't offend. However, looking moreΒ upward is less ideal than looking forward. There is math you can figure out about proper eye to TV elevation. I don't recall what it is, but google can help.

    Β

I also went to a party for my niece and the person hosting hadΒ a theater system in his shop (big enough for an RV or 2). Big 20ft screen and all. That was pretty awesome too! Playing Xbox on a 20ft screen was crazy.

  6. I second D&D 5th ed, and DND Beyond subscription is plain AWESOME (if 1 person bought the books, because you can digitally share it).Β

    • D&D 5e is super easy to learn (compared to pathfinder)
    • Digital sites like DND Beyond take away all the book reading to building characters. Being able to search everything, and have your choices reflected, and dice rolling with modifiers automatic, is just powerful. Especially for newer players. I own 5 books on DND beyond, and pay the master $6/mo subscription. I run a campaign for my sons friends, as well as participate in another that uses it.Β
      • Initially, I thought it was a nice to have. Now I won't play without it, even face to face.Β

The data repositories are probably* in violation of Games Workshop’s intellectual property rights, but being the decentralized work of dozens of anonymous individual coders and hosted across dozens of fly-by-night server farms... Good luck hitting them with a Cease & Desist letter, let alone an actual law suit Complaint.

GW really just needs to put a halfway decent army building app of their own on the market.

*I am not a lawyer, don’t use me for actual legal advice. Consult a real attorney.

Napster was sued and shutdown. They never posted the files and we're decentralized too, however the lynch pin was they hosted the files. Battlescribe hosts the files, I would imagine precedent applies here.

    Β

The article I read, eluded to GW trying to release its own subscription model app and taking away competition.

    Β

However, good to hear not true?

But the current codex with its super doctrines, specialist units, and stratagems out the whazoo has moved them from Jack of All Trades into Masters of All Trades.

    Β

Not that it's right, but when was the last time Marines were the powerhouse? Never really hit that stride. So this will be their time to shine like many factions get. Is it over the top? Maybe, time will tell. But every time we've seen power shifts, each following codex usually does a decent job of adjusting power creep up too.Β

Long story short, totally agree. But I don't play 40k as a competitive win at all costs game. Thus, the games I do play will be great regardless of that power creep.

I was down in Medford Oregon, and a game store down there had a table full of copies...I'd guess at least 8 boxes.Β  These aren't near as hard to find as many of the whiners have made it out to be πŸ™‚

I almost bought one just to resell....

I'm surprised at myself not buying the Necron half, just not sold I need more...

I'm down for some crusade at some point, maybe August or September as a start depending on rule availability.Β

Sounds like we need to run some kind of Faux'FCC league at the clubhouse. 🀣

I just hope they don't sell out instantly.Β Β  My army could use all of the Marine units.

Yeah, i'm considering splitting and taking a Necron side of that box. Don't really need more warriors and scarabs though. Thinking about it...

I think that T’au Sept Tau will continue to rely on turtling up in a corner and trying to win by shooting their opponent off the table, since their Chapter Tactic Sept Tenet, Sept Stratagem, and Special Characters all lean into a (mostly) static gunline. The other T’au Septs will probably return to a more mobile form of game play, using Devilfish and Orcas to move quickly to grab midfield objectivesΒ (and then shoot their opponent off the table. I mean, they’re still Tau.)

I think the question is going to be what, if any, changes happen for the Riptide and it’s support drones.Β

That's what Tau have done in every edition 😁

    Β

And moving? a squad of cheap kroot make for objective grabbing. Shoot them, please. You'd be doing the Tau a favor.Β
