  1. Page 12, who knew we would get this far This page update is important, and you can expect it to be communicated broadly as we get closer to the event. Over the years, I know I have personally been pretty lax in enforcing the painting standards in our 40K event. It was not difficult last year to walk through the venue to see a few models or even a squad or two below the event minimum. I think this is a slippery slope and needs to be corrected before it gets worse. For this years 40K OFCC, the Painting requirements will be strictly enforced and models not meeting the minimums cannot be fielded. Captain's will be responsible for checking all armies on their team prior to the event. If you think you will have players struggling to meet these minimums, then please leverage the community for last minute painting on Friday night or borrowing models that meet the requirements.
  2. Fair question, and at this point I do not have an answer. There will be a date prior to the event where we lock out all future updates, but that date has not been determined yet. You can expect advance warning of that date, but it will not be spoiled as one of the page reveals. (damn, I should I used THAT fact as the next reveal...wasted opportunity!) :)
  3. Looks like I should jump in before we leave page 11 :) For this spoiler, we will expand on our page 10 item to add that all Games Workshop and Forgeworld models that have rules for 8th edition will be allowed at OFCC.
  4. Page 10 update under the wire! :) Since I made you wait, let's make it a good one.... This year, we will be using battle-forged armies with a max of 3 detachments...get to building!
  5. Okay, before we leave page 9, I should get to the spoiling. :) Since today is Superbowl Sunday, I am in sports mood. Not being a sports guy (or really a football guy) page 9 makes me think 9th inning, so it is time for some inside baseball (to coin a phrase.) After analyzing team scores last year and how they contributed to the best overall, I was unhappy with the contribution ratio and felt it was too focused on Sportsmanship. Now, I know that may sound shocking coming from me as I hope that I am known as a Sportsmanship fanboy. I just think that it needs to be a more balanced approach to calculating something like Best Overall. Let me show you what I mean: 2017 OFCC Team Results: If you average 2017 results across the board, it breaks down like this: 54% Sports, 22% Painting, and 24% Spirit It is clear to me there is room for improvement, and a need for a change. So finally, the Page 9 spoiler is that the Best Overall will be calculated from 40% Sports, 25% Painting, 30% Spirit, and 5% Captain Achievements
  6. With us reaching Page 8, I turn to the Magic 8 Ball for this next tidbit. "Oh Magic 8 Ball, will the OFCC be an ITC event or use ITC rules?" Now don't get me wrong, I am HUGE fan of Reece, Frankie and everyone else associated with Frontline/ITC/LVO etc. I think they have been an immensely positive force on the gaming community and I would be happy to advocate for them every opportunity I could. I would really have a hard time running out of nice things to say, but that is not the purpose of this thread. :) Unfortunately, in my opinion the ITC approach to 40K does not align well to the OFCC approach to 40K. That is why OFCC will not use ITC rules.
  7. Well, if replacement is not an option there are other ways of upgrading. :)
  8. Some of you may know that Nurgle is my favorite Chaos god, so I consider 7 to be sacred number. As such, the reveal for Page 7 should be significant. Army size this year will be 2000 points!
  9. With that, it looks like we have reached page 6! It will come as no surprise that once again achievements can be earned by players and will contribute to a team's Spirit score. The Page 6 spoiler is that we will have a special list of achievements available only to Team Captains which will carry with it special recognition. Team Captains are asked to do quite a bit and are critical to the success of OFCC, it is time to acknowledge and celebrate their contribution.
  10. Another day, another page :) Even though this next spoiler is related to the last one, it has never been done in the history of the 40K Team Event (as far I can remember) :) Hold on.... Are you ready? There will be more than one Challenge Round!!!
  11. Let me jump in here to clarify :) OFCC is not an invitation only event. We do have a team approval process, but that is only to ensure that new teams understand the how this event differs from a normal tournament. We really do go out of our way to refer to OFCC as an event rather than a tournament. It is a celebration of the hobby we love and is all about having 5 great games over the course of the weekend. We fully embrace soft scores and feel that good sportsmanship is not a goal, but a requirement for participation. Because we focus on all aspects of this hobby, our events require fully painted models. You are welcome to meet the minimum, but we love to recognize the teams and individuals that go well beyond that with their skill and creativity. In the 40K team event, we offer no prizes for performance and instead acknowledge achievement with awards. This approach further supports the core values of the event and the club. The OFCC has always stood apart as an event unlike any other. Our approach may not be for everyone, but that does not mean we don't want it to be. :)
  12. Just got back from dinner to find us knee deep in page 4 :) I am excited to see the good faith effort to keep this as a discussion and not just a way to run up the post count. To reward that honorable behavior, allow me to share an exciting bit of news: Team versus Team Challenges are returning this year to 40K! Take control over your destiny, settle that grudge match once and for all, and reforge bonds in the crucible of battle!
  13. Woohoo! Page 3! Time for another detail, sorry this one is not huge blockbuster but it is a detail none the less. Another return of a fan favorite, Captain Pairings are back this year. The goal is always to make sure your team members have fun all weekend and pair up well with their opponents.
  14. Would you look at that, we made it to Page 2!!! Time for another spoiler :) Team Sizes will be set at 4 Person Teams (like previous years). Also, like previous years I expect a few teams to be looking for players and few Merc teams to form for people new to OFCC.
  15. Woohoo! The announcement has been made, I will be your 40K OFCC Team Event Head of Gaming once again this year! (http://www.ordofanaticus.com/topic/209719-ordo-fanaticus-club-challenge-2018-event-and-hog-announcement/) This thread is to start the conversation and get people excited about this year's OFCC and how awesome it will be to play under a single rule set. :) (quick note for those who did not know, we juggled both 7th and 8th edition last year.) This thread is just for the discussion and you can expect to see an alternate post which will contain all of the event details once they have been fleshed out. The good news is that much of the work has been done and I am excited to share it with you. That being said, I think a healthy discussion can excite people and help shape the finer points to make this a truly awesome event. Now, in order to keep the conversation moving I would like to provide a bit of an incentive. For every page of comments that this thread reaches, I will reveal a new detail about the event in advance of the full event posting thread. (Update: After 15 pages, details were no longer being added to this thread.) In order to keep the details from getting lost in the thread, as I add them I will also update this first post. Since this post technically is the start of the first page of comments, I owe you a detail (and lets make it a big one). :) 40K OFCC Team Event - Sneak Peek Page 1 Detail: Match ups will be Team vs. Team Page 2 Detail: Team Sizes will be set at 4 Person Teams (like previous years). Page 15 Detail: Teams will be able to challenge opponents for all three games played on Saturday. Matches will be paired randomly on Sunday. Here are the rules: Challenges are options, and not required for play on Saturday All challenge matches must be prearranged by 8/1/2018 Both Captains must agree to the challenge match Only fully paid teams are qualified to arrange challenge matches After 8/1, challenge matches cannot be changed The process for submitting challenge matches will be outlined in the Players Guide. Between challenge matches and captain's pairing, players have never had a better chance to have an unforgettable OFCC experience. Bonus Detail: There will be a special award for the first fully paid team! Now get that conversation going and prepare yourself for more details to come :)
  16. I will be skipping tonight so I can fire up the CNC to carve some last minute gifts (as opposed to doing some last minute shopping.) :)
  17. Updates to the Tyranids lot! Before I walk down the path of parting out the army, I thought I would try and bolster the offer to see if I can move it in one lot. So I went back to hobby room and grabbed the Tyranid Bitz box. Included in the lot now are an additional 20 Gargolyes (some are missing gun arms, but I should have the bitz to make them whole - no flying stands) and an additional 15 Termagants. Also included are all of the Tyranid bitz. I have taken pictures of the sprues and the loose bitz and added them to the gallery for review. Those extra model and crap basket of bitz would then be added to the original list of: 1 Barbed Heirodule2 Mawloc4 Carnifex4 Hive Tyrant1 Hive Crone1 Tyrannofex3 Zoanthropes1 Venomthropes1 Lictor57 Termagant 18 Genestealer3 Hive Guard1 Broodlord3 Warriors6 Old Warriors (5 pictured)10 Old Rippers All for the same $500 Short of throwing in a 6-pack and a handie (which is NOT an option), I think I would be hard pressed to make this a better deal. :)
