  1. Geez, we have so many X-Wing threads.  I know I'm guilty of making like 4 of them  lol  This one is probably the relevant thread, though.  Finally played, with my girlfriend at that.  We played the basic game, first.  I was Imperial, she was Rebel.  She blew up both my ships and won the first game.  Our second game she decided to play as Luke Skywalker, so I took the guy that lets you focus on Green moves and an Obsidian TIE.  We played with some modified rules, slowly introducing the more complicated stuff to make it easier on her (and thus me).  For an example, we treated Red Moves as White Moves.  We did Shooting like the basic game, either you are in range, or you're not, no dice adding or subtracting, however the Range 1 vs 3 works (I wasn't worried about it yet).  I managed to get Luke to 1 Hull Point, but she destroyed both of my guys.  Although, at one point she thought about...well, in her words "You mean I can have Luke commit suicide and end this game?"  The game had been going for over an hour at that point, with both us evading each others shots, or not having each other in range.

After the game, she said that she enjoyed it more than she thought she would and that she'd play again.  I asked her if she'd like to try Attack WIng, she asked if it played the same, I told her very much the same, just things about stats changed, but moving and shooting was the same.  I'll be picking up Attack Wing sometime soonish.

  2. Nickles work awesome.  They're perfect size, will stay using your modeling glue and are perfect weight.  Although, you're looking at $9.00 in nickles with 180 gaunts.  As if the models weren't expensive enough as it is.

The problem I have with the Crones is aesthetically, the gun in it's mouth.  I don't like guns on bugs.  I'm more of a Starship Troopers/Star Craft type guy.  Raveners at least have it in their chest plate, and that I can deal with.  I could see using Ravenors with wings as Shrikes with shooty weapons.

  3. Ya, I was imagining the magnetic movement trays, especially with the Hormies.  When I was still playing Bugs, I always had problems keeping them upright.

Flipping through the codex, I think the biggest hardship a solid CC Bug army has is with Airforce.  Winged Tyrants being the only reliable way to take them down.  Crones, possibly, but their Drool Cannon is more of a shooting weapon than I'd care for, and wouldn't include them for that reason.  I really like 1800 points for 2 Winged Tyrants, Trygon Prime, 3x3 Shrikes and 180 Hormies.  Maybe drop 32 Hormies and add 3 Carnifex.

  4. So is the model a mirrored image of the picture on Page 8 of the rules?  The picture of the Cutter shows something protruding from it's right wing.  Mine has nothing on the right wing, it seems distorted like a lack of enough resin, but the protrusion is on it's left wing.

Edit:  went ahead and looked on google images and this IS what mine looks like, it's just confusing when the image in the book is mirrored.

  5. I picked it up tonight, just opened it and found my Reaver ship miscast and my Alliance ship tweaked worse than any Finecast model I've picked up.  I've already sent GF9 an e-mail.  Anyone else have similar issue?  We haven't played yet, about to eat dinner.  Still looking forward to playing, though!
