I think the game is more interesting and tactical with a smaller board, so my home set up will be using it. I hope OFCC uses the minimum sized board too. Larger boards will encourage a gunline or airforce style of play. None of that will bother me, since I don't care if I win. I just want a fun game.

Also... How about those Eradicators? Damn!

2 New 40k Indomitus Datasheet Rules: Eradicators & Cryptothralls ...

smaller boards dont add options.  they just make melee good

Yeah but it will be the new standard. Any store wanting to run ITC events will be changing their mats. They don't have to, but they will.

I think the 2 other hard counters they put on large blobs will be sufficient.

Large blobs were already more vulnerable to Ld issues than small squads in 8th. Now they're even more vulnerable than they were AND blasts will hurt them harder. Now they have more strict coherency rules too (and extremely punitive consequences for placement mistakes).

How many reasons do we need not to take large troops squads? I seriously cannot fathom writing a list for 9th that would contain more than 30 troops models, there's just too many reasons not to. I LOVED running blobs of wyches out of a Webway portal back in 5th, but they'll just be squads of 5, because having more makes them harder to use and easier to kill per model.

The only chance blobs have, I believe, is if troops are the only thing that can score (with maybe some mission-specific exceptions). Otherwise, MSU will be the objectively correct choice in most cases.

um...  I mean I am sort of ambivalent.  There arent many instances you have larger than 30.  Orks is the only one I can think of that can get to.40.  But MSU was kind of a thing 5th-7th.  even somewhat in 8th.  so.  i dunno if this is THAT big a deal.  Could even help certain armies.  my orks can really explode if I lose more than 13 orks.  if I lose 17, and I will,  this might be less punitive!

  3. So.  The Sisters of Battle, which as you all know are the consistently most awesome and inarguably righte and good choice, as far as armies go, have once again been chosen to deliver unto you the Imperial Truth in this article.

    And you're welcome.

  4. No one is "forgetting" anything.   Change comes hard for most players and gamers are some of the worst when it comes to it so they are giving you bite sized chunks to mull over, knowing that if they dumped it all at once it would meet coodinated resistence and so they are splitting up th news into parcels we can slowlt start to assimilate

But they don't get representation at the Ambassador?

Sorry the initial joke flew over your head J. 🙂  That's all it was, me bitching about Knights and your event using mexicaninja as a launch pad lol

I must say, I need to file a complaint with the senate at the lack of representation of Knights at OFCC2020. Quite disappointing.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh.  The Ambassadorial Grand Tournament?  See what you did there.  Allow me to retort!

We only worry about the opinions of people who go.  If any of the attendees had complained, it might be a debate?  😃

Kinda like people who live in Paraguay who don't like Americans.  I mean:  who cares.  Lol.  We're still having a good time, whether the people in Paraguay are or not.  But it's just a plane ticket away to join the fun for a couple days...  but America isn't for everyone.  Tis true.  Tis true.  I accept that.

So get that ticket next time. Its oh so much fun and the prize support is just so enormous for a GT.  My guess, as it has been every year:, is that you own other armies.  Maybe I'm wrong.  I don't think I am.  See you there!

Or they could just leave the tables at the standard 6’ x 4’ that they already are and that we’ve all been using for 33+ gorram years.

Why does no one seem to grok the idea of a suggested minimum size!?

If only you could beleive that TO's or shop owners would go that direction.

If I read things right, most armies will be getting more CP with the new system, so spending a few to get a 'recreational' additional detachment is net zero CP cost relative to the current edition. Maybe even a bump if one is frugal 😉

    yeah that is totes possible.

Embrace change!? What are you some sort of Tzeentch cultist?

Some have definitely suggested that I am the worst.  Tis true.  😞 But Tzeentch cultist?  I'd take that over what some people have said!  Lol

All I'm saying is that this train has never been about 3e.  4e.  5e.  6e.  7e.  None of it.  Change has never stopped and it won't.   So embrace this and profit.

  9. People seem to hate change.  Its a super weird phenomenon but damn do people hate it!  Lol.  I still hear people bitching that its not like it was in 2e (looking at you Matt D).

Some stuff will change.  everyone will figure it out.  some stuff will get rage shelved.  Some will get reasonably shelved...and other things you already own will be dusted off.  a few new models will probably get bought.

The very nature of a hobby.

Hallelujah. The most recent preview has hinted at something I’ve been wishing for... I doubt we’ll see a return to 300+ Points Tactical Squads (a la Second Edition) but it’s a smart move.

I'd be fine with higher points but what we saw at the VERY beginning of 8e were incredibly high points for units that eventually were forced down by the need for more GRANULARITY.  It wasn't that the smaller model count was an isue.  it wasnt.  It was the differentiation in true power that got lost.  Something to consider.

They’re saying that Crusade is compatible with Matched Play. That’s the thing I feel like tournament players will hate.

Probably just means you can use PL or points in it, your choice?  Or maybe there is a scoring system for it thatbyou can ALSO use for tournaments?  so like maybe two modes you could do a tourny on? We'll know soon enough.  The ITC has said they will likely be using book missions for a while after the 9th drops, to give them time to adjust where necessary, if at all, for competitive play, interestingly.

This Crusade format sounds fantastic to me, but I predict the “tournaments über alles” crowd will hate it.

mmm.  Nah.  I think a lot of us tournament guys started as and remain D&D players!  We might practice a lot, but hating rules just because we dont get to do it a lot is probably not happening.  Not enough to worry about.  I for one like the Maelstrom missions the best but rarely play it.  Crusade might end up the same way.  But I know ill try it.

  13. 1500 was a pretty decent points limit and it was what I was "brought up" playing.  I have even run a couple 1500 point events in semi-erecent memory.  I don't find it any less interesting.  That is mostly a meta thing.  I dont want to play at higher than 2K.  But I'd certainly be fine w 1500.
