Math guy needed to explain VAT tax

As far as you, the final customer, are concerned, it's basically just Sales Tax, but instead of being based on the full value of the product, it's only based on the retailer's markup. If the company you're buying from is also the manufacturer, it's just Sales Tax.

Thank you very much.

most EU places wont subtract it (FW for example) it is built in to the cost.
In the UK the only way to get it back is to have the product, and documentation, in hand at the airport.

It is pretty much the same for me. I buy stuff in the USA, pay your sales taxes, and when I cross the border (and exceeding my limit  - C$550 Battlefoam order last week) I pay Canadian sales taxeS on top.

Also Pax, most, if not all items (even intellectual property like downloaded games), for sale by a retailer in the EU will be VAT inclusive. To that point, SoW's suggestion will typically not be honored unless your purchase enough to qualify for exemption, like Doc's example, but it definitely can't hurt to try. :)
