I would absolutely love to jump in, but weekday nights are a no-go for me.
Anyone with Sunday availability?
I usually have Sunday availability, family allowing.
-
I want those zombie trolls.
-
I'll try to make it down.

I will not be able to make it this month, as I'll be attending a Warmachine tournament, but the tables are still reserved for anyone that wants to show up.
-
Oooooo a couple of us may come down with some bolt action armies if you guys are playing that? Where is the venue? Guardian?
The venue is Guardian, yes.
-
Officially 2, but there's usually someone there by noon.

Red Castle on Saturdays tends to be less crowded and a bit more casual, though you can still get in a competition-level game if you want. Just be up front on the kind of game you want and most of us will be happy to help out.

I suggest you snag the new Battletech Starter Set, plus 24 plastic 'mechs of various weight classes. BattleTech's a game where you're going to want more than one 'mech; most of the games I've been in you controlled one to four 'mechs, and often more. If you can, look for the newest edition of the starter set, as it's supposed to have much better quality miniatures in it.
After the starter set, you'll want... more 'mechs. And possibly vehicles, aerospace assets, infantry, and power armor. BattleTech releases the fluff and stats for these in sourcebooks called Technical Readouts, which are grouped by year; certain years are "eras". The classic (and only _true_) BattleTech era is the Fourth Succession War, which is covered, IIRC, by the 3039 tech readout. Guardian has a bunch of these, and you can flip through them and find the ones you like. Bear in mind that 'mechs from different eras do not mix terribly well, especially for newer players. The classic bad combination is 3050 Clan Omnimechs vs. vanilla 3025 Inner Sphere Battlemechs, which usually results in an extraordinarily one-sided game.
You might also want to pick up the associated record sheets for the Tech Readouts of your choice, as it'll save you a lot of time filling in little armor bubbles on a record sheet every time you want to play a game.
After poking around at the Tech Readouts, you may want to delve deeper into the rules. The Core rules are explained here, but the first one you should pick up is Total War.
As for the Great Turtle, that wiki page has a bibliography at the bottom, which tells you that the source of the mech is Technical Readout: 3055 upgrade, so that's the book you want for the Great Turtle's game stats.

Thx.
Looks like it will be worth my while to join HMGS.
If you're interested in historical gaming, definitely.

Undead, here.

So August is upon us. Anyone up for a game at Red Castle on Wednesday?
-
I've thought about it, but lead mountain has lead me to foreswear buying any new figures of any sort until I at least finish my 15mm ancients, Warmachine, Kings of War, and Saga stuff. (I'm sure I'll stick to it.)
As for 15mm, I'd do the following, as most of my 15mm is based on the WRG standard 40mm frontage:
Infantry troop: 40mm x 20mm (1 base)
Infantry regiment: 40mm x 40mm (2 bases)
Infantry horde: 80mm x 40mm (4 bases)
Cavalry troop: 40mm x 30mm (1 base)
Cavalry regiment: 40mm x 60mm (2 bases)
Or I'd stick with the standard unit sizes and just fill it up with huge amounts of 15mm figures for that big army look. A 100mm x 80mm block of 15mm orcs is going to look pretty impressive.
(God help me, I'm really looking hard at 6mm these days.)

I'm not sure they actually have a 40k night. I don't think it's on their calendar. Anyway, I'm down for Wednesdays startng in August sometime. They're going to be packed with magic kids though.

Five dedicated wargame tables at RC. Plus they have boards to go on the other tables.

I'm not going to organize this, but here's my input. The best bets venue-wise are probably Guardian and Red Castle.
Monday: GG Warmachine and X-Wing, RC Magic & Board Games.
Tuesday: GG Magic, RC Magic
Wednesday: GG 40k, RC Magic.
Thursday: GG Flames of War, RC Infinity & Netrunner
Friday: RC & GG: Friday Night Magic
So the open spots are probably Monday-Wednesday evenings at RC, or Tuesday / Thursday evenings at GG. (I don't know how busy FoW night gets, but it was pretty anemic last I looked.)
My vote is for Tuesdays at Red Castle or GG.

So many undead players! I may need to build my Basileans/Kingdoms of Men Crusaders after all, just for some variety.
I'm already thinking of how my peasant horde can translate... upon looking at it, one thing is clear: I need more Men at Arms and Bowmen for a 2k point KoW army!! 100 of each just isn't going to cut it :)
BroG, are the Horde formation units at 200x80 unwieldy in practice? I'd love to plop down 3 Hordes of Men at Arms, and 3 Hordes of Archers!Yep, they're a bit unwieldy. That's part of the drawback with 'em.

If we got historical rules and they were fun, I'd love to build a saracen army someday if the models were close to GW plastics quality. Their styling and composition are my absolute favorite historically, even moreso than knights of the crusade era. I know it's not likely, but one of these days maybe!
You could use Hail Caesar and these to start with.

Can't make it after all. :( Rijel, you want to try to arrange a game at Red Castle on Sunday?
