barca
asked this in the BF forum, in Tactics section, but wondered what the locals think?
ZeroMoon17
Depends on the ARV, Bergepanther recovery vehicles give you a front armor 10 side armor 5 tank team, often with a hull MG. It can attach to normal panther platoons and take hits, all for 10-15pts, so for me it's an auto add. Other nations don't have as beefy of options and so I don't see them added nearly as often. They are very situational, and usually do not fulfill their original purpose (unbogging friendly tanks)
ZEKE
Oooh, I like the idea of attaching them to a platoon to take hits, never thought of that. Thanks for the tip, it'll go well with Jumbos. Once you do get past a jumbo, the only thing you kill is an ARV.
Josh
You can use Gun Tank to distinguish between the Bergepanther and another Panther, or any other ARV and it's corresponding tank platoon. An ARV would be useful for a Jumbo though, if you need to cross terrain.
ZeroMoon17
True, but it's 5+ to use the gun tank rule.
Noland
I thought gun tank was 4+?
Noland
Love the idea of a tank shield all the same for 10 points....Einenstine work there
taran.shannara
page 96. Gun Tanks section... 5+ I thought gun tank was 4+?
Josh
It's a 4+ to determine if you hit the hull or turret when there are facing issues. A 5+ gun tank roll is always worth it, it's free, doesn't cost you anything.
ZEKE
I am so going to retool my american tanks. One platoon will have, with all its attachments: Jumbo Jumbo (2ic) m4 76mm m4 76mm m4 76mm (cic) m4 76mm (abrams) m4 m4 ARV (hq attachment) Would take a lot of work to knock out those 76mm with shots first going to Jumbo, then ARV, then m4, then finally 76mm. I know, I know flank them, gun tank them, etc etc.. but then there is the "where I place them", good US armor players would know how to make thing work, etc etc...you still have to succeed in all that and it will still take a lot of work, or extremely lucky. ZEKE
just don't ask me how many points that is.
ZeroMoon17
Just make sure you are taking 76mm Jumbos so your normal 76mms don't get guntanked. With the 75mm Jumbos they can gun-tank your 76mm Shermans just like a normal mixed platoon.
xipetotec
ARV's are transport teams. If you're targeting tanks they will be assigned hits only after all the tanks have been assigned hits.
barca
The listing for ARV's in the Arsenal section of the handbooks is inconsistent. LFTF does not address ARVs In the Axis handbooks, there is a separate section "Recovery Vehicles", does not indicate transport or not. In the Allied handbooks, the ARV's are listed under "Transports" BTW: Very few ARVs have hull-mtd vehicle MG
xipetotec
They are transport teams: Grey Wolf 194: they're under the very large heading for "Transport Teams" Same for Atlantik Wall Same for Bridge by Bridge Also page 11 of the rule book: Supply, pioneer, and demolition carriers, and recovery vehicles are also transport teams
barca
Thx. RB index was deficient (again). Only listed p.
