  1. We're pretty lax about proxies down here in CA. Infantry is infantry, guns are guns. Just make sure there's a difference when it comes to mixed unit types in a platoon, like when one or two stands is a pioneer or a flamethrower, but it's not obvious to other players. I wouldn't get too creative with vehicles though, since they come in many different sizes.
  2. Speaking of Team Yankee, I bought a full company of Leopard 1s today, hoping to have 50 points worth of West Germans and Soviets put together and painted soon. I might even bring them up to PDX one of these days. :)

We have some pretty tough customers locally, and we used to count Eric Riha and Bill Wilcox as regulars until they moved away (arguably the best in the world when they were in CA). We get a good mix of all types, from the hyper competitive (TEXANS), to the happy go lucky cooler full of beer types (me). All Masters really means to me is that you've got the perfect set up where you make tons of money, have tons of vacation time to travel, and tons of free time to build, paint, and play. If I had any one of those I'm sure I'd be a masters player too. The first time they did Masters it was all expenses paid, and boy did they pay from what Riha told me. They toned that down pretty quick, I think it's just room and board now. Kublacon is cool, and SF is awesome. I'm probably going to go, but May is already going to be super busy. Like I've said, we need more people to show, but the distances on the West Coast are so much greater than the East Coast so numbers are generally lower than events like Gencon and Historicon, and the BF reps NEVER understand that. I don't think it will be moved from Kublacon, so sorry about that. Someone in the PNW would have to make a pretty convincing argument to BF to move it. I'd definitely go if it were moved to Portland.

Developments regarding West Coast Nationals 2017 have been going around the NorCal facebook page. It's only tentative at this point, but they are looking at a EW, 1650 pt, two day event at Kublacon in Burlingame, CA. The format would be two rounds on Friday, May 26th, and three rounds on Saturday, May 27th, like 2016. Just thought I'd let you guys know, and I know it conflicts with Enfilade. I had a good time this year. We had something like 36 players, some even came from the East Coast.
  5. Yep, NCRP is still around. I only play at NuGames though since it's closer to where I live and has an established group of X wing players. Interestingly, and frustratingly, there's hardly a gaming scene locally besides Magic, outside of small fringe RPG or boardgame groups.
  6. A bit out of the area, but there's a solid group playing here in Humboldt County CA (couple hours south of Oregon).
  7. It's a 4+ to determine if you hit the hull or turret when there are facing issues. A 5+ gun tank roll is always worth it, it's free, doesn't cost you anything.
  8. You can use Gun Tank to distinguish between the Bergepanther and another Panther, or any other ARV and it's corresponding tank platoon. An ARV would be useful for a Jumbo though, if you need to cross terrain.
  9. Glad to see they got around to the Panzergrenadier Brigades as well. Don't worry, they had both Marders and M113s in the Panzergrenadier Battalions. The M113 Panzergrenadier platoons should be slightly larger than their Marder borne counterparts, which is cool. Man, a Leo 1 company would be pricy!
  10. Oh. I just re read that. Well I guess I'll have to think of something else clever.
  11. I've got a couple of good tank pics. One is me in the cupola of the Littlefield Panther in December 2014. Another is me standing on a Leopard 2A5 (not exactly the same but whatever) in the summer of 2010.
  12. So if the guys who do 6mm think less of 15mm games, I wonder what they guys who play those crazy huge games with just hex maps and chits for units think of all miniatures games?
  13. Airmobile Lynx dudes vs Afgansty would be an awesome game!
  14. I've given it a little more thought. Maybe he has been feeling the 15mm scene cutting into his business so he's lashing out. It's a weird argument to make now, though since it's been quite a long time since FoW came out, longer since BF started making minis. He can't really put the genie back in the bottle.
  15. http://www.wwpd.net/2016/08/the-british-are-coming-for-team-yankee.html This looks like a pretty cool book, I'll have to get it just for the title. Still haven't assembled a single TY miniature but it's not like I get any gaming in anyway. And Iron Maiden is NOT a hair metal band!
  16. I like 15mm for infantry and 1/285th for tanks. 6mm infantry just don't do it for me, and 15mm tanks are easy and affordable enough to crank out in volume (I have somewhere around 28 Panthers painted). Terrain is where the real issue is I think. A 6x4 table with 15mm miniatures and an attempt at realistic density of terrain for a western European or German battlefield makes for looooong game and a big financial output. The playing space of a 6x4 for 6mm miniatures is much more pleasing to my eye aesthetically and realistically. I think that the argument the GHQ guy made was odd. It would be interesting to know the motivations behind it. I think he's proud but I don't think he was putting Battlefront down too harshly either.
  17. This sounds rad! Wish I could go.. I actually did paint up 'Cobra King.' Guess I wouldn't be able to use him haha. I think I would probably make a custom 76mm Jumbo, I really like that tank.
  18. If you were not excited enough, if that were even possible: http://www.wwpd.net/2016/06/leopard-arrives-to-adrenalize-team.html
  19. Nowadays it's a catch-all phrase for 6mm/1:285 miniatures. There are several manufacturers.
  20. If it didn't cost $500 dollars to fly to PDX and back again to Arcata, I'd be in.
  21. Now we just need them to release a list for US Armored Cavalry, and we'll be all set.
  22. Leopard previews! http://www.breakthroughassault.co.uk/2016/06/mark-done-bar-look-featured-image-leopard-preview-infantry-artillery-unit-cards.html http://www.breakthroughassault.co.uk/2016/06/leopard-preview-infantry-and-artillery-unit-cards.html The miniatures look great!
  23. We did a 1000 point, four round, MW tournament, down here a few years ago at Pacificon. It was so much fun. We used regular tables. The format definitely works, and it's a great time.
  24. Good luck at Enfilade guys! First round of West Coast Nationals is tomorrow at 4pm! I'm kind of nervous, I haven't been thinking about FoW for a couple months and there's definitely lists coming to this tournament that can hurt me bad. I'm playing Panzer Lehr Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiers from Atlantik Wall; I brought this list up to Portland and played ZeroMoon with it, and I also played in a tournament four hours away in February, and got third with it. Worse comes to worse, I'm in San Francisco (sorta), so there's distractions if I get totally shelled at the tourney...
