  1. Hmmm, yeah, MSU looks like the best choice if going mech with those new vehicles.  Otherwise, you're looking around 250 points for 10 guys in the Taurox with dual plas and the like.  Still looking close to 200 with only 5 guys.

  2. I feel there is a real big line between answering YES/NO questions or RAW/RAI questions versus saying certain units or upgrades aren't allowed.  I honestly feel the same way concerning Escalation/Stronghold.  Although I don't own any models from either of those books, if the TO wants to allow or restrict those books, it's their prerogative, in the same fashion as allowing or forbidding FW.

I don't know.  Honestly, that's my only problem with the APs FAQ.  I could spend time dissecting it and arguing why I disagree with aspects or comparing Apples and Oranges, but I don't feel the need.  No more so than what I said above.

It's a great compilation, AP, even if there's aspects of it I wouldn't restrict in pick up games and wouldn't want to see "enforced" on the community.  Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

  3. The big thing with the maps and stuff is they want you to purchase content from other users that have made and uploaded things into the store OR upload your own stuff.  Playing a fantasy campaign, this site is awesome: http://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online/

You are able to make a pretty high quality map and export it as pdf or jpg and then upload it onto roll20.  You can set roll20 up to work on 3.5/pathfinder grid, a hexgrid, or no grid.  when "rolling" dice, you type "/roll XdY+Z" allowing you to roll any type of dice (imagined or otherwise) in any quantity with any modifiers.  I'm not sure what Rogue Trader uses for dice, but there is no concern about that.  Possessing a copy (digital or physical) of the books you need goes a long way for playing.  I haven't seen RT campaigns on there, but I haven't looked for them, either.

  4. I don't think you're missing anything.  I'm pretty sure most people that were excited to see what was going to happen for Ravenguard cried when we found out what they actually got.  I wouldn't be surprised if it were an attempt on GWs part to keep things like 10 infiltrating Assault Termies on first turn with stealth/shrouding from happening.

  5. roll20.net

check it out, that's where I'm playing.  The DM (buddy from high school) lives in Bend.  I'm in Kentucky and the other player is up in Boston.  We play utilizing the GUI and skype. There's all sorts of campaigns and groups.  I'm sure you can find one or three to join.

  6. I haven't played the other.  I've never given any 40k card game a chance.  After playing Star Wars and Mechwarrior (and watching them both die) I mostly stopped playing CCG/TCGs, but FFGs Living Card Games have been interesting to look at.  I've considered the Star Wars one, but I don't really have anyone currently to play with or against, so it'd be kind of a waste of funds.

  7. Well, it's the DMs first time DMing and he hasn't played since Second Edition.  There are just two of us players.  I haven't played since 3.5 and the other player has only played in one campaign.  I imagine it's going to be a bit more / n \ than RPing.  The DM asked that we mono-class this campaign so he can get used to the dynamics and rules.  I find it amusing that he is letting us choose non PHB races/classes with these other restrictions, but hey, it works for me.  So, unfortunately, I can't play the Dragoon that I wanted to in the fashion I wanted to as I was going to need to take some levels in PsiWarrior, Rogue, Sorcerer and one or two others if I planned on PrCing (monks bonus movement would be great, as well).

My characters motivations haven't changed, though.  I'm still going to play a gray elf.  As much as I don't want to deal with the bookkeeping, I'm going to be a Wizard instead of a sorcerer.  What I've came up with for progression so far is:

    Str - 13
    Dex - 17
    Con - 15
    Int - 20
    Wis - 13
    Cha - 9

    FEATS
    1 Cloudy Conjuration (CM 40)
    3 Eschew Materials (PHB 94)
    5
    9 Quicken Spell
    10 Spell Mastery
12 Craft Contengint Spell (CA 77)
    15
    15
    18
    20

At fourth level I'll boost my constitution to get that additional HP per level, followed by Dex at 8th.

Keeping with the motivations listed in OP, I'm going with a specialized Conjurer with Evoc and Enchantment as my forbidden schools.  The other player is playing a Hexblade I think.  Arcane Cleric, basically.  I'm not going to power game, but I expect I'll be carrying most of the weight, so I do plan on some optimization.  Cloudy Conj will grant me cover for a round, which will help a lot in early levels with my low HP.  At Third level I'll get Alter-self and be able to give myself AC buffs if needed.  I don't plan on exploiting any Infinity Loops.

As sad as I am about not getting to play my Dragoon, on the plus side it allows me more time to fine tune the Dragoon and it's progression.
