What are your Ideas for trying out and playing FoW v4?

Speaking strictly for myself , and trying to guide RCDD (Rose City Dukes and Duchesses), I think a slow roll out is fine.

Since the PDX guys make an effort to support our FLGS - GG - our purchase and use will probably follow the local supply chain.

I expect we will get the books end of March, to early April. Same with the first kits,

So far, plans for FoW at ENFILADE (SAT of Memorial Day Weekend, 27 MAY) are to use LW version THREE rules and lists.

The first local tournament using FoW v4 rules will be at Ordo Fanaticus Club Challenge (OFCC) July 28th

Given those events, here is my basic overview of the FoW and Team-Yankee schedule for March-July

MARCH:

  • Team Yankee Escalation League
  • some casual FoW v3

APRIL:

  • Team Yankee Escalation League
  • FoW v3 practice LW for ENFILADE!
  • demo's and tryouts of FoW v4

MAY:

  • Team Yankee Escalation League
  • FoW v3 practice LW for ENFILADE!
  • demo's and tryouts of FoW v4
  • FoW tournament at ENFILADE! using v3 and LW

JUNE:

  • Team Yankee Escalation League
  • FoW ver FOUR practice MW for OFCC
  • some casual FoW v3 ?

JULY:

  • Team Yankee Escalation League
  • FoW v FOUR practice MW for OFCC
  • some casual FoW v3 ?
  • FoW tournament at OFCC using ver FOUR and MW

  • 2 weeks later...

If u want to read ahead and discuss some MW desert attractions for the second half of 2017, I am thinking about one or two mini-campaigns or Firestorms. If no one else in the community has created either of these, then I will throw something together...

Themes being considered:

  • The Battle of Gazala (26 May – 21 June 1942) and German "Operation Venezia"
  • The Battle of Alam El Halfa (30 August – 5 September 1942)

Gazala lines up nicely with the MW starter boxes:

  • British: Crusader II, Grants and 6pdr AT Gun
  • German: Panzer III-J, Panzer III-L, Panzer IV-F2, 8.8 cm Flak 41

Alam El Halfa is billed as "Rommel's Last Offensive"

  • equipment same as Gazala

Of course, the earlier tanks were also present: Italians, Honey Stuarts, Valentines, etc.

There is also this battle between Gazala and Alam El Halfa:

Battle of Mersa Matruh was fought from 26 June to 29 June 1942

Note that British Sherman tanks did not appear until later:

"...The Sherman first saw combat at the Second Battle of El Alamein in October 1942 with the British 8th Army..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Sherman
