  1. Are you going to be at Guardian this Friday? I'll be there for PFS. (edit) Woops. No I won't, looks like PFS is cancelled this week for Gamestorm.
  2. I fear we're going to take a couple weeks off, Pat's on his way to England for a vacation. What did you find?
  3. How about Guardian Games at 7:00pm on Monday the 5th?
  4. I am! What side of town are you on? Closer to Guardian Games or Rainy Day?
  5. It is closet cleaning time and I have about 60 unpainted orc boyz I want to get rid of. They're about 15 Arrow Boyz, 35 regular boyz, and 10 unassembled plastic black orcs. Anyone play orcs? Anyone want more boyz? Free to a good home. Just let me know and we can meet up somewhere local and I'll hand them over. edit: Also have an assembled but unpainted boar chariot.
  6. I love this game. I'm always up for a game. I don't visit this forum very often so the best way to reach me is to send me some email at stephen.gingell@gmail.com and we can meet up somewhere. I'm in Aloha but I'm happy to travel within reason. I've got bits of all sorts of things but mostly Gondor, Mordor, and Moria. - Stephen
  7. No problem, it's been a while since we planned it so I thought I'd check if anything changed. We can try again some other time.
  8. Just wanted to make sure we were still on for tomorrow at Guardian at 5pm. : )
  9. I've got an unpainted Chaos army and a painted Daemon army. How does 5pm at Guardian on the 29th sound?
  10. I stopped playing sometime during 8th edition, went back after a while and stopped again. I quite agree, 7th edition was my favorite (which is not to say it was perfect, I just liked it's problems more than I liked 8th's problems). I might be able to catch a game some Wednesday during the workday, what hours are you available?
  11. I'm not sure I see the point IP wise. Say I am a budding miniatures maker and I want to horn in on the WHFB player base. Maybe I make some nice character models (like Avatars of War did) or some cheaper trooper sprues (like Kings of War did) and try to sell them to gamers. Not being able to call my Avatars of War figure an Orruk doesn't seem like it should slow me down any. GW is still selling orcs, whatever they call them, and my third party "Orc Spearmen" can be used just as easily as GW's "Orruk Waaagh-Stabbers of Mount Wemadeitupandcopyrightedit".
  12. If you check the GW website you'll see the new names for all the races. Elves got an 'A' to become Aelfs. Beastmen stayed Beastmen. Daemons stayed Daemons. Dwarves became 'Duardin' Goblins became 'Grots' Ogres became 'Ogors' (which looks like it is pronounced 'Ogre', but whatever) Orcs became Orruks. Lizardmen of all kinds (Slaan, Saurus, and Skinks) all became 'Seraphon' Skaven stayed Skaven. Forest Spirits became 'Sylvaneth' Trolls became 'Trogoth' Vampires and Mummies stayed Vampires and Mummies. One suspects the hand of copyright lawyers at work, much like how almost all the most recent line of paints have GW specific proper names in them. Maybe they reckon von Carstein and Khemri are copyrightable enough to not change Vampires and Mummies, but keeping Daemons as Beastment as is seem the odd ones out.
  13. AoS reminds me a lot of Ravening Hordes, a quick and dirty "get you by" set of rules. That's fine if there is something more polished coming later, but what's the rush? Why not wait until it is finished to release the $125 box? Thats a lot of money for a new player to plunk down only to find GW has finished the miniatures but hasn't written rules yet.
  14. What a total disaster. Without composition rules the game isn't playable in anything like the way it has been. This only barely qualifies as a game at all.
  15. Do you think they've gotten to "blood skull reaper of bloody skulls" in vocab yet?
  16. I have to think the End Times won't last. It has to be replaced by a new core rulebook. Think about a new player now who wants to know the rules. Not even buy any models, just get the rules of the game. My understanding is that they are spread over the core book ($74), Nagash ($74), Gllotkin ($58), Khaine ($58), & Thanquol ($74), and the armybook of your choice ($49). The rules will cost you $387. The rules alone. That's madness. That's blasphemy. That's GW. If they insist the the End Times are the official rules of the game now and the rules are spread over $400 worth of books, I don't see who they think is going to start playing the game. I'm allready invested in fantasy and I'm not willing to pay for $250 worth of new rules. They have to consolidate the rules into one or two books. A big new book full of new and revised rules is 9th edition, I don't see how they can avoid it.
  17. Looks cool to me. I'm not sure why he's standing on his own weapon, but other than that he looks great.
  18. As much as I love my LotR figures, they really are too small to mesh with Warhammer.
  19. Yes! I'm a big fan, it's good fun. I ran a game based on a trading expansion with a site here: https://battlestations.obsidianportal.com/
  20. I think I prefer the second one, despite the appealing mono-god purity of the first (assuming you meant Lord of Change for the Greater Daemon). A big block of Bloodletters and a little unit of Flesh Hounds give your opponent something to fight in a way that the first list doesn't. Sure, they can kill lots of blocks of 10 Horrors but a majority of the points are tied up in flying and/or skirmishing units that might be frustrating to catch.
  21. It's a great catalogue, but they seem to have abandoned any pretense of being anything else. No FAQs, no army showcases, no tactics articles, no scenarios, etc...
  22. Seems fine to me. The Chariots, Knights, Chimera, and Skullcrushers are all very solid units, some of the best stuff in the book. The Warhounds are great for the cost. The Daemon Prince & Warriors aren't optimal, but they're both perfectly reasonable units. The Vortex Beast and Shrine are pretty weak. The beast because it is a pretty half hearted monster for the cost and its spell is pretty random. The Shrine because it only benefits a couple models and not in a predictable or controllable way. If you want to try them out, by all means they're good random fun. If you wanted to make the list harder you could swap them out. A level two sorcerer is fine, but why the power familiar? If his main job is magic defense he wants a Dispel Scroll, not an extra spell. The BSB is fine, but why the shield? He can't use it in close combat (he has to use the Halberd) and he's not likely to be shot sitting in an infantry block.
