Has anyone purchased a "Start Collecting" box yet?

Why only the metal ones? Looks? Cheaper?

Sort of a habit I got into after re-painting my 40k army a few times in a short period. Metal models strip better. That made me look at the old metal lines more, and I fell in love with them. Just some really great old models out there.

As for costs, they end up being about the same in most areas. The main challenge is if I want to field metal models with new options. For example, all the old metal plague monks come with the staff+blade option, none with the paired blades. So, if I go with metals it's either a big conversion project or I'm stuck with certain options. Some of the bigger models also require more work just to assemble (Lord of change, I'm looking at you...).

I'm not going the pestilence route at all. Never really like them. I'm working on a balanced list for all situations. I don't like the idea of building lists for specific matches. No matter how I make one the model count is going to be high lol

Skaven have options if you want a low model count army, too. Mind you, still expensive as heck, but those Stormfiends would allow for an easy, elite army of skaven. It would be pretty easy to make it balanced, too, since that unit has so many options.

As for designing for specific matches vs random ones, it's a matter of fluff. In the medieval world, people raise an army usually for a purpose. Raising an army was an involved process. There weren't very many standing armies. Tailoring an army for a particular battle (or another event) is very fluffy. Even units/trained, like warmachines, were often built with a specific battle in mind.

As opposed to 40k space marines, which are a dedicated fighting force without a country to govern. An all-comer's army is totally fluffy for many chapters because the space marines would actually bring the same army composition to every battle. They specialist in weapons which can be brought to a multitude of battles across any terrain, and even in space.

In terms of how good the models are "in game" which box set is better to get the Nurgle one or the Khorne one. I would like the ability to use them in WH40k or AoS. I want to start a demon army and I really like both kits just not sure which one to start with.

Both boxes are pretty much on par with each other in terms of AoS effectiveness...not sure on the 40k end of things though as I don't play Demons.

I purchased the Khorne starter to supplement my Bloodbound forces and so far have only used the Skull canon,,it hasn't disappointed but also hasn't really done much either, heh.

I went ahead and got the Start collecting Nurgle box, I am heading down the road to having a Demon army for AoS or 40k.

Do you think I would have a decent army if I eventually picked up the Start collecting Khorne box or would I still not have enough models for a normal size game?

Between the two boxes, yes you would be entering average game size:)

Now another way to go would be to pickup the bloodbound half of the AoS starter set, that comes with 29 models and would give a rather solid mid sized army of Chaos. You can find these usually for around 45-55.00 online including shipping:)

Of course the Bloodbound wouldn't work in 40k though,,if you were wanting multiuse models.

Though it seems Khorne Demons have the most in the way of models that can work both with 40k and Fantasy.

Yah I really like a lot of the AoS only models, but I think I really want a dual purpose army. I think Khorne has got to be the most popular chaos army followed by Nurgle there is a ton of Khorne stuff for both 40k and AoS. Been thinking I may want to get some Flamers of Tzeentch as well. I hope they make some Starter Boxes for all of the armies/Chaos Gods at some point. With the releases thus far it kinda seems like the long term plan.

Any tips on which way I should build my plague drones? There are a few different options, it seems to me the venom sting is the way to go. But what about the other options, such as the plague banner or instrument of chaos etc. Keep in mind I want to use these in both AoS and 40k.

Thanks all
