  1. Still need to finish his base, but Baron Zemo is complete.

This one was a lot of fun, Zemo uses a color pallet that I don’t usually ever get to use in miniatures, certainly not all at the same time. Gold and yellow, purple and pink, grey and brown and black...

The sculpt is great too. Lots of little details, lots of interesting textures, and the pose is just great too. You can practically hear the miniature giving some villainous monologue or issuing a diabolical ultimatum.

For a guy whose “superpower” is having a pink balaclava permanently superglued to his face*, Baron Zemo has style.

    * No. I am not making that up.

  2. I think everyone in North America is feeling a bit more grumpy than normal these days. Cabin fever for many who are stuck at home, sheer overwork for those still working, financial worries for all of us, and so on and so forth. We might not mean to be grouchy towards each other, but everyone is a little on edge.

And, let’s face it, text isn’t the best medium for communicating nuance. It’s very easy for someone to type something they intend to be sarcasm or hyperbole, but for the person reading it to interpret it as an insult or an untruth.

We should all cut each other some slack.

Yes there are 31 factions listed. I have one army: Space Marines. My Team Captain has one army: Space Marines. And while I may be lucky enough to be able to afford buying the models for a new army, I don't have anything close to the time to paint a 2,000 point army. And what about all the theme teams that come every year?  They prepped all year to bring a theme.  To make such a drastic change with three months to go, I don't think is appropriate.

These sort of restrictions probably should have been announced further out. (Although, who knows if we’ll even be allowed to hold OFCC in this, the endless Year of Grandfather Nurgle.)

Organizers should probably also have considered being a bit more lenient on the restriction of the mega-popular vanilla Space Marine Faction since it’s codex is basically doing quintuple duty as codices for multiple different chapters...

But I think an immediate solution for this specific problem is to either assemble a new team or reorginizd one of your vanilla Space Marine armies to one of the other six non-vanilla factions of Space Marine.

  4. I've actually gotten great golds from Citadel Retributor Gold followed by a sepia wash, but I've mostly only use golds on my AoS Ironjawz or the occassional bit of bling for a D&D dwarf hero, so I want my gold to have an aged, worn, and kind of dull appearance.

The Runefang Steel has been problematic because I'm using it for modern day, non-ruined urban scenic items -- manhole covers, steel beams, and HVAC vents -- and the paint in the pot seems to have really separated. I've shaken the bejeezus out of it (even added 00 buckshot pellet as an aggitator) and it still seems to be a thick goopy melange with too much paint or a thin watery slush without any pigment.

  5. This Week’s Goals: Doc Ock and the Daily Bugle newsstand.

Stretch Goal: Speed Paint the MCP Dumpsters.

Spent most of this morning working on the Daily Bugle newsstand. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m doing wrong or a problem with the paint, but I’m finding the Citadel Runefang Steel layer paint to be an absolute chore to work with... Anyone have suggestions for an alternative?

Yeah, I know, terrain was last weeks challenge. But I’m being a rebel, whatcha gonna do to stop me? You “non-essentials” can’t even leave your house! Muh-hahahaha!

  6. From the Book of Face:

What’s in a bottle? Well, for 13-years we’ve filled these bottles with our high-quality Warpaints and we are privileged to play such an important role in your hobby. For the first time ever, these bottles will be put to use for a different reason. The world has changed a lot in these last few weeks. While the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to rethink the ways we operate, it has also called us to act. Very soon, we will be stripping the lines of our paint production machines in preparation for their next mission. When clean hands can literally save lives, there is an international hand sanitizer shortage.

The Army Painter has secured approval and the materials to begin the production of hand sanitizer. We will begin filling our 18ml and 100ml bottles with sanitizer which meets the World Health Organizations standards to fight and kill 99.9% of harmful germs and bacteria.

Our first order of business is to deliver hand sanitizer, at no cost, to local schools so that when the world returns to its new normal, our children have the rites and access to a clean and healthy learning environment. Our next challenge will be to supply the international distribution chains with these bottles in an affordable, and accessible manner.

This evolving new reality will affect our business greatly however this is not a matter of choice for The Army Painter, our owner Bo, or our team. This is our obligation. We have the means to help - therefore we must.

Stay tuned for more developments. Until then, happy hobbying!

  7. I never cease to be impressed by your ability to make the tinniest of tweaks and change a miniature from average to outstanding. You’ve got a great eye for these details and excellent sculpting skills.

I’m a big believer in the “less is more” school of aesthetics and you always add just enough without going over the top.

  8. North Star Figures has announced that they are releasing Oathmark: Battles of the Lost Age ahead of schedule. They are worried that if the U.K. government might force them into a total shut them, due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. So rather than sit on their hands for months, they've decided to get the product out early before. Oathmark is a fantasy, massed battle, "rank-n-flank" game in the vein of Warhammer Fantasy BattlesThe Ninth Age, or Saga: Age of Magic. But I think it offers a simplicity that WHFB and T9A are lacking.

I've been watching this games development with eager anticipation for a while now. Joseph A. McCullough is the guy that created Frostgrave and he's been wiring a design blog over at Osprey Publishing where he's talked about his design goals, the very clever combat system, and the really innovative kingdom creation system
